Microsoft is the reason why Halo 5 is a mess

Late Night Gaming recently made a video talking about Halo 5 and how it was not the game 343 planned and the top comment from himself on the video basically explains that Microsoft ordered that Halo 5 bring Cortana back, have all connections to Halo 4 be gone in the first mission, make the game have microtransactions and have little content at launch. As a side note I also personally think the community that hated Halo 4 didn’t help and Microsoft listened to them to reach this decision. Rather than stand there ground Microsoft panicked, did this and let 343 take the punishment because its 343 everyone hates them for some reason.

I -Yoinking!- knew it…Microsoft can kiss my -Yoink-.

And what can we do? Gamers don’t matter unless you have “Pro” in your tag now.

I love halo 5, and i started at halo 2, take off your nostalgia goggles and see the game for what it is, not for what it was 10 years ago, multiplayer wise, i think this in the top 3 for sure

I don’t doubt that Microsoft had a role in that, but I doubt that it was that simple. It’s never as simple as “Microsoft ordered that Cortana be back in Halo 5”. It’s more like, “Microsoft wants Cortana to be back; We don’t know how to do that. I guess let’s just make her a villian.” Or something like that.

I don’t see it being the vice executive of Microsoft is also the head of 343, surely she’d have influence on the franchise good or bad. if you’re blaming microsoft, you’re blaming 343 as well, vice versa.

Not sure why this guy should be believed. Why would an employee give this random nobody (relatively speaking, since he only has 13k subs) this info and not anybody with more credibility with sources, like Kotaku?

Just the other day a supposed former 343 employee did a Q&A on -Yoink!- (which Frankie commented on, but never denied it’s legitimacy) and said Cortana being back was always the plan. I’m more likely to believe that. I think people are just looking for excuses to not blame 343 for these decisions.

I agree with you, I started when CE came out. I think it’s a great game. It just bothers me that there not enough playlists.
The mechanics are so perfect, but there’s not enough playlists/game types in matchmaking to fully enjoy this game 100%, imo.

Halo5 isn’t a mess…
We get free new content every month, no one is forced to do microtransactions nor do you miss out on anything for not doing them, it only takes a day to beat any of the Halo campaigns so most of us don’t dwell to much on small plot points that aren’t there.

Halo 5 isn’t a mess, and Microsoft didn’t order them to “have as little content at launch” or to add micro transactions.

Also, why do you listen to someone with gaming in their name?

I don’t listen to him because he has Gaming in his name im not that stupid, I listen to him because in my opinion he’s right, you don’t have to be a genius to realize the campaign of Halo 5 was screwed up

Well if you saw it in a video it must be true. Right?

Totally agree. Halo 2 and 5 are my two favorites. Not for the story, mind you, but for their superb multiplayer.

Cortana being back was ALWAYS the plan IMO because Microsoft is using the name in Windows…it says ask Cortana anything on my laptop… but no I will not watch the random guy rant on YouTube. I refuse to give these ranters claiming facts when in FACT they don’t have any facts just their opinion really. It’s not much different as people using the random internet meme as their fact.

Considering what I saw from E3… I know what I intend to do. I’m going to keep a very close eye on Gears 4… HEY, MS, 343… WHOEVER… Gears 4 is actually shipping with horde mode 3.0! Wonder what else will be there that should be in the first place? While I’m not jumping up and down in the preorder line yet, I will be keeping an eye on the game that dares to admit what they should’ve done in the first place and actually does it.

It makes zero difference to me whose screw up it was in the end. I paid my money to get a game I wanted and looked forward to enjoying, not support who made it.

Although I will say that IF it is MS that made the call and 343 was just doing what they were corralled into doing, then I truly hope that they are listening, that they do have people reading through this forum and that said people take every opportunity to point out the things people are upset with to MS. They should.

For all the idiots who complained about Halo 4’s story because they preferred cool one-liners over character depth: congratulations, you’re one of the reasons as to why we have Halo 5’s campaign. I hope you feel accomplished.

What I’ve been saying all along guess I should have been saying it in the youtube comment sections

There’s probably enough blame to go around for both. Remember hypothesis is not fact, i do however believe that MS wanted Cortana back as they have now franchised her. It will be interesting to see how they turn her good again in the next chapter.

A publisher will always have a say in a games’ development, but unless that publisher is the sole reason the game exists and makes money, then every descision is still made by the developer. With the publishers word in mind.

Publisher = Microsoft
Developer = 343 + Any hired person/company

CONTENT THAT WE SHOULD’VE GOTTEN AT LAUNCH
