MCU method of stories for future games?

I was talking about Halo with a buddy of mine earlier today. We were discussing where the story and franchise could go. My buddy came up with an idea, what if Halo went the route of the MCU with the story. That is each game would have its own lead protagonist, then all the characters in those games would meet up in a big event game, bringing everyone together. I said that it’s an interesting idea, but I don’t think it should go that way, and I don’t think 343 and MS will go that way. I said that they’ll more than likely stick to the more traditional way it’s done, with a lead protagonist for a certain number of games. I think a new lead will take over after Chief in the next 10 years, and this new lead will head the main games from then on. What’d you think, and which way to do want it to go in the future?

I stated in one of your other threads that I’d be cool with them having a different protagonist for each game after Chief so I like your friend’s idea. Protagonists that oan out well with the community can even have several games.

If Halo Infinite (6) becomes a checkpoint in the series, temporarily halting John as the lead protagonist, I could definitely see this happening. The next two or three games could go this route and then have a fourth game where they all meet up. It a proven method in film, it hasn’t been done in games and could be a game-changer for video game storytelling. I like it.

I think someone predicted that Infinite will be a bit like this. I can’t remember who it was but I think they basically predicted that the SoF, Blue team, Fireteam Osiris and maybe a few others from the books would all be present.

I like the idea but I think it has one major issue.
In a movie (or at least a good movie) 100% of the movie is about story-telling and development, however in a game this isn’t feasible as you can’t focus on story whilst in the middle of a fight. Therefore, if a game had a highly complex story, which would be inevitable with so many characters IMO, the game would need to be very long in order to feasibly tell that story.
