Opened up my e-mail recently I found an e-mail sent to me by Microsoft. It is just one of those general e-mails advertising games and DLC and what not a lot of people get. But this one is just extra layers of funny and a bit sad. It is advertising the Arena REQ Bundle, but the way it does it kinda shows a pretty big problem for Halo 5. Let me give you some quotes:
Title: Your Spartan looks rookie basic.
Inside the e-mail: Yeah, we said it.
You’ve proved your worth, but your Spartan still looks like a fresh recruit. Make your Spartan look like the hard-core slayer that it is with the Arena REQ Bundle.
I have to find the in-your-face tone funny and know Microsoft and 343 have to make sales and everything, but again this alludes to a problem. My Spartan probably wouldn’t look so “rookie basic” if Halo 5 had better options of unlocking armor, skins, weapons and so on. At launch, I bought a few REQ Packs, but saw it was a waste of money for myself so I stopped. Now this means I have to grind the game for REQ Points. But wait, in order to get better stuff later I have to go through Bronze Packs and move up to Silver Packs. So I’m only “rookie basic” because the game is structured in a way that makes me have to be and apparently the only way to overcome that is dropping $25 for a bundle.
I don’t know, this is just funny and depressing at the same time.
I’m lvl 129 in Halo 5 and have all Bronze and Silver and missing very little gold things(like maybe 15 more gold packs) and I got that Message and was laughing my -Yoink- off at the Audacity -Yoink!- has to send me that -Yoink-. Like wtf you have to bully me into buying it? It really sad
I’m going to start calling my friends outfits “rookie basic” irl and see if it catches on.

And even then that bundle still gives out Common items, so you could shell out the cash and still look “rookie basic”. Not even worth it.
That’s how you market correctly
A friend just sent a screencap of this email to me in a group message, and we’re giving him hell for it. It’s pretty hilarious.

Bullying has jumped the shark.
Do they want this to be a joke, Or did they intend on mocking people to get them to spend money? Lol I hope it’s an advertising joke.
#rookiebasic You would think MS has a better marketing team and the data to send out targeted marketing. Marketing blunder 101. It was annoying to read.
I hate RNG and microtransactions so much. I still don’t understand why the REQs were needed in the first place. I just want Helljumper, and I keep getting armors like Recon “Added another white stripe” variants.
I’m sure it was an unmonitored address that you got the email from, but I have a reply for it.
So do your MP maps. You first.
There, I said it. lol

I think it is just supposed to be a joke, but it still highlights the problem with Halo 5’s RNG system. Of course I look #rookiebasic, but dropping $25 isn’t going to fix that.

The point of this thread is not to complain about how the REQ system is too hard for you. Please take your negativity elsewhere

I’d say he actually raises a valid point. As I pointed out, the RNG system is fairly flawed. The fact you have to go through Bronze Packs first and the Silver to get rid of Common and Uncommon REQs. That either requires a lot of grinding or buying Silver Packs (odd how you can’t buy Bronze). Now Microsoft is advertising the Arena Bundle and in effect reminding you of the quickness of just buying REQs.
Next they will create a commercial with a older bearded gentlemen in spartan armor who will say “Spartan Warehouse, you’ll like the way you look”
Sounds like yall are a bunch of “rookie basic’s” Especially the OP… ;o This might be more of an issue of you could easily inspect what your fireteam and combatants are wearing…

So? How does that make it flawed? All you did was tell me what the REQ does, you didn’t give any issues.
That’s just stupid. I was ok with them adding in microtransactions since they were totally optional, but now they’re trying to pressure people into buying it and that’s just wrong.
