Melee combat needs a bit of a rework

Melee is a bit weird in infinite now, and I don’t feel like I am the only one who doesn’t like it when you melee someone and they melee back and you both die. it just feels wrong when it happens. so I have a few ideas.

first, maybe a melee priority system? your fists and weapons without melee weapons would deal damage after weapons with melee bits on them, like the skewer. those melee bit weapons would deal damage after objectives, like the flag. and objectives would deal damage after melee specific weapons like the sword. the gravity hammer is a bit of an outlier considering its less a melee weapon and more a very close area weapon, but in theory it would be grouped with the sword.

failing that, at least making the weapons with melee bits deal more melee damage, or outright be one shots would at least make them feel a little better. though doing so may be a bit over powered. that could possibly be avoided by making their dash range quite a bit lower than the sword, either by reducing it for them or increasing it for the energy sword so it still has a place.

either way, as it stands melee feels good, it just doesnt make any sense that 2 players meleeing each other results in both dying when one has a mangler or something of the like. even when they are both just slapping each other with normal weapons, I feel like it should take into account whos input was received first. and you should have priority when you have an objective, I feel like that would make the objective games like oddball and ctf more fun.
