milking the series

Why do some people think Microsoft is milking the franchise. Halo is as big as Star Wars and Star Trek and Microsoft doesn’t even need Halo to make tons of money they don’t even need the X-Box Microsoft is a multibillion dollar company and Halo is a big franchise.

If the cow is still offering lots of sweet milk…

It’s not, call of duty is a milked series with a game each year thats basiclly a the same with a minor graphic update and a new story. Halo gives us new game modes and hing like forge on Halo 3 and Firefight on odst etc.

Halo is not milked. Between 2001 to the end of 2011, there would’ve been 7 Halo games (and that’s including the spinoff Halo Wars, Halo 3: ODST, which is arguably an expansion pack type game and Anniversary, which is a remake).

Between 2003 to the end of 2011, there’s been 16 Call of Duty games and from 2002 there’s been 11 Battlefield games (plus boosters).

For Playstation owners, who sometimes point the finger at Halo for milking, there’s going to be 5 Resistance games between 2006 to 2012 and 4 Motorstorm games from 2007 to 2011. So I’d say Halo is doing alright.

Halo is the equivelant to mario for MS, they will probably not EVER stop making it, but filling in the gaps here in there, like ODST and Halo Wars, and making up to halo 6.

Take a look at Nintendo(for an example)and you’ll see what games shows up every year…not to blame them, it’s the way they make money

Is Microsoft still milking the Halo cow? They certainly are. But why shouldn’t they? The cow’s still alive and kicking and providing delicious milk.

Keep milking! =)

I’m not sure if that’s the right comparison. It’s close… sorta, and I could see your reasoning and all, buuut…

That’s exactly what I was going to bring up. If it’s producing good milk, why stop milking?! The milk’s from a very healthy cow, in a probably rich mansion that has three farms in the backyards full of healthy animals.

CoD 1 (United Offensive was an expansion pack and Finest Hour basically the console version of CoD1. CoD Classic is a cheap arcade game of CoD1)
CoD 2 (Big Red One doesn’t count)
CoD 3 (Roads to Victory aka PSP’s CoD3)
CoD 4 MW (CoD4 Reflex aka Wii’s CoD4 and CoD4 DS)
CoD 5 WaW (WaW DS and WaW Final Fronts [map packed WaW])
CoD 6 MW2 (MW Mobilized aka CoD MW2 DS)
CoD 7 Blops (Blops DS)
CoD 8 MW3

CoD has 2 companies that work on the games and they have 1 more game than Halo. How can you possibly say their were 16 CoD games?

Do I think CoD is milked? Yes a little bit… But you have to milk something that is far from being dead. CoD is the most profitable game on consoles… You think they are just gonna say w/e were done?

Milking = making games when the series has effectively died to squeeze out more money.
I think it’s safe to say Halo isn’t dead.
Therefore, it’s not milking.
