First off, let me start by saying that I love the new armor coming with this update (that wrath helmet is perfect!). I have heard a lot of discussions involving the changes to these armor sets and I think I have a reason. Halo has always been a game based around its lore, wether it be the armor or the fact that the multiplayer itself has a reason to be canon. With this in mind, Along with the fact that the majority of armor sets in halo 5 are gen 2, it is safe to assume that these changes are lore based. Think about it, the air assault doesn’t have a robot arm because, well, not every air assault Spartan lost an arm for some reason. The wrath armor is slightly different from the halo reach permutation as this new set needs to work with the thrusters in gen 2 armor.
Keep in mind this is simply a theory, however. It is also likely these changes are for game balance reasons

The lore is a good backup to 343’s changes, but it all really amounts to 343’s artistic visions. If the artists feel like changing something, they’ll probably change it. It’s just how the system works.
What’s that ONI emblem hiding? Are you a phaeton? Or even a falcon?
Using Emile’s armor as an example, where his knife and bandolier are placed are his personal choices, which gives him character, much like Kat’s robotic arm since she lost her arm in a battle, and Carter’s Left shoulder face shield is. When they recreated the armor, it was like the tactile choices for us to choose (go in guns blazing wrath armor, the tank which is jorge’s armor, combat advisor for kat’s armor [my opinion of what her role was since she thought of the craziest ideas and was the technician], sniper, and commando and you know the rest) but the character’s personal adjustments will always remain with them.
Wonder how drastically different Jorge/Jun’s armor is going to be.

Mark V Alpha says hi.
I still wish they had some sort of robot arm thing, that would be awesome!
If we’re using lore to explain the changes, and saying that the original placement/configuration of things was the personal choice of the Spartan wearing it at the time, then it makes no sense for the Wrath helmet to have the skull carved into it. It was Emile who carved the skull into his visor.
So the Wrath helmet should be plain, going by your own reasoning.
I wish the armor’s name were different. Like instead of Wraith or Noble, they should name it EVA [W] or Commando [N]. Because these armors are just upgraded versions of older variants. Don’t think they should get a completely different name or be titled a different new armor because that’s how the armor used to look before. For example the new commando armor is garbage and I wish the Noble armor should have take that position. Does anyone follow me or am I over thinking too much?
The armor names pay – to some extent – homage to the original members of Noble Team. For example, the “Monument to NOBLE Team” states that Emile was “the merciless wrath of Noble”, hence his armor’s name being Wrath.
I wish 343 would have been a bit more consistent with the armor names, though, by either using nouns OR adjectives (e.g. Jun’s armor should be called Vigilance instead of Vigilant), but that’s the designer in me talking.
I think people forget these are also being “marketed” as being based on Noble teams armor. They aren’t actually noble teams armor. Otherwise a male spartan would be able to put on Kat’s armor.
