Midnight Release

Do you all think that in the tradition of some Bungie’s midnight Halo releases will Halo Infinite get a midnight release? Do you think places like Gamestop, Best Buy, Target, etc, will do something similar? Or do you think 343 will go a more direct delivery route? Ultimately, in what manner do you think the game will be rolled out?

Midnight seems like a good idea so that those who are really devoted to halo can go play at midnight and the severs will get flooded in the evening after people get back from work.

Players will most likely buy it in the marketplace or gamepass. It’s not like 2007 where hard copy was the only way to buy your game.

True. Here’s the thing: Is it safe to assume that the first day Halo Infinite launches millions of people will be on the servers playing due to the simple fact that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer will be free to play?

It depends how Xbox chooses to roll it out. I imagine a 9 PM PST release is realistic.

That’s quite possible. Times have changed in that regard. Also, it seems 343 along with Microsoft are pushing Halo Infinite’s presence on gamepass so that’s no surprise.

Yes I agree to certain point. I just hope the game has dedicated servers and that there is not any crashing going on.

They are going to crash regardless. Networking can only do so much to prevent overloads.

True but the fact that Halo is being talked again in positive light is bizarre and amazing all at once. 343 cannot squander the momentum they earned off that 343 multiplayer reveal.

They don’t have a choice in the matter. Do you think any developer wants to get bad PR over server crashes they can only do so much to prevent?

I’ve never really done a midnight release, but it sounds fun. Only digital tho. Never was really down for the physical copy midnight release, although I was too young to do that for halo 3 and reach so yeah. I doubt they would do that today though for a single game at least. Especially when everything is digital now.

Honestly, considering how absolutely pumped I am for this, I would have no problem sitting in line with friends waiting for a midnight release. Even if it only means I get a card with a steam code on it. However, that has yet to be seen… Maybe they’d include a poster or something? It would make it more worth it to wait outside for it instead of just preorder online…

As much as I liked midnight releases, it was a bit of a pain. Can’t beat digital preloading and just hitting PLAY at midnight with a beer.

Same. I’m sure there will be midnight releases, but I’ll have it pre installed with Game Pass ready to go. If you buy the disc at midnight and have crappy internet it could be a day longer before you play.

Definitely, there will be a day 1 patch without a doubt.

Games usually release digitally at midnight local time. There are some exceptions to that at times. It generally helps roll players onto servers at a steady rate instead of one giant tsunami wave of people logging in at once which would likely cause some downtime or server queues. Look at any Destiny DLC launch haha. With the game going Free To Play I can imagine the first day or so of launch could be fairly busy.

As for physical release parties at stores and what not. I’m going to probably say no. You’ll probably have people outside of stores at midnight but I can’t imagine it being like the days of Halo 2 & 3. Mainly because physical games don’t sell as much as they did in the past and safety precautions and regulations probably need to be followed.
