Last time I checked the Halo campaign was meant to be played by all players as well as multiplayer. Campaign has difficulty options…Multiplayer is chalked full of categorized playlists ranking all the way from Team Slayer down to MLG. The “MLG” playlist was supposed to divide casuals from competitive players. However, if casuals chose to play MLG there would be hell to pay due to the fact that they would either get killed much faster and be a nuisance to their fellow teammates or that they would purposefully betray their own teammates resulting to the steel toe.
My personal opinion would be that if competitive players want the MLG playlist they should buy it and also receive better servers with their purchase. MLG could include map packs as well as custom nameplates. Competitions could be assembled locally as well as nationally. Where winners would receive recognition and prizes based on their team work and skill. A series of challenges could be assembled by the competitive community which would determine what styles the players would have to adjust to to maintain their player status.
Lastly, I would like to see a Halo 4 MLG billboard to commemorate the victories for the top Halo 4 MLG players.
OH! And btw “M” “L” “G” if you forgot.
Why pay?
That would make the population too small.
I like to play MLG with my casual friends, trueskill takes care of us not getting destroyed every game.
lolol there is a thing called LAN. MLG players do that to scrim and get ready for tournaments. there is no need to charge. it would be pointless.
This is the kind of post that makes the community hate us.
Why should we make people pay extra to get the MLG playlist? Why not just make it ranked so everyone can enjoy competitive settings regardless of skill?
And while I think it would be cool for tournament winners to get custom nameplates etc., I worry about alienating the rest of the community.
That would be ridiculous to make everyone pay to use the MLG playlist. Online tournaments can be held through gamebattles. I don’t believe that I should have to pay extra to play a gametype that has been free for years, and is my favorite.

A pay should benefit. What’s the reward?
step 2 ?
step 3 profit incentivize in the real world
Yes, because the only difference between “casuals” and “pro” players is playing MLG…
> Yes, because the only difference between “casuals” and “pro” players is playing MLG…
well, considering it is basically the only PROfessional gaming league, yes…yes it is.
just because you hit a lot of homeruns in little league doesn’t mean you are pro.
Know what dude? Last time I checked, MLG as a company doesn’t support 343 financially anywhere near as good as the community/casual gamer.
So why should they even bother putting your precious MLG in there?
And before you ask why I’m being so hostile to MLG people in general, ask the OP. He’s the one giving you a bad name.
Ok if this is true then MLG should not be considered competitive, but instead casual. Because from the posts I have read MLG is comprised of Casuals and Competitive players alike. Therefore it is just team slayer with different settings.
Why would you want to hinder competitive play more? We need to get people back into it and get more newer players into it, that won’t happen if you need to pay to even play the playlist.

no. just no.
MLG is competitive.
the only reason casuals go into it is because 1. they don’t know what it is…or 2. they want to get better at the game they are playing.
MLG is too competitive and stressful for a normal casual player to be bothered with. it requires total map knowledge, fantastic teamwork and stellar gunplay and communication.
it should never be considered casual.

Unfortunately my first taste of MLG was ultimately my last. Due to Halo: Reach’s horrible rank and search mechanics I ended up winning seven games in a row on MLG and I’m terrible at the game. If people who go into MLG are really that bad they should just drop MLG support completely.

honestly, in halo: reach…with its terrible matchmaking system, you will either get absolutely terrible people that don’t know what they are doing…or you will get a semi-pro team and get decimated. there just doesn’t seem to be a middle-ground.
if there is a 1-50 ranking system in 4…i would suggest you try again. it’s a fantastic way to quickly get a lot better at many aspects of the game.
i would even be down for some scrimming. gotta get a team together soon for some awesome halo 4 times.

You still play casuals whether they drop in to get killed constantly and make you lose or to blow your head off for no reason. MLG is not competitive because if you lose even if your teammates are casual then you are casual. Because that is your team. MLG is team oriented not solo based. You play casuals the playlist is casual.

which is what happens when there isn’t a decent ranking system. trueskill was epically flawed, which caused those types of matches to occur on a regular basis. go into MLG alone, get paired with 3 randoms…go against a To4. there needs to be an actual ranking system.
also, it isn’t just the players that you play with that makes it casual or competitive, because no matter what playlist it is casuals will at some point go into it…it is also how it is set up, what types of changes are made to enforce balance. hell, casuals show up to MLG events and attempt to compete. do they make it far? no. does that make MLG casual? hell no.

maybe hitting a lot of home runs in little league doesn’t make me a pro, but being the worst player in the big leagues doesn’t make me a pro. And that’s a terrible analogy anyways. Little league is competitive, regardless of the skill. so, only casual backyard baseball would be equivalent to casual gaming.
And on topic, paying for MLG would be pointless, and stupid. Kids living in their parents wallets’ would still be in MLG, just to try to get on the leaderboards.

yes, you are right, paying for mlg would be pointless.
and my apologies, it’s almost 2 in the morning and i am tired. what i mean to say is that just because you are competitive, doesn’t make you pro.
i have no problem with people who are competitive, hell i encourage it. it is fun. i do have a problem with people assuming they are pro, just because they play competitively. that is where the distinction between little league and Professional baseball comes in.
the only way to make MLG work for everyone that wants to play it, really, is to have a solid ranking system that separates the experienced from the inexperienced and brings closely skilled teams together to play.
there will always be people that say they are pro, just because they play MLG. that is a misrepresentation of what they are though. they are, more than likely, competitive…not pro. that is the point that i am trying to make…and now i am rambling xD

MLG is competitive due to its settings. Has nothing to do with what “type” of person searches in it.
Its still “social” within Reach due to the fact that it has no ranking system.

More competitivew settings.
