Mines of all kinds

So I have a debate topic…
With Izi getting her turret drop switched with mines I have been testing out leader power orders and mines are hard for me wrap my head around. Every leader has them, so my questions are…

  1. Are mines effective?

  2. If the answer is yes, how are people using them effectively?

This is not limited to just Izi. Please share experiences from all the leaders. Thanks!

Mines are the go to power for stopping a rush. They can utterly decimate a rushing army unless it’s Jackrabbits, because Jackrabbits can see through the cloak. Other than stopping a rush, they are useful for protecting your minibases and power nodes. They’re pretty cheap, so throw them down whenever possible. There’s always the chance that your opponent won’t make any detectors and his army will get destroyed lol.

Being that I consider my self an Izi main, I’m going to try this. I feel like she is pretty weak to the rush. Would you take mines over gen drones xBluNT CoMMaNDo?

I use shipmasters scout mine as much as possible. It only drops one, but it gives you sight to see what’s coming or what you’ve blown up. It also helps late game to set up a teleporter.

If I’m being rushed, then yes I’ll take mines 100% of the time over Restoration Drones. Heavy Metal for keeping your units alive and Lotus Mines for making the enemy army go boom lol. If I don’t get rushed then I usually forgo the mines until waaaaay later, after I’ve gotten all my other useful leader powers (The Best Offense, Mac Blast, Acc. Assembly, Ghost in the Machine, etc.) They’re decent mid-late game for map control, but they really shine early game because of the lack of detectors. Also, don’t try this in 1v1’s lol, Isabel is much more potent in team games

Mines are not worth the leader point, especially higher up on the ladder. The majority of rushers will have at least one detect unit supporting their army, which renders mines useless and a leader point wasted. The only rush they are viable against is the brute rush. Scouts have detect, and UNSC infantry spam is often accompanied by snipers. Overall, they simply aren’t useful against better players. The scout mine does have some utility for map awareness, though.

All in all, use the leader point somewhere else. Another leader power can almost always offer more utility in a game. If you need to rely on mines to stop a good rush, you have already lost.

Coming from champion league :). Best of luck out there!
