Melee counter

How would you guys feel about a Melee counter:

You are getting melted in your opponent goes in for the classic head on melee to finish you off. Only now you time it right n gun barrel gaurd n shove that reset the attacker n victim to a neutral position.

Thoughts… would u think it would add more interesting interactions

Just jump over them when they try to melee. I think this is a cool idea however I don’t think the application would be as seamless as we envision.

I think that would damage the balance of Halo’s golden triangle (gun,grenade, melee). They all have a role with risk and reward, implementing a counter to one of those in the basic kit would severely change that.

In reality it’s mostly about counting shots and be mindful of placement and distance. Did i have first shot? Then i’ll keep my range so they can’t comeback with a quick melee and headshot. Ambushed in a CQB situation i’ll hope to hug and go for a trade with 2 melees.

All of course depending on the lunge and tracking of melee in Infinite, just happy that the spartan charge is gone :slight_smile:

2 energy swords have a dance/ counter to reset. Why would this break that triangle. Melee is still the same just a added layer like when 2 energy swords duel

True I feel it’s too many clunky things in Halo that can be more better implemented that would be more pleasing. So instead of the jump it’s like a energy sword duel. Remember that wasn’t always like that as well

Basically u get rid of the 2 guys smack each at the same time n die Is scenarios. So I don’t think it’s something that would be as drastic as you guys are thinking. Just replace all the times it’s a “both melee at the same time moments” with a reset to continue more gun play or another melee. A rock paper Scissor scenario

That’s a situation in which there are 2 power-weapons in play so in my opinion not comparable.

I think it would break the triangle because it brings uncertainty of the effect of melee. The damage of a grenade is a constant, the amount of damage your shots deal are a constant. The only way an enemy spartan can prevent/mitigate that damage from happening is by strafe/movement which the player can respond too.
This is currently the same case for a melee where you either try to control the distance or strafe/jump to make the enemy miss.

Don’t get me wrong i like ideas that can further differentiate skill at high level, but as it’s a full counter to a basic ability (also influenced by lag etc…) i think the impact will be to big (also think of the balance in TTK which takes shots and melee into account).

But did you get my caveat. It’s only in a scenario where we but melee at the exact same time…n what if it’s only in a both die instance. The classic we both melee n die at the same time…why not reset there so it’s not a defacto tie. Most would reset the shot. Rewarding a true winner for who lands the shot first. It “throws” both guys out of melee range. So either you close distance again or shot.

You normally have plenty of time to shoot an opponent before they get into melee range, exception being corner campers. If you haven’t killed them by the time they’re in your face it’s your fault they punched your face in. I don’t think this is a necessary mechanic.

Feels cheap. If I shoot first and then go in for the melee kill, why should I lose the kill if the only thing the enemy did was melee. It breaks the flow of counting your shots, this is the same BS that made Halo Reach melee so awful when they prevented melee bleed-through.

nono I think it would not be a good idea, I prefer the current melee system in the game.
