Melee kills are ruining gunfights

Halo is a First Person “Shooter”, so when players are charging through bullets to make every effort to punch someone rather than shoot them I think there’s a balance issue with melee attack. I think that the melee range and damage needs to be looked at. Seems a little OP right now.

The melee damage has always been this strong in Halo. It feels absolutely fine to me. If you find yourself getting double melee’d, you should probably improve your close-quarters combat. A few shots and a counter melee will take out a double melee as long as your shots hit first.

Tell me you’re a new halo player without explicitly saying it. You’d die of a heart attack then if you’d play any halo before this one haha

Right? Haha, I almost had to double check to make sure I wasn’t on a CoD forum. In all seriousness though, OP, you’ll get used to the melee damage and the damage threshold to one-melee someone charging you

You just gotta stay out of range until you get used to it.
Been there since day one. Some people never do it and once they start the game really changes for them

The Golden Triangle of Halo Combat
Weapons, Grenades, Melee
Melee has always been a feature of the combat loop of Halo since day one, I have no idea how you haven’t figured that out over the 20 years of this franchise

It’s more of a funky square if you add map positioning

I’ve been reaping a steady harvest of kills from what I’m guessing are new players that never melee.
It’s enjoyable. Thought I’d be way behind the curve since I haven’t played MP seriously since Reach.

Tell me you’ve never played Halo before, by not telling me.

Ya did it!

If in fact I had already explained it in another post

The melee-hit will end up killing “E-SPORTS-SCENE” in halo.

I am not INTERESTED if the blows have been part of the CORE of the game, it is not healthy for a GUN-PLAY to ruin it. It would be better if the SUB-WEAPON was a shotgun like “GEARS”.

I have repeated it several times, in overwatch / apex the mele damage does 30 damage and is a tool for support.

If you can’t stand the melee damage (which punishes POOR gameplay and strategy), stay back with your shooty thingies and go pew pew.

Melee has been a core aspect of halo since forever, is not the problem in infinite, poor weapon balancing is.

Outside of the AR, BR and pistol, any other gun requires you to melee because they are crap and have piss damage once the enemy shields are down, force you to melee in order to get the kil. Most of the banished weapons have this problem. even the bulldog, whats the purpose of a shotgun if you cant kill with a single shot from a close range.

Agreed. Weapon ballancing will be a dance for a bit. The bulldog definitely needs a damage buff to counter sword. I also disagree with the one-shot ability of the (don’t remember the correct name) line rifle. The commando needs bloom removed, and the AR needs a bit more bloom to control how devastating it is at range. I think 343 will work those things out.

As others have said this is a long time staple of Halo, it’s just something you’ll need to get used to.

You can make it work to your advantage too, you can bait out bashes as if you’re going for the melee yourself and just keep shooting instead.

This is what I’m talking about. I get that melee is a part of the combat but it’s just a little out of balance with the other weapons.

This isn’t Overwatch or Apex. If you wanna play those games, play those games, stop trying to force it on a game franchise where it is core to the gameplay loop and has been for 2 decades. If you wanna change it personally for yourself, then you can do so in Custom Games.

Leave the triangle alone!

Melee is and hopefully always will be part and parcel of Halo.

My biggest gripe, and it kills melee, is player collisions.

They need to all be on, all of the time, NO exceptions!

The melee is fine, but collision really needs to be turned on can be hella frustrating passing through players when going for that melee kill, feels janky/silly at times

Somebody hasn’t experience a true Spartan charge or a ground pound

I think the delay between hits should be longer.

It’s really annoying how most melee fights end up being double melee which requires zero skill.

Atm, you have a chance for 1 shot before the double melee hits you…it’s so frustrating and boring.

Give skill more of a chance to prevail.
