Old:
Energy Sword (Covenant): moderate attack speed, one hit kill, short range
Gravity Hammer (Covenant): moderate attack speed, variable damage, moderate range
New:
Katana (UNSC): fast attack speed, two hit kill, short range
Combat Knife (UNSC): very fast attack speed, four hit kill, very short range
Energy Spear (Covenant): moderate attack speed, two hit kill, moderate range
All of the new ones have been seen in the Halo universe in some way before, just not in multiplayer. Also, I think it would be awesome if Brute Shots and Maulers can use their bayonets for Assassinations now.
The problem with UNSC melee weapons is that there is no way a hardened steel katana is going to punch through an elite’s energy shields AND armor. It would be pretty darn cool, but I don’t see it happening.
That said, the energy spear idea sounds great. Maybe a jackal stun rod or a vibroblade (Star Wars anyone?)

Well, in Reach, Spartans use combat knives to assassinate Elites, so I don’t see how a large sword cannot punch through the shields and armor. Also, that is why I said you will need two hits to kill with it.

Fun > Realism
And I’d sooner see a machete as a UNSC weapon, not a katana.
The energy spear sounds interesting, the katana and combat knife are made out of steel which is not cutting titanium.
I would like to see what the new enemy has in store.
The new additions are completely unnecessary. They’re redundant.
No.
