Mid-season "update"

More like mid-season patch

This is literally just a hotfix/patch, it is nowhere near a mid-season update.
Why is 343 so incompetent?

Most updates in games are patches. It was also implied when first mentioned that this update would bring fixes to a wide range of issues.

I’d love them to drop a new map with this, but I don’t think we will get a new map until Season 2 maybe. That would be a shame as that’s still 3 months away.

I’m not bored right now, I don’t need a new map, I just want one.

I wasn’t very hopeful for new content with the mid-season update. Don’t get me wrong, I would’ve loved to have seen it but the writing is on the wall that they just don’t have anything ready. All you need to do is look at the roadmap delay. They initially said the roadmap would be coming in January and at this point it’s far more likely we won’t be seeing it until at least march. If the roadmap is delayed by two months, that’s a pretty big indicator to me that they’re kind of scrambling to scrape together whatever they can right now.

Not mid-season ones for live-service games

Ske7ch also said that it would focus on many things that the community was giving feedback about (including customization) back when it was first announced and customization is nowhere to be seen

There just was a thread about this a moment ago.

Again - the 343 is now in damage control mode fixing what they can of the main issues the game currently has - desync, melee registration, cheating, ranked progression, BTB (which they did fix for most).

It is quite normal that they don’t want to put out a roadmap right now until they deal with most of the fixes. If they put out the roadmap now, they’ll create an expectation that they’ll follow it and make people angry if they have a delay because of bug hunting.

There is really no advantage for them in doing so. People angry that there’s no roadmap still are angry, but they don’t create another expectation that can backfire.

Have some patience, wait until they fix current bugs. Current updates or ā€˜updates’, or patches - whatever you want to call them - are centered around fixing things and sometimes adding some small thing community asked about that does take just flipping a few switches or adjusting numbers - like spawning of more tanks in btb.

They can’t even fix the armor FX until S2

It literally fixed nothing. Probably just a few edge case scenarios that not even 0.000001% of the population experience.

A mid season update is supposed to include multiple cosmetics, some free but it can be debated, new weapons and or equipments, new maps, AND fixes, NOT JUST FIXES THAT SHOULDVE BEEN IN THE GAME

While content would be nice. Making the game more functional for people to play is more important.

How did this update make the game more functional?
If anything, it’s made it worse for my gameplay

I’ve already given up my hope on any new content a few weeks ago. But let’s just put all the content thing aside - I thought to myself: ā€œFine, if nothing new gets added within !6 Months!, I hope that at least all the major issues get fixed before Season 2 arrives.ā€

Lets summarize it. The Game has launched barebones & still is in it’s current state. You would assume that some sort of progress had to be made after 3 and a half months on following topics:

  • Hit Registration
  • Desync
  • Cheating
  • Custom Games
  • Theatre
  • Broken Quick Resume
  • Unresponsive UI

These topics are not ā€œnewā€ issues / bugs / problems. We’ve had this problems since the 15th of November.
Out of all these things, what has been fixed? I’m not trying to be overly negative, but that’s the reality. Absolutely nothing. I’ll admit that there will be always cheaters (especially in a F2P Game), so let’s exclude this issue. All the other stuff? 0 Progress.

I’m not talking about Content Drops, I’m not talking about any social features, I’m not talking about any new stuff at all. I’m talking about the few things that are in the game.

Before anyone comes up with ā€œBut they’ve fixed BTB…that’s something!ā€ - BTB worked perfectly fine when it launched - somehow it stopped working Mid December and it took them over 2 months to bring it back to the current state.

Custom Games Still Don’t Work! I really have no faith in 343i getting Custom Games Fixed! Said but True :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

It was a perfectly fine patch… that is, if it were dropped during week 1. The BTB radar increase is nice and same goes for the fixed first person animations, however it just feels barebones now that we are more than 3 months in. I appreciate we are getting some mid-season updates since 343 really seems to hate doing them for some reason, but you’d think they’d at least put in some other thing like fixing the broken material on Jorge’s armor kit or the misaligned armor effects (which I don’t see how those couldn’t be addressed in an afternoon, unless if the Slipspace engine is absurdly obtuse). That’s not to mention more pressing matters like desync, playlists still being kinda lacking even when you don’t count gamemodes that aren’t implemented yet, custom game glitches, theater being broken, etc.

Totally, it was a great patch.
But a mid-season update? Nah man.
Fortnite or Warzone probably would’ve added this kind of patch in every 2 weeks

I don’t know about you, but the patch made the desync come back for me. I am at my wits end with this game.
