Minor characters and their story

I’ve been rereading many of the novels, and have been thinking about characters (minor and major) that were introduced in a piece of canon, that we never hear about again.
Examples include: Ignatio Delgado (Cole Protocol), Corporal Harland (The Fall of Reach), Forsell and Byrne (Contact Harvest), Colonel Holland (Reach) and many more.
These characters all play fairly large roles in whatever story they’re introduced in, and then are never heard from again. Given what they end up doing in their respective stories, I’m surprised that we never know what happens to them.
Do you guys think there should be more stories regarding these side characters, or are they ultimately irrelevant in your opinion?

I’d love to hear more about them. My guess is the reason we haven’t heard much more about Holland, for example, is that he’s associated with the game and that story has been told in-depth multiple times. Sure, there’s a lot more material they could potentially write about, but a lot of readers will always have that association. There’s no point retelling the Reach story and any other story might not be as interesting. So, a potential story about Holland is stuck in a bit of a Catch-22. Just speculating though and I would be thrilled if a great story about any of those characters was released.

You’re right, people do seem to like a bit of separation between the games and other material these days. I still find it odd though, that they haven’t released these kinds of stories. Mostly because of their connections to areas that haven’t been fully explored, like the Army, Prowler Corps, and even the Non-ODST marines. 343 has shown an interest in expanding little detailed areas in the past (Warfleet being a good example). Seems like a good way to continue doing it.

Yeah that’s true. There are a lot of people clamoring for a Reach remaster and/or Reach’s addition to MCC. So you never know, they might release a book, comic, or audio series like Hunt The Truth for one or multiple minor characters to expand the lore a bit.
