343 can do anything to nerf the AR and automatics in general, but assuming that nerfs leave the AR to remain viable, NOTHING will stop players from continuing to use it the way it was intended to be used: at close quarters to mid-range, punishing anyone who gets too close. Even after the nerfs, there will be instances where an AR or automatic weapon will win an engagement against a Magnum or BR at close or mid-range, and people will either continue to complain, or finally accept that skill with automatics has always been on par with precision weapons.
You don’t understand the reason the AR is being “nerfed” to begin with.
Automatics by design are easier to use than precision weapons. Each bullet fired from an automatic weapon is not as punishing when you miss, while a precision weapon is more punishing when you miss.
If anything, the damage of the automatic weapons should be unchanged, but the recoil of the automatic weapons should be heavily increased. This forces people to burst fire with automatic weapons beyond close range, requiring some level of aiming and skill to compete with the Pistol and BR. But the Pistol and BR should have a much bigger advantage in mid range, because that is the ideal range for those two weapons.
And it’s not just that, it’s the sheer number of automatic weapons on the field at once too. Everyone starting with an AR means that everyone has an automatic weapon on standby. Removing it as a starting weapon on HCS means there are now 8 less ARs on the field at any given time. The SMG and Storm Rifles are almost power weapons in itself, and should be spawning in more dangerous locations like Truth does in bottom Mid. If anything, SMGs on the map should be replaced by ARs and Storm Rifles on the map should be replaced by Brute Plasma Rifles.
Is it getting nerfed or are we talking about its removal in team arena? If its getting nerfed then I would voice concerns as I find it fine as is. It was finally efficient at the range it was used while a skilled person using precision weapons can still kill you faster by a fraction of a second. If this is about the latter then I am fine with it. It allows for higher skilled play and in a sense turns and automatic into a semi power weapon in the sense that you can get close and kill an opponent in close quarters.

The multiplayer team is working on nerfing the AR to be re-introduced into competitive arena after the Summer 2017 season. I think that a nerf will not affect how players use it CQB, which is a good thing.
I love the AR and it’s my go-to weapon in most situations. I accept that in many mid-range gunfights, that even if I get the drop on an enemy, there is still a chance I’ll die to a better player with a precision weapon. But, the AR has always felt most natural to me, so short of a power weapon, I always use it.
I did like the HCS setting removing it – but I don’t think a nerf is in order.
This is certainly the best balanced AR Halo has ever had, ever (imo). The bloom mechanics are great for autos and the headshot magnifier helps a lot too (to make it not a complete scrub weapon). But I would like the recoil to be more punishing. Its not terrible by any means, but I do think the AR should require some more discretion to its use.
But I didn’t know they nerfed it. When was that lol?
There was the rapped fire 1 second kill glitch that was going on for a while… I think that deserves a bit of a nerf, lol
Really, the only thing that concerns me about the AR nerf is if it’s going to be applied across all modes. If it’s just going to be in HCS matches, then that’s fine, but if it’s across multiple or even all gamemodes, that’s where I draw the line.

You mean that thing with the modded controllers where people would kill in a half second by abusing a flaw in the way the Assault Rifle was coded/programmed/implemented/whatever?
I’m pretty sure that was patched.

yes that madness.
And I hope that was patched, lol
It was nerfed for it’s intended use. I never had a problem with people using AR’s but in h5 (not as much as 4) it was a little to op imo. Mostly for mid range someone could still use an AR effectively against a precision and outbeat it not due to skill alone but rather it was more forgiving with bullet missed and etc. I believe this nerf will not make the AR the “boltshot” of Halo 5 the go-to side arm in halo 4. I still believe it’s effectiveness won’t go down in the hands of a skilled player like how precision in the hands of a skilled player. Just game style preference now not oh this is easy to use and op
I like the AR as is. The old games were all BR. Use it or die. I like how Halo 5 has more than one effective weapon. A good BR or Magnum user will still wreck and AR user if they keep some distance. Add some recoil to the AR but if they weaken it then it becomes useless like the old games.

Well, if I read the patch notes for Monitor’s Bounty correctly, it should be patched.

I 100% agree with this. Ar’s are not necessarily OP, they are just ‘easier to use’ compared to precision weapons, with pretty much a similar result in TTK at mid range, even when fired full auto. This is just wrong, especially considering how blatantly easy it is to hit players with it due the massive reticle. Players have been wanting the AR tweaked (not necessarily nerfed) to have it require an equal amount of skill to kill an equally skilled BR user since launch, even beta if i remember right.

I think they (the multiplayer team) is working on a nerf for the AR, that will probably be implemented some time after the Summer 2017 season. We will will need to wait til then to see what changes are made.
You want to nerf the AR so you can pistol snipe safely from distance?
HOORAY BACK TO A ONE GUN GAME

this basically sums up what I was gonna say.
The only Nerf it needs is taking away the headshot bonus

As one of the MLG tryhards I still sympathize with your attitude here. But what the MLG tryhards feel like is that the current settings already are ONE GUN GAME. And that gun is the AR which is so often the safer bet. An exaggeration for sure, but ideally for me would be a mild expansion on the bloom/recoil to encourage players to pace their shots and actually be more accurate, for the Proving Grounds radar to be universal, and for the AR to be universal too even as a starting weapon in Arena. I like the variety like you two do. And I like a firm reliance on the pistol like tryhards do. And I like trying to keep the casual and comp settings from being too different as 343i does.
