Ok, I watched the Latest video… I got SO PUMPED. It looks so fresh and new, what halo has been needing for years… instead of everything trying to capture that CE feeling with Reach and ODST. (good games… but its defiantly time to evolve).
One thing I DID notice tho… is with every new halo game, they add more medals. Some medals in reach I thought were unnecessary, such as the Super-combine. You’re not gonna get a kill with a needler without getting that medal so whats the point of receiving a medal for it? Aren’t medals suppose to be for doing something really good?
In this video… Theres a Medal For almost EVERY gun kill. theres a Rocket Kill medal, Sniper kill medal, Railgun, Splaser, even a shotgun one. And ofc you’re gonna get headshot medals with teh DMR and BR. Really? Instead of medals… theyre basically just becoming a “how many kills you got with taht gun” thing instead of something rewarding.
I think it is meant to lead to more accurate statistics on how a certain individual plays the game.
It’s for bad players to feel good about themselves.
> It’s for bad players to feel good about themselves.
they’d feel even BETTER about themselves if medals were harder to get like the previous games. So when they got them… they’d be like OMG YEAH!! Instead of… “wtf is this -Yoink-… im casual and idc. I join a matchmaking game only when someones over and wants to play, but we decide to watch a movie in the middle of the game because we’re casual and we get bored so we quit in the middle of the game.”
THATS a casual player.
I personally think that there are too many pointless medals in Reach too.
Something like, say, a Supercombine Spree, using your example, would make ALOT more sense IMO. As it’s a medal to indicate you did exceptionally well with either the Needler or NR (body shots).
I also think medals like Firebird, Rejection, etc are just pointless. A Medal should always represent a feat, and not just be given to you because you happen to have a certain piece of equipment and did nothing really special.
I would have to agree the medals are getting out of control. Press start get a medal, join a game get a medal, get a kill or get killed get a medal and so on and so forth. Seriously distraction medal, really… REALLY. So unnecessary. You shouldn’t get one kill and have 8 medals pop up on the screen.
I like the “unnecessary” medals. It makes me feel like I accomplished something lol. Also I pretty much check everyone’s medals after a game so it would help me see how many kills each person got with each medal.
I think having this many different medals would actually help with the crazy statistics that have been collected and would better define what type of player someone is.
I kinda like the unnecessary medals. It helps me see exactly what a person’s (by that I mean my own) playstyle is.
Not to mention, I really really REALLY like shiny things, so…

OH MY GOD. THANK YOU.

Like buying a 50!

First strike medal
Destination medal
Its like everything has a medal And they seem easier to get
But im all for MEDALS the more the better
Its just a little silly thats all
The moment players started getting rewarded for using Jetpack and Armor Lock is when medals lost all meaning.
Some medals are pointless (shotgun kills, RL kills), others are funny.

Well if we want to see how people play, can’t we have another page on the post-game report that lets us know how many kills were obtained by all players with different types of weapons?
I understand where you’re coming from, but medals are medals. You know, like OP said, do something special.
I know it’s a bit of a silly topic, but it’s quite true. I think medals aren’t really used for statistics. That stuff should be in the post-game report.
Just my opinion, however.
Shiny medals in a video game never held much meaning. I with someone else that posted in here, they’re probably using them to track player stats, which is a good move, that’s one less invisible subroutine running. It’s something you can see.
In the end I pose a question, did medals ever really have a meaning?

What is this? I don’t even…

This.
I don’t feel that more medals take anything away from the game - players will still understand that a “Snap Shot” medal takes more skill (or luck) than a “Beat Down.”
I like to think of medals like the codes in a baseball box score: they help you recreate/understand the game after it has taken place. Now if you see someone go 30-3 in an Slayer match you can easily understand what they were doing/how they did this. “Ah, the rail gun,” you’ll say. “Maybe I should give that a try.”
