So yesterday warzone was announced and it just looked really cool, it completely lived up to my expectations of Halo’s new game mode.
But then watching the making of video and seeing the developers talking about req stations and req packs, i started to doubt it, but then i did what i always do being a Halo fanboy and thought that 343 must be able to find a way to make it work because of all the good new they have been bringing out recently; free dlc, campaign made for co-op and arena based multiplayer. but just now hopping onto waypoint and seeing that req packs can be obtained via microtransactions kind of ruined it for me.
microtransactions are pretty stupid in games in my opinion and the only time i can see a point for them is maybe in free to play games, normally on phones, but never in a game where you are paying over $80 for (Australian price) it just seems like a complete money grab, i would honestly rather pay an extra $20 for the game and actually get the full game where every one is equal and you need to play to get better the best req cards. Its great they have taken away DLC but this is honestly worse for me.
TLDR - microtransactions are terrible.
Rant concluded
Edit: I realise that it’s not pay to win the transactions just make it easier to obtain cards for less hardcore players. I just feel as if the entire req card thing was added for the micro transactions not gameplay.
You do realise you can still earn them just from playing right? Also you can’t just use them off spawn you need to earn the opportunity to use them in the game mode to begin with? Then of course the req packs are for use only in Warzone and no other mode so it is not really at all that bad chill lol :).
Dude. It doesn’t matter. They still have to make money, for the free maps. Just like how GTA V has free DLC but Shark Cards. Buying Req Cards are just for people who can’t or don’t want to waste time earning them in multiplayer. It’s not like we all don’t play a -Yoink- ton of multiplayer. We play tons! there’s no difference to someone who plays a lot and earns a -Yoink- ton of cards opposed to someone who buys a -Yoink- ton of cards

This, only very casual players who don’t come on often enough will buy them, but if you play halo and earn lots of them then everyone will be on the same playing field

What makes you think that, the Vidoc said you get them for earning ranks, how many ranks are going to be on the ladder.
You seem to think they will be random drops or rewards for matches or something. I don’t think they will be as a plenty as you think.

Do you realize that he’s right??? How do you expect then to make money? They’re doing what GTA V did. Free expansions with the option to buy money or you can earn it through jobs. No different with req packs. Calm down everyone about something so small.

I expect them to make money from they game they are selling us, plus it’s very different to gta v because instead of it being a dominantly single player warzone is almost strictly online.

Perhaps you’re not understanding what the definition of “Free” means. It’s still a contradictory statement.
If they have to make money for them then they by definition are not free. And since we live in a monetary based society, I don’t see how anyone can claim such a thing without either being dishonest or ignorant of how things work.
GTAV’s content is not “free” either, it too is paid for by the proceeds of the MT system.
In fact all games that offer “free” content, are in fact getting it paid for by some other means. And with MT systems usually as massively overinflated cost.

Um…have you played gta v??? You do realize that every dlc for that game is aimed at its online multiplayer

I mean it’s not a competitive multiplayer game so having micro transactions would only really affect the player.

Buuuuuut. If I don’t pay a single dime into the Req packs, just like the card sharks for GTA5. It is free for ME. And so to me. IT IS FREE DLC. So if someone else wants to spend their cash for me to get it for free. Then its free DLC

Ahh…spoken like a true socialist, no problem with it as long as somebody else pays for it.

But no one has to pay for it? It is optional for those who wish to do so or have more money than sense no one is being forced to buy these add on’s if you don’t buy the add ons which can be earned in game anyway then the DLC is FREE!!!

Warzone is not meant to be a competitive multiplayer mode so what is the issue? Arena is the competitive mode and the Req packs aren’t useable in those other than cosmetics that you have earned???

No it is not, someone is paying for them. If nobody purchased the MT then 343 would bear that cost. Obviously 343 has done the research and figured out exactly what per enrage of the population probably WILL purchase and figured they will make much more money doing MT then selling map packs / season passes. So they move the profit center from map sales to MT.
However if you work out how much money they will bring in via MT divide that by the number of people who purchased them. You will get the cost per person of how much the COST of those maps is, and I guarantee you it will be a lot higher then if they sold the maps to everyone.
And instead of everyone paying their fair share, the cost is piled onto a smaller group of people, while the vast people who don’t pay will enjoy the same thing, ie. freeloaders.
MT and free to play gaming concepts are actually a way for developers to jack up the costs of gaming and keep you from noticing.
That’s socialism in gaming folks.
As far as I know, micro-transactions have only been speculated to exist. There has been no confirmation. Please keep this in mind.
Edit: Never mind. Just saw this post.

If it’s not pay-to-win, and it only applies to a large-scale, non-competitive gametype, why does it matter? Is there something fundamentally wrong with 343 Industries, a game development company, making money on games?

Umm, it’s unfair, undemocratic, not to mention an inherently unsustainable business model that taken to its inevitable conclusion has destroyed every organization that has employed it.
And that I like 343 and halo, and I dont want to see it go down this dark path.
Ya know, that old chestnut.
