So, Series 1 of the Halo 5: Guardians figure line has been showing up in stores like Target or TRU. I was wondering if anyone else has gotten their hands on any and what they think of them. Overall, I think this is a solid first wave of figures.
-Master Chief: Not much difference from the Halo 4 one, albeit a new paint job and a cracked visor. One of my complaints about these figures is the hands aren’t properly sculpted to hold the weapons properly, so I had to snip the trigger guard off of Chief’s rifle to let him hold it properly. Still, great figure.
-Locke: Good sculpt…but trying to get him to hold the BR with two hands is a nightmare. Also, the color scheme seems a bit off compared to the final game. Could’ve been better.
-Fred: My favorite of the wave. Great armor design, nice colors, and has the same awesome articulation as Chief. The DMR needed some snipping in order for Fred to actually hold it. Best of the wave, definitely pick it up.
-Tanaka. Another good figure. Love the armor design, the little details like her Army emblem and other markings. Has the same issues holding the DMR as Fred, so it also needed a snip-job to be held properly.
Overall, this is a solid wave, can’t wait to finally get Kelly. I’m confident this wave will sell so well that we’ll get a second wave and finally be able to complete Blue and Osiris Teams.
Weird, everyone that gets these always says they didnt have Kelly and will have to wait till later.
I just want them to release the Vale and Buck figures.

I hope this isn’t a “One per-case, end up having an incomplete team because -Yoink- toy companies think girl figures don’t sell” kind of situation.
I agree with your sentiments about the wave! I can’t wait for Kelly either, and I can’t remember where, but I think it was at Comic-Con, a representative of McFarlane Toys said that we should be getting both the full Fireteam Osiris and Blue Team either by the end of the year, or early next year. I think my favorite from the wave is also Fred. I do love Tanaka though, so its a close call. I love the Locke sculpt, but hate hate hate the articulation. In fact, I generally dislike the McFarlane Halo figure articulation. I wish they changed the design. So far, my favorite Halo figure overall is the 18-inch NECA Master Chief. The articulation on that is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

I’d buy the NECA Chief if it wasn’t so pricey. And I hope we get the rest of the teams by the end of the year. I need a figure of Spartan Buck.
I purchased a Locke figure at Target. He’s pretty good detail-wise, but the articulation is very disappointing, especially considering how well articulated the Halo: Reach McFarlane figures were. I think I’m going to skip the rest of this wave. The only other figures I really want would be the Arbiter, Buck, Linda, and maybe a Promethean Soldier. hopefully at least two of those are in the next wave.
I already have Mark IV, Mark V Chief, Halo 2 Chief, Halo 3 Chief, Halo 4 Chief, and Cloak Chief with cracked visor, so I think I might just sit him out this time. lol
The rest of Blue Team is a must, so just Fred, Linda, & Kelly. I do want Locke, but I’m afraid if I get him I’ll have to get the rest of Osiris, and that’s just a lot of money for a 30 year old to be buying toys with for himself. lol
I’m only getting Kelly and maybe Master Chief. Hopefully next wave will have Buck.
Hi guys, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been meticulously customizing these Halo 5 figures the past few weeks.
- I have Kelly about a centimeter shorter than the male spartans - Kelly, Locke, Tanaka, Fred all have +90 degree elbow articulation (Though Fred was badass out of the box, didn’t have to mod much) - Kelly & Tanaka for some reason have “chest shoulder” molding that prevents them from sticking their arms straight forwards to hold say, a pistol, with two hands without looking like a monkey. Fixed that too. (This problem was apparent on the Orange Scout figure from Halo 4 too, idk why…) - Tanaka’s knees can now bend 90 degrees - Locke/Tanaka improved hipped articulationAnyways, I think all my mods took under 5 min each and they seriously have brought these statue-eque figures from a 7/10 to a 9/10 in my eyes, damn near perfect figures. I can share info on how I did all these mods if anyone’s interested…
I love these Halo 5 figures, despite some of their weird limited articulation problems. Now, with fixed articulation, they are easily the best figures in my entire collection. Happy to share with you some images later!
