So, aside from all the (needed) discussion around BP, progressions, and armor unlocks, etc. I’d like to highlight something a little more trivial but nonetheless important to me: Menu customisation! With all the talk of character customization, I feel a much needed yet ignored area of customization is in the area of home page/menu. It would be nice to have options around this.
Music
As you boot the game up and are in the main menu, there’s classic Halo music. Gregorian chants. This is a big time vibe for me, love it. However, you enter multiplayer menu and it changes to some strange atmospheric rock stuff. Not a vibe for me.
What’s worse, is this atmospheric rock accompanies you IN GAME! Without an option to turn it off specifically. There’s audio options for turning off menu music, or turning of all music (if my memory serves me right). But I don’t want silence in my menu, or even during/mid game, I just don’t want this new stuff, it seems so unfitting to me.
My proposal/request to 343: there’s no need to remove the music already present just because one person don’t dig it, but it would be great to have two added options -
1) Audio option to remove multiplayer music altogether without muting menu music, i.e. the music playing just before/near the end of a match, and most importantly
2) Audio option for more classic-Halo-style soundtrack to play in the multiplayer menu and pre/end match.
Menu
The multiplayer background/menu in general is very bland and uninspiring for me. Compare it to Reach, or previous Halo games, and it just falls flat. The main menu is okay, but what makes it is the music, not the visuals, I’d say.
(Soooo I had a whole section here of visuals comparing Infinite’s menu layouts to Reach, CE, and Halo 3, etc. and provided some examples of concept menus created by fans, but for some bizarre reason, I’m not allowed to post links or images. Sorry folks).
What I propose/request is:
1) Ability to choose from various backgrounds/layouts. Nothing too functionally different, just cosmetically.
Summary
I know some of us will disagree and be happy with what we have.
I know some of us aren’t even that bothered.
But I know some of us get the feels every time they hear that classic Halo chanting with some space inspired, blue layout.
What harm would there be in having an option?
A game isn’t just the gameplay, multiplayer or campaign, it’s the whole package. The whole thing has to immerse you. When you boot it up, you gotta be in the world of Halo. Having the option to choose between layouts and music would make Infinite an epic experience for all of us.
