I believe Halo 4 had to many medals, and some that are not very interesting example “Convert Assit” which Is not hard to get like some of these medals below.
What medals should obviously be in
Killing Spree-Unfriggenbelievable
Double kill-Killionaire
Extermination
Beat Down
Splatter
First Strike
Splaser
Stick
Bulltrue
Sniper “HEAD SHOT” medal
Weapon sprees example 15 kills with the sniper you get “Be the Bullet”
Perfection
Revenge
Head Shot
Kill from the grave
Killjoy
Snapshot
Assist
Objective COMPETE examples Flag Captured, Site extracted
objective started Bomb armed(Assault) First Point (koth)
Skyjack
Hijack
I missed a couple, tell me them and I will edit my list. If you have an idea for a medal tell me about it.
Sniper Headshot medal
Weapon specific spree medals. e.g. Open season or Sharpshooter
Perfection medal (I can’t stress this enough! I miss it )
Remove
Distraction (just why?)
Comeback kill (not necessary)
Revenge (again unnecessary in my opinion)
Weapon specific kills e.g. Sniper kill, Rocket kill etc
On the whole I think there are too many medals in general, fairly mediocre occurrences are rewarded nowadays. Compare the amount of medals you get in 3 compared to 4 and you’ll see what I mean!!! This is only my opinion though.
I kinda agree with AlmightyAl 93, I mean, having too many takes away from the satisfaction of earning a MEDAL. I think they have so many so that aweful players like me can feel good about themselves. There seems to be a lot of “at least you tried” and “thanks for showing up” awards. You get a distraction for being shot at so long as the guy shooting you dies by someone else’s hand … “I ran away and got a medal” and the guy who saved your yoink gets a guardian angel medal or something, right?
Snapshots are well-earned, I think. Those are hard.
You get a medal for getting a regular kill… thats pushing it waaaaaay too far. I was good with the multi kill medals and the spree medals. A few others are fine but other than that, medals should be more of a challenge to get.
> There is a medal for getting a generic kill, that needs to leave so much it’s not even funny.
>
> Also, why are Assists medals? They’re not that hard to get or noteworthy, why not just let them go back to the stats like in previous games?
I always assumed that they hooked the XP system up to medals for some reason, such that in order for an action to affect your XP, it must grant you a medal.
I agree that they should kill the Kill Medal.
> Anyone else prefer the worn-out look the medals had in Reach over H4’s?
I did. The style was more memorable, and scaled down better. At small sizes (e.g. 90% of the time they’re displayed in-game) Halo 4’s medals become unrecognizable blobs of blurred, mashed-together lines.

Because I suppose walking around isn’t a productive activity.
OP decided to make assumptions, so I pointed out that a different POV does in fact exist. If we’re going to start throwing around lists of medals which “need” to be cut, don’t you think some sort of criteria should be explained first?
How special is “special”?
How many medals is “too many”?
Halo 4’s medal system is tied to its in game personal point system. If we’re ditching the common medals, is the system also going?

In my opinion there are way too many medals now. Little things like a stick, snapshot, sword kill or a revenge should not warrant a medal. These are very common things that don’t really relate to your overall performance in the match. I don’t think assists should give you a medal. Maybe an assist spree, but that’s as far as I’d go.
When you get a medal for a flag cap it makes sense because it’s valuable for your team to play the objective. When you get a high kill spree it shows that you are dominating a match. Hijacking a vehicle makes sense because vehicles are a part of map control. Giving medals for basic things or little tricks that have no significance to winning the match dilutes the whole system.

Comeback kill I agree with since its nearly pointless.
Revenge should return since its nice to know how you murdered your rival, a rival system should be put in place (think like in battlefield)
Distraction is too easy to get but I think it can stay but it needs to be tweaked where you have to actually distract people using hologram or draw their fire for a significant amount of time.
Certain weapon ones should return like supercombine, but as you pointed out: sniper, rocket, splaser, fuel rod kill etc. should be removed and replaced with the weapon specific sprees again.

I think assist medals are just a way to show that you still gained xp from it, its a little pointless but it should stay since there needs to be some low class medals. Plus if it has sprees it rewards players who wouldnt get credited despite doing a lot of work and it awards team work especially when its on vehicles.
I think revenge should work like the nemesis system in battlefield where if someone kills you several times without you killing them and you eventually kill them, its like a little personal vendetta killjoy.
Snapshot should be awarded if its at a good distance or is a headshot so that its way harder to get since NSing isnt always easy (well ignoring the binary rifle or high aim assist beam rifle)

Yeah. Hasn’t it been always the whole idea of medals that you really have to achieve something to get one?

Pretty much, yes. That’s been the basic criteria in the past games, medals were for something noteworthy that a player did. Getting a Double kill, that’s noteworthy; getting a regular kill, not so much.
List of Medals that were added in Halo 4/Reach that shouldn’t return:
-Generic Kill
-Comeback Kill
-Close Call
-Assist(This is effectively the same thing as the kill medal)
-Vehicle Destroy assist
-Grenade Kill
-All of the Weapon Kill medals(Minus the Splaser kill, that’s a classic and noteworthy IMO)
-Vehicle Destroyed
-Reload this(Getting a kill on someone that’s reloading isn’t impressive)
-Vehicle Kill
-Distraction
-Flyin’ High
-EMP assist(Reverting it to EMP kill criteria could work)
-Base Capture Initiated
-Capture assist
-Capture Initiation assist
-Fortification Assist
-Resupply Assist
-Turret Built
-Turret Destroyed
-Gotcha!
-Shield Door Destroyed(Why was this even thought of?)
-Survivor(I’m kinda impartial on this one, it’s close to being unimportant as you could just be AFK’ing or not helping your team while in Last Stand and end up getting a medal for it.)
I do like how the Halo 4 medals reward for assists/distractions. Some sort of reward system should be in place for support players, even if that system isn’t medals. The other day I took MVP in a BF4 Rush match with only two kills by going full combat medic. If BF had used a different reward system, I likely would have gotten last place on the leaderboards despite being pivotal in my team’s defense, and that wouldn’t be fair.
