Melee registration worse now

Was there a patch today?

I played for the last 4 hours and had 2-3 dozen cases of melee not registering. I noticed it primarily in my final act to force a trade or at least drop the enemy shields before my demise. In some cases the animation would happen but no damage delt, in others the animation wouldn’t even occur. I realize that some of these are probably from me actually being a bit late on the button push, but it was noticeably worse today compared to the past few months.

I know this is an issue with the game, but I’m wondering if anyone else noticed this being worse or if I’m just grumpy cuz i sucked worse than usual today.

Desync kicked up for your region’s server connections it seems.

Same experience last night, 3 or 4 occasions where there was sound and animation but no effect. Highlight: got back smacked, turned around and killed the guy. xD

Desync definitely got worse after the weekly update. My ping was fine but the desync was horrible.

Every adjustment or update makes the game worse. I said last week that if the game is still stable after 2 updates this week then I’d be surprised…I can only see it getting worse by the weekend. Prove me wrong 343i.

I feel there’s a lot of inconsistency here. Sometimes i can get off about half a clip into someone, melee them and nothing happens, but they can turn around and 1 shot melee me?

Not just that.

I have to play 5 fiesta matches to complete a challenge. I played 4 so far but the challenge says I’ve done one.

Like so many of their challenges before, the programmers can’t seem to coordinate with the graphics designers.

You need to WIN 5 Fiesta games not just complete them.

Mine says just complete. Not win. If its win then this game is screwed

This isn’t the first time one of their challenges has said that you need to complete games when actually it required wins to progress.

The opposite has also happened where the challenge said wins were required but you actually only needed to complete games.

It seems to be messed up most often with the final ultimate weekly challenge.

As everyone has mentioned here, the desync is significantly worse now. I have experienced the exact same issues as you more times than I can count. It’s frustrating because it’s affecting my rank. Rank is no longer indicative of skill, but indicative of how good your server connection is. You will be hard pressed to find someone of a high rank if they live far away from servers.

The worst part is that you can’t trust the latency timer in the game. I have had vastly different lag issues despite the latency number on my screen.

Yeah had some stupid stuff happening in game today.

Shot whilst really far around a corner.
Hitting an enemy with melee 3 times with no affect.
Being one hit melee killed from the front but the game saying it was from behind.
Picking up grenades then having to wait for them to show up.
Enemy literally appearing then disappearing.

I’ve got a number of kills/assists I really shouldn’t have and been killed a load of times I shouldn’t have. I’ve been playing FPS since the Wolfenstein 3D and I’ve only ever played 1 FPS with worse desync issues (The OG Rainbow 6 on dial-up but it was sorted with a patch).

My ping has been a suspiciously consistent flicker of 30-31.

The getting shot behind cover was really bad for me as well. It wasn’t significantly worse, like the melee, but I had some of my worse offenders, and on 30 ping it made me raise an eyebrow.

It seems like when I have a game that actually feels good to play with shots registering and melees connecting, my ping reported in game is actually higher than usual.

Agreed, the ping time does not match the experience. I suspect one of a few things is happening here:

  1. The method they use to calculate latency is flawed, and is not indicative of where the slow down in the network path is happening.
  2. Something other than ping time is greatly affecting the player lag/desync experience. Perhaps in the code or the server infrastructure itself.
  3. A combination of all of the above.

Given that I personally have very few problems with other multi-player games and not exacerbated to the level experienced with Halo Infinite, it leads me to believe that they need to do more investigation into what is causing these issues.

I should also note that I own a PC (Nvidia 3080 TI, 32 GB RAM, Western Digital Black SN850 NVMe, Asus x570 motherboard, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X processor) and an Xbox Series X and I play Halo Infinite on both platforms and experience the same issues regardless of platform. On speedtest.net I consistently get 1 MS ping time and 940 Mbps/940 Mbps with my fiber to the home Internet plan with Bell as my ISP service provider here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. As a network engineer, I have verified that my network in my house is not causing the issue. I can confirm that no other multi-player games give me the same lackluster performance that Halo Infinite is giving me.

I am willing to stick around for a bit to see if things improve, but at some point I will walk and move on to other games that are worth my time and effort.

Game has definitely gotten worse. I was constantly playing in the upper Diamond and lower Onyx bracket. Now a D2 game feels like playing against the full Cloud 9 squad…
Ping doesn’t mean anything. Pretty much the same thing as it is/was with Gears…

for me at least, the reason melee registeration is so bad is because of the lack of collition… ya know, causing the lung to go through the enemy, melee just not registering because ‘you’re behind and through them’… that mixed with the desync is so frusterating

i’m always trying to ninja ppl, tonight i jump thrusted behind someone for the beatdown and it still didn’t register as a back smack just a standard melee and H5 is down right now, none of the MM menus load for me so I’m going to go over to COD 2019 for the night, this game is one disappointment after another
