Microsoft Two New Studios

At XO18 yesterday Microsoft announced they acquired two new studios; inXile Entertainment and Obsidian Entertainment. Both these studios’ bread and butter genre looks to be RPG’s with inXile being the creators of games like Wasteland 2, Bard’s Tale series, while Obsidian has games like KOTOR 2, Fallout NV, and Pillars of Eternity series under their belt. I think if Microsoft or 343i ever decided to make a Halo RPG, one of or both these studios would be a good choice to head it with 343i collaborating.

I’m real excited to see what comes out of Obsidian and inXile in the next coming years. Hopefully nothing Halo related, but a new and exciting world which draws me in, in a way that hasn’t been done since Mass Effect.
These are awesome acquisitions by Microsoft and is a very good sign for the future of Xbox, especially after how bland this generation was with exclusives.

Microsoft seem to have heard people’s complaints about the lack of games this gen and are building for the next. 7 new studios within a year, pretty crazy. Wonder if they’re done now or are still actively searching out more studios to acquire.

Yeah I feel like if MS really wants to make some waves next gen, they’re gonna have a to have a killer line-up of launch games in comparison to the next Playstation. I’m all for it. The Xbox One is still hurting from its terrible launch. The fact that the xbox one is doing okay right now is impressive. The acquisition of all these new studios is cause for some excitement.

I feel like this whole generation for xbox has been trying to rebuild reputation after the horrible pre-launch/launch. Don really did a number on the brand, glad Phil is now working on first party so we can get some other games besides the usual main 3 franchises.

Hasn’t Playground been rumored to be working on an RPG? Or was that some other game that’s not Horizon?

It’s confirmed they have a second team within Playground that’s working on an open world action RPG. The rumor is that it’s Fable 4.

Right yeah, lots of potential for some great games in the next few years. A Halo RPG would be pretty cool. I’ve never gotten into them myself, but that might do it.
