In the Halo universe, there are many characters that are MIA but dead.
However, there are also pressumably, alot of people that are supposeddly Kia/Mia that are still alive, like the Spirit of Fires crew.
What would you think about a story, where a marine returns to his friends an family after years they thought he was dead?
And are there any reported cases where pressumably dead personel was still alive, except for the SoFs crew?
There’s that one in Hunters in the Dark.
He’s attacked at first on the Ark, then the ship gets stuck in slipspace, Tragic Solitude then ‘saved’ him. Everyone thinks he’s dead, but on the next visit to the Ark he’s found out to be alive.
Kurt, Randall, Dasc Gevadim, the Ussans. And the list goes on…
Still waiting for Preston Cole to make his triumphant return…

I should have been more precise,I meant people with that fate that are still alive. All of the ones you mentioned are already deceased except Dasc.
Also I dont think that Cole will make an return as an admiral, but maybe we can see what he does now,if he actually survived the battle.
This is an overplayed trope in storytelling and literature, so I would definitely say no. I’d much rather leave it as it is and let the imaginations of the community run wild and decide for themselves what happened. Some things are best left to the imagination and the interpretation of the player or reader.

It is a an overplayed trope, but thats litteraly in every story that includes death,at the end it will use an overused trope to either kill their characters or let them live.
I need to say,a full story would be too much. But if we ever get an book with several stories, like Evolution,I hope it contains an one side note about someone who returns home.
Thank you for your opinion

Just a small, character-driven story about what it’s like to return from being stranded for years. A Marine who had no idea about the war’s end, who looks and sees everything that’s changed since then. He sees his family again, he sees the UNSC’s policy changes, that sort of thing. It doesn’t have to be an important character or a big, significant plot, just a small exploration of character.
