Mike Colter isn't the voice of Locke anymore.

Frank O Conner confirmed that Mike Colter is no longer Spartan Locke and that now Ike Amadi is his new voice actor due to Mike Colter playing Luke Cage for a Marvel Series. Any thoughts on this?

From the voice work we’ve heard in Halo 5 and the Locke Trailer, I think it’s going to work out just fine.

I never personally had a problem with his voice in H2A, but a lot of people apparently did, so this might be a better decision anyway.

Thank god, Colter has a great look for Locke, but his voice acting was just…bad.

Firstly you will need a source, before attempting to override any pre-existing canon.

Secondly, Mike Colter is the animation actor and voice actor of Jameson Locke. He is featured in Halo:Nightfall and Halo 5: Gaurdians.

I feel bad for Mike. Based on his delivery in the Sprint, I actually preffered his delivery with Buck; it sounded genuine, and not like he was an action movie badass asserting his dominance. I think they should switch based on the scenario, something like the all hail commercial fits Ike better, but in conversation I approve of Mike. Is that realky the reason though? That’s lame if it’s true, who cares if he’s on the Marvel series, if he’s too busy then that was just a bad decision on 343s part.

It was confirmed on Neogaf by Frank and by his new voice actor. https://twitter.com/AfricanWrdsmith/status/611780535115866112

I wasn’t a huge fan of his VA work. I didn’t find it horrible though. Hes just a little rough around the edges. There is always room for improvement.

I wouldn’t mind that happening. I have seen that before with other Video Games/Anime/Movies. It could work. I don’t know the terms of his contract with 343 or with Marvel so I can’t really give my opinion on “why?” or “how?” Hopefully it will get cleared up sooner or later.

The Hell? How are they going to explain this in the lore?

It was a scheduling issue; thankfully 343i didn’t just leave him out to dry. He still seemed happy about doing the mo-cap in the Sprint footage though.

Well I imagine he loved doing it. Sometimes things just get in the way. Like you said thankfully 343i just didn’t ditch him. Considering if Locke is in Halo 6 I wonder how it would work. Just gotta see how it goes.

I think the reasoning Frankie listed for why isn’t accurate, as we all know Colter sucked at voice acting. It’s easy to chalk it up to “a scheduling issue”, as both parties probably saw that it really wasn’t working out.

I’m happy they made the change, though I am a little sad for Colter.

Do you have anything to support that, or are just wanting to doubt because the official reason?

No I have no support whatsoever for that claim. I just look at how Colter was all aboard the hype and marketing train during Nightfall and E3 last year, and now he’s completely absent. Seems a bit odd. Also notice how Colter was pretty involved in the community up until the MCC released last year with the anniversary prologue/epilogue cutscenes, and the community immediately vocalized its opinion on how terrible his voice acting was.

Since then, we haven’t heard or seen Colter since, except VERY briefly in the recent Sprint ViDoc.

Also, it wouldn’t be very kosher for 343 to come out and say “we only kept his likeness because we realized too late that he was miscast and sucked at voice acting, which is a major aspect of the job he was hired to perform.”

Um… what lore is there to explain, exactly? Lol

So do we have confirmation?

Straight to the comments, huh?

I actually liked his voice acting, he was getting better and he was immense in that trailer (assuming now of course that was actually him)

That wasn’t him in the trailer. The voice actor (Ike Amadi) that replaced him tweeted that he was Locke a few days ago, directly referencing that live action trailer.

I 100% trust Frankie, so if the reason for switching was scheduling with his Netflix show I feel much better.
