Seeing adding cut content back for modding is super exiciting. MCC will soon not just have previous halo campaigns and multiplayers but also cut content that never made to the final build. No other legacy title collection or remastered titles can match what MCC has became and will become. 343i deserve a W for this.
But plz reconsider the decision about MTX. MTX is against the promises 343i made years ago and against the halo community or even general gaming community. Plz reconsider the decision about MTX.
It’s sad, any positive announcement is now marred by this decision. Like basically, any good they do henceforth places an asterisk on that move with microtransactions in the game.
Being a fan of Halo under 343i’s ownership is very painful sometimes lol
I agree with your title, whats missing is all our og stats
This! 343 needs to know there is no “Broader audience” (whales) with MCC, it’s old school Halo fans and Halo 4 fans, yes I am both shocking isn’t it? However my point is that if 343 does this it will destroy them as a business in the long run. They’ll lose the core demographic they CURRENTLY have on MCC AND they will NOT reach that “broader audience” because IT DOESN’T EXIST!
Your assessment of the situation is Super Poggers.
343 really needs to put out a tweet saying something to the effect of
“After considering our options regarding purchasable Spartan Points as an additive feature for new players, we have decided that the possible benefits of this feature would be outweighed by unfortunate side affects that this particular feature would have on the player base.”
And maybe some follow up tweets that say something to the affect of
“While we are no longer exploring purchasable Spartan Points, we continue to investigate other options for fun items for our players to browse in a future Halo Experience shop for the ultimate Halo MCC experience.”
“We are communicating internally with our partners in the Forerunner program and beyond to come to a solution that works for everyone. While not final, proposed items include but are not limited to DLC map packs, voice mods from the Red vs Blue machinima, and more.
Stay Tuned”
This would probably be the smart thing for 343 to do. They can get take the off ramp and get away from microtransactions and open the door for an opportunity to provide purchasable content that has actual value. They really need to learn from the Bungie era Halo games when it comes to the value of extra content.
If they do this in tandem with some of my previous suggestions for earning Spartan points and experience points, then I think that would make a lot of Halo players happy. Which means more player engagement and more money. And we know 343 is obsessed with both.
Honestly, it would be a little out of character for them to address this at all. I expect radio silence until they implement it and then dismissal of any concerns of that implementation.
It might sound pessimistic, but, look at Halo Infinite. There was a poll on collision which was a 9:1 split in favour of it being added. This was addressed publicly but they dismissed any notion of adding it despite there being an overwhelming majority.
This whole MTX debacle is coming at a time where MCC is out of the spotlight completely. Infinite overshadows MCC, sadly, with all of its issues so there is a bigger community focus there.
But that aside, if they did come out and say that, I feel they should also still emphasise other ways they will work on progression in MCC to help ease the grind they spoke of previously. That would restore some faith, especially if they are transparent about how they “missed the mark” the first time.
I still feel like DLC map packs are not the way to go, they sorta go against the modern philosophy of MP games, now. They split the player-base and 343i would have to do additional work on the matchmaking composer to integrate support for that. Plus, the games are super cheap so any map pack would be around the price of/more expensive than the games (when they are discounted, especially).
I understand that you’re trying to find a compromise to appease both sides but honestly they’re never going to be happy. They’re always going to want more and more. So I really don’t think we should try and appease them. After all, they are a business. If they want business they should cater to their customer base, not the other way around.
My suggestion is this: add more free content to MCC which relates to Infinite (this could be existing assets in Infinite). Do some sort of crossover events or such and try and lure MCC players into your cash shop in Infinite. Like kinda what they just did with Fall Guys, but with their own game.
It’s better to have a split playerbase than NO playerbase, MTX ALWAYS result in the later.
But we already have a unified playerbase in MCC because all previous map packs are included. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. The game doesn’t need Map Packs or MTX imo.
I think when approaching monetisation, they should keep that to their F2P game and try funneling players towards that. Keep MCC unscathed and intact.
I get what you’re saying though, things were better back on 360. Games were complete. Map packs were nice but you could still enjoy the game without them and if you bought them you were funding development of additive, worthwhile content.
Unfortunately though, microtransactions have been proven to be way more lucrative which is why so many games are chasing after them. If they add them to MCC, it will be a big loss. I wish more people cared but the reality is that they don’t, sadly
This is true but Microtransactions also almost always result in little to no kind of actual quality game design, get in the way of good game design, and 9 times out of 10 do NOT go to funding more content for the future, they just go right into the publishers pockets.
It’s true but sadly, 343i is a profit focused company. That’s why they are constantly taking about appealing to a broader audience because with that, they think, is the potential for more money. Imo, this line of thinking hurts the integrity of the game/IP though
It also hurts the longevity and the current playerbase.
