Microtransactions now total over £1000 GBP (143,800 Cr)

And before you say it, I know you’re not supposed to buy everything, just the few items that really grab you but…

As of the update this week (06th Sep 2022) to have bought everything in the store as it was released would have cost you 143,800 Cr.

If you bought the best value credit bundle (10,000 + 1,500 free for £79.99 GBP) it would total £1,000.22 GBP.

I must admit, I’m pretty amazed it’s reached this total so soon into the game’s 10 year lifetime.

I personally have spent zero in the store, but appreciate that 343i need people to spend in order to fund the FTP model so I wanted to thank each and every one of you who have spent money in the store to support the game financially.

I have bought the first two premium passes and subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and got the campaign with the limited edition console so perhaps have helped in my own small way.

Some facts about the store to date:

1,049 separate unlocks, across 189 bundles, for 143,800 Cr

If you use these forums a lot I am assuming you may have spent a bit in the store. I would like to know what items tempted you to break open your wallet…

I did want to add a poll asking how much you spent but I don’t know how to add polls lol

I’ve only bought the Season Passes (great value) and the cat ears… I have considered the Esports skins but haven’t made my decision yet.

I messed up from day one because I bought a big credit pack. My thinking was, “I’ll just have the credits for all future battle passes for a while”. In total I’ve got the following:

  • For the first battle pass I got the one that comes with extras (big waste of extra credits). unknown cr

  • 2 hcs armors (I regret buying them because I didn’t know they were locked and could not be customized) 2000cr

  • 2nd battle pass 2000 cr (I think for the regular one)

  • I bought 1 armor bundle for rakshasa (I regret my purchase and don’t use 99% of the items in it) 1200 cr

  • Halo armor effect 300 cr (I don’t regret this one because I do use it occasionally and still think it’s funny. However, I still feel like it should’ve -at the most- only cost 200cr

Overall, as a customer I’m unhappy with my purchases and feel like I was misled and ripped off.

Now I’m in the unfortunate situation of already having gave them my money and I just refuse to spend the remaining credits I have. I don’t support the practices used in the games monetization and will not use the credits I have as a statement to them (I only wish they didn’t already have my money).
The only thing that could make me use them would be buying the hayabusa armor w/katana or the haunted helmet, other than that I wont be paying for anything again (especially with no cross-core customization other than visors).

Yes, considering the seasons have been so long I think most people who bought the premium extra pass (25 free levels I think) have regretted it.

Also, the armour kits being so locked down is not good. At least with the season 2 playoff HCS packs you get the armour coating separately. I think 343 are learning

Honestly though, since it’s still not cross core and they have a habit of going back on their word, I see no reason to spend like $10 USD on a single coating (only item in the bundle I’d want). It just seems like a rip-off.

I still don’t like the micro-transactions, but at least if they’d just sold the coatings for like $1 a pop and they were cross core, legit almost everyone would get them. For instance, if they sold a cross-core HCS bundle with just the armor coatings, but all were included and priced it at $10-12… even I would buy that. They could’ve done that with the BR skins, make them cross-weapon coatings and sell them all in one big HCS bundle for $10-12. For pretty much everyone, that’s an incredibly difficult offer to pass up.

It’s like they forget that they are Halo and colors have always been free, this isn’t fortnite or warzone. Most people, especially people in the Halo community, find it incredibly stupid to pay/need to pay for colors. It’s not like we will suddenly forget the last 20 years ever happened.

I have a good friend that uses that line… I appreciate it

then they wouldn’t make a whole lot of money though. I’d argue its antithetical to a F2P game to have MTX that don’t actually cost anything.

The entire game is built on the back of the MTX sales, otherwise they’d have no way of making money outside of Campaign (which probably doesn’t make them much anyways because it has no Co-op or anything)

343i will drop support for Infinite sooner than later, I give it 1-2 years at most, once they wind it down they are far more likely to make prices dirt cheap. Live Service games are always best at the end of their lifecycles, Infinite will be no exception.

I thought I read somewhere long ago it’s meant to be a 10 year game?

You mean just like it was supposed to have splitscreen?

Anyway IIRC Phil Spencer kinda suggested that even if Infinite flopped to not treat it like their last Halo, so basically they’ll just shift resources onto Halo 7 or whatever.

Edit: 343i dropped support for Halo 5 after 2 years IIRC, and considering how low the population of Infinite is I cannot imagine them continuing support for 10 years, I say unless you see a massive resurgence ala Fortnite or something its likely to be dropped after the 2 year mark as well. Too little sales and revenue to justify the studio supporting it.

I’ve got the little bear on my chest, clonely bear.

Envy bundle because Pistola fan.

Why have money for electricity bills or food when you can just spend $1,000+ on a failing game? Yay!

People at 343 need to hear this idea, whether they pay any mind to it or not. Not only does that sound like a fairly solid business plan (I actually don’t know for sure XD), but I think the community would appreciate that a lot.

This isn’t actually that egregious when compared to other games. It’s BAD mind you, but oh man.

Star Trek Online? Hoo. THAT’S money…

Would not mind microtransactions if we also had ways to unlock armor similar to H3 Recon and Hayabusa and H5 Helioskrill. Something outside any pass and the store.

Also the armors that clearly don’t fit Halo’s tone should be removed and i think everyone knows what i am talking about here. If not removed at least be able to toggle them off like i mention in my other thread.

“When we get an armor toggle this is how it should work”

As a sort of random guess I’d think theirs roughly still 500k people still playing regularly with maybe 100-150k occasional players. If they made $10 on 550k players (as a rough estimate) that’s $5.5m, that doesn’t even include the weapon bundle income. contrast that with what they are currently doing…

Also, I understand that some people will find value in an overpriced offering, ultimately though, its the consumer who decides the value on their end. If no one was willing to pay $10 for 1 color applied to 2 things in a video game, they would improve their offerings to provide more value.

What they have been doing since launch is standard haggling, the seller overprices something with the plan to slowly lower the price as the customer complains. After a little back and forth both parties agree on a price, incidentally that price was actually the original target price for the item. In the end the customer feels like they won because they lowered it, and the seller knows they won because the got exactly what the wanted for it.

The reality of this is by going F2P, they missed out on the biggest opportunity the franchise has literally ever seen. They released an incomplete product and monetized the crap out of it.

If they had instead went with a box product for $60… hell even $70 and released it in a polished and complete state… omg, now imagine if the were able to hit the same release window, in the heart of a global pandemic with gaming at an all time high and all of your stiffest competition Yoinks the bed…

This was literally one of the biggest missed opportunities in gaming ever.

I’m right there with you. I’m thinking about possibly buying the new playoff skins for HCS. Maybe one of them. Maybe two of them.

I hate this but you’re probably right.

Those are very optimistic numbers. I would guess that Infinite gets between 50k-100k players occassionally. Nowhere near enough to survive. Even if you think that 100k players spend an average of $5 each a month, you are talking like 500k profit, times that by 12 and you get 6 million a year, which would be profitable but consider that the Esports tourneys are like 3-4 million a year (could just mean they’ll drop them obviously, but next season is definitely not going to be cancelled) then consider that each employee costs like 50k-100k a year in terms of salaries and it becomes pretty self evident that they could barely afford a dozen people working on Infinite exclusively, so its profitability is not high enough to warrant supporting it very much longer.

New Navi skin looks cool
