Microsoft Just Bought Activision

No big deal at all for Halo.

The details of the purchase seem to leave all of the CEO’s in place, which if Activisions CEO did this to get heat off him, it’s a pretty big flex. He made Activision investors a decent amount with the deal.

This is more to continue making Game Pass the Netflix of gaming, and the bonus of getting King in the deal. All the talk is about MS buying up the IP’s in prep for getting the biggest chunk of the games market when ( and I shudder just saying this ) the Metaverse happens…if it happens.

Because it was already multiplat… What we are talking about is new games. All new CoD’s, Overwatch 2, etc.

People made your same argument about Bethesda… They said the same thing. Games currently on Playstation would remain, new games will be exclusive.

They treat it like an investment, so even though they lose out on money for now, they would make huge sums later on as more and more gamers have to move on to Xbox to enjoy their favorite games.

This sentence gave me the biggest smile I’ve had in nearly a month. Now they’ve got a separate Battle Royale they can milk money out of and just let Halo stay as an arena shooter.

Also, I think a World of Warcraft port is now a foregone conclusion?

Everybody else talking about CoD but I think its other properties could be pretty nutty too.

I’m really interested in the possibility of Overwatch seeing some real love.

I miss that game.

Hell, they need to make a Microsoft Super Smash bros :joy_cat:

I think people are looking at immediate impact but are completely ignoring possibility long term… Microsoft is probably planning huge things later on so CoD (although very lucrative) is likely not their only motivation. They were talking about metaverse or something lol. Expect some absurd concepts being played around with in the next few years.

This could actually be the reason why Halo Infinite is so lack luster, maybe Microsoft is gonna switch lanes later on… or maybe it’s just Microsoft proving that they still have to continue buying up as much talent as they can, while the other big dogs (Sony, PC, Nintendo) have talented creators oozing from every orifice.

I wonder what will happen to StarCraft/WarCraft, Diablo, and even Bethesda’s games now with Microsoft as the boss now. A part of me says: “Don’t worry they will toss millions of dollars at all of these franchises and make them all great!” but that just isn’t the truth most of the time.

100% agree here, people are seeing the positives but aren’t looking at how horrible Infinite has turned out and is a MTX generator. Agree, them buying one of the Kings of MTX’s immediately after Infinite just so happens to be sleezy is very suspicious and I am yet to see light in the situation. Thank god I’m older and don’t pay for ant MTX’s or even buy games anymore without them being thoroughly reviewed. Don’t worry MS and 343… I’ll play most of your games without dropping a penny, one way or another.

Why limit it. PlayStation users cash is good too.

I thought this was some power play? Didn’t they say Bethesda were Xbox exclusive now?

So… Destiny Armor Core crossover in Halo Infinite?

Bungie was never owned by activision-blizzard anyway. It was solely a publishing contract. Bungie has been an independent studio since they were released by Microsoft.

Maybe if they bought out Sony.

I’ve boycotted ‘Acti/Blizz’ for roughly seven years now. Not a penny to their company because I dislike how they treat their players (among other reasons). I might lift my boycott if the new management makes substantial changes to the way ‘Acti/Blizz’ does business as a whole.

That sucks for Activision. Bill Gates is far from a saint. Wouldn’t be surprised if that bleeds into MS’s leadership. Activision was on the verge of salvation. Now MS will probably fight the state of California tooth and nail.

Wow. Hopefully Microsoft updates the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro remake collections and the Crash Team Racing remake to be 4K/120 now. And makes Spyro 4 and makes CoD have longer development times. And ya know fire Bobby Kotick into the sun lol.

Make a new Guitar Hero too.

OMG please make Blur available again!

Not going to happen anytime soon, as both are tech-giants on equal footing.
Unless Sony makes a massive mistake that their value drops like the Great Depression, Microsoft will not be able to do a buyout of that company.

Activision was a smaller company in comparison. A publishing studio. Their only products that they produced were videogames.

Meanwhile Sony and Microsoft make far more than just games. They make computers, phones, software applications, etc.
