Me complaining about other people complaining about other people.

Hey, all.
Kinda short, not really too sweet.
Had a thread idea the other day, and I’ve decided to take the time and development.
As you may or may not remembered, I created a thread titled: “Top 5 Invalid Arguments when Discussing Halo 4.”, and, as it would seem to be, it’s about… Eh, the top 5 invalid arguments when discussing Halo 4.

Consider this a spiritual successor to that.

WARNING: Mini-rant with no clear target inbound.

Lately, there has been argument over what’s considered a “Stupid idea/suggestion” on these forums. And, even though a lot of these concepts are severely flawed, you really don’t have to be a -Yoink- bag about it. Seriously, it pains me to see people go out of their way to directly insult someone for their actions. This community needs to get their -Yoink- together when it comes to the Halo 4 section.

Also, another thing I’m sick of is yet another argument being used when discussing Halo 4.

“NO! NEVUAHR! YOR EYDEUH ES TWO STUPED!!1! 342 ENDSTRIES NEEDS TO NAUGHT WAYST RESuaRCez AND FICUS ON TEH CORE ELMENTS!!1!.”

It gettin’ old.

I realize that parts the community are somewhat worried about Halo 4’s development; after all, who wouldn’t be worried? A ten year legacy handed over to another Dev team? Yeah. That’s something to be concerned about. (Not implying I don’t have faith in 343i, mind you.)
But if ALL of the time they have in their Dev cycle went into these “core elements”, your precious things such as “Sandbox”, or “customization” would be incredibly bland.
Remember how in the original Halo, where each weapon had their own unique place?
Yeah. There wasn’t much. But, for the time, it was totally acceptable.

Fast forward ten years.

Halo has evolved in such a way, where we need a very fine level of innovation. Since the original Halo, there have been many elements added in, that it makes reverting to the basics terrible. Don’t get what I’m saying? Imagine Halo 3, with the only UNSC weapons being:

AR
Magnum
Shotgun
Rocket Launcher
Sniper Rifle.

Pretty boring, right?
But, because of the things the games have added overtime, such as:

BR
SMGs
Spartan Laser
Machine gun Turret
And the Grenade Launcher,

Suddenly, your UNSC-based sandbox has doubled! It becomes much more interesting. More ways to kill. More ways to be killed.

Now, before you rage at me: I get it. Core game elements are important. Derp.
But that doesn’t mean fun things can’t be added in, does it?
So, I’ll end it off here: Next time you feel like using the phrase “Was of resources” here, please, just don’t even bother to post. What you SHOULD do is provide reasoning for objecting to a concept, and then provide CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Would you enjoy it if someone just bashed your concepts/ideas without reason? No. Nobody does.

What’s next, someone complaining about you complaining about other people complaining about other people?

> What’s next, someone complaining about you complaining about other people complaining about other people?

As a scenario? Probably.
As a thread? Title would be too long, unfortunately.

Ah, I have waited for a perfect thread like this to tell what I have to say about the community’s suggestions, but isn’t exactly worth dedicating it’s own thread. It’s completely okay to suggest features that don’t impact gameplay such as new medals, weapon skins, and that kind of stuff. But as far as suggesting gameplay mechanics is considered, it should stop. Those people who have seen me around here may at this point realize if they remember something about me, that I hardly ever suggest anything or make threads regarding suggestions. If I do suggest something, it’s most of the time a response to thread where I don’t deem the idea inherently bad. But generally, I just settle for telling what not to add in Halo 4.

Why? Simple, because suggesting ideas doesn’t make sense because, us, the coomunity hsa nothing to test these ideas. We don’t have a pre-alpha version of Halo 4 lying around that we can boot up and program the latest ideas on. And as the OP is usually the onlyone who fully gets the idea and can imagine it, but still has no proof that the idea can work, the whole discussion suddenly becomes very hypothetical and there just is no sense in it.

I’m always happy when I hear that 343i aren’t taking ideas from the community. Because to be honest, 99,9% of the gameplay mechanic suggestions I have seen here are just horrible. The rest are suggestions that either don’t impact gameplay in major way like the option to take away aim assist or new gametype or gamemode suggestions.

And although I’m not the one to decide what people can suggest and what they can’t, as an advice to everyone suggesting something:

What you shouldn’t suggest

  • new gameplay mechanics

What you should suggest

  • customization that doesn’t impact gameplay
  • custom game options
  • options that make the game more userfriendly (e.g. custom button mapping, aim smoothing on/off option, and so on)
  • map remakes
  • gametypes and gamemodes
  • new features to existing gamemodes (theater improvements, Forge improvements)

The community can suggest pretty much anything except new gameplay mechanics, still gameplay mechanics are the most common of all suggestions. But the things I listed under the “should” part are things that create better discussion. I should also note that it’s good to discuss what gameplay mechanics from the previous games could and couldn’t be in the game as those at least have something concretic to look at. But in this case it means completely unaltered and not “improved” in some weird way that no one knows nothing about.

But that’s just my opinion to make this community a bit better. I have been wanting to voice it for a while now and finally could get it all out together.

I have to agree. What started out as a valid argument as to why something probably wouldn’t happen has become the standard go to reason for why people think something shouldn’t happen.
