Am i the only one experiencing constant losses and players who keep refusing to play right out of the gate?
I feel like the balancing system for multiplayer has gone so far out of control. Every game, and I’m not kidding when i say every game, has always been :
Teammates either playing extremely poor or not playing at all or quit instantly, regardless if it has been through a network issue or then leaving the game.
Enemy teams decimating me and making blowout wins or leads as soon as the game start.
Network failures that even resulted me getting banned despite not getting into the game.
This has been going on for months and as of today, broke me. The game that I’ve held near to my heart for over a decade now, to me, is no longer consider fun.
This has occured in both social and rank and always team games, cause no one wants to play FFA anymore.
Until this is even considered an issue, I wont be playing Mcc in the near future. You’ve lost a very dedicated fan today.
Ps. Thanks for the hour ban, I love it when I’m down 20-0 in Halo 4 because I’m getting squashed.
What would you recommend as the solution the problem? From what I’ve read from Josh Menke on Twitter Halo MCC’s SBMM drops off quickly in favor of finding a match faster. Would you rather the search queue time increase in favor of more balanced matches?
My last string of matches has been pretty rough. Even in ranked blow outs are pretty common despite the tighter parameters.
A skilled based matchmaking has always been ok in my books and I believe its what in use for mcc right now, although however its been set has been very flawed.
If anything, there should be an option on where to go into games whether against parties or solo players, like how Call of duty used to do it with mw2. This would help develop the lone wolf mechanic of games, or if there is simply no friends to play with
Rank has never really meant anything honestly, as the highest ranked player can sometimes be the worse player and the other way around with new players. As tough as this maybe, part of the matchmaking should be based on players performances of recent games.
I’m ok finding the first 8 players the matchmaking can find, but also i would like the game can separates them equally in 2 good teams, but i think that the team composing is just random.
The problem started when 1.5-2 years ago they removed the party restrictions. I even made fresh accounts and would match a team of 3 or 4 in Halo 3 social slayer (4v4) on my first game who are all at minimum veterans and general level as far as true skill. This change made the game virtually unplayable casually because every other or few games you run into stacked teams and just get curb stomped. I prefer to play solo and wish they would at least re-add restrictions on teams of 3 or more to not match solo players.
I wanted to add that I think a lot more people would search social slayer like they used to before the restrictions were removed. I remember people were grinding it day and night (like myself) and once the party restrictions were removed most people stopped searching social because it disincentivized playing solo as most people are just hopping on for a few quick games after work or on a quick/short break and aren’t trying to put together a full squad just so they can have a decent experience in matchmaking without getting decimated for the majority of their games by a team of 3 or 4. I know that I and lots of my friends would be playing a LOT more Halo MCC if the solo experience wasn’t miserable. When they removed the party restrictions, a lot of us mostly stopped playing the game or would just play very rarely or play ranked. Just my two cents because I would like to see a revival of the game, but I feel like until there is a good/fairer social experience for casual gamers
(who imo are mostly solo players) we won’t see that happening. The teams that search effectively clear out the play list at night / people attempt to wait for them to find a game (amusingly I noticed many of the teams wait for one another to find a match so as to not match each other so they can stomp on the non-teams/solo players). For people who aren’t veterans of the game like myself they’ll just be getting stomped by teams for at least 30-50% their matches and move onto other games and never come back (if they’re searching at night it could be nearly 100% of their games matching teams!).
I’m gonna be honest, the last few days of Halo 3’s multiplayer were some of the best and most balanced matches I’ve had in years. It hurt when they shut it down, because I knew I’d have to go back to the Mcc.
Just today I hoped on after a period of not playing, (I took a break because I kept getting curb stomped after curbstomp after curbstomp) today didn’t go any better. Like you said, OP…Teammates just standing there, not going for power weapons, and not contributing much at all. It was a string of blow out. I lost all motivation to play quickly.
This is even worse in big team, because I always, and I have kept track, I always get the team that doesn’t go for power weapons or vehicles. The tank and wraith on Valhalla are always left where they are, like people don’t even know they exist. Even worse, the enemy manages to get 3 spartan lasers.
I’m not complaining that I’m bad or they need to fix the system. I just need to know I’m not the only one suffering these horrible matches. Maybe someone can explain to me why this is so prevalent?
So, a few weeks ago, I noticed something odd. I had been playing all week, but only popped the “Win 3 social games” challenge on Monday afternoon. I thought that was odd, because while I had had a fairly strong losing streak, I didn’t think I had only won 3 times all week.
Luckily for me, I’ve taken to recording all my games, and decided to do a quick audit.
I had played 60 games that week since Wednesday when the challenges reset. Exactly 60. And had won 3.
Well, I thought I had a few days where I hadn’t been playing my best, so I decided to check the footage to see if my performance had been bad enough that it wasn’t a surprise to see this many losses. It was all slayer, all the time, so I focused on k/d spread. I picked 10 games at random, being sure to get at least one game from each day.
+10. +18. +7. +14. +23. +31. +8. +20. +34. -8.
The only win was the +31.
Yeah, IDK what they did with the team balancing, but it’s broken.
It’s prevalent because 343 removed party matchmaking 2-3 weeks prior to the MCC PC release. Party matchmaking prevented teams of 3 and 4 to match 4 solo players. Prior to 343 removing the matchmaking restrictions on teams of 3 and 4 in matchmaking there were very few quit outs in comparison and everyone generally played the match (in social 4v4). Now quitting out is basically every game against the teams of 3 or 4… it’s not uncommon for the entire team to quit out or for people to go AFK (away from their controller or keyboard) because there’s no fun going against a full team of experienced players / veterans (who were generally all at least rank 50 at some point in the past while everyone else on your team is a true rank of 1-10 generally).
I don’t see this so much in social but forsure in ranked playlists. I think we need a real ranked re-haul; give us the ability to search multiple ranked playlists at once just like in social, give us custom skins for earning rank 25, and special nameplates for reaching rank 50. Also we need to leave the ranked rotational hoppers in the full list permanently along with the aforementioned feature of mixtape matchmaking for ranked just like we have the Match Composer now for social. These QoL features combined with things like Party Matchmaking and decreasing the amount of wins it takes to reach a 50 would drastically increase player count back to the ranked modes again.
It’s because they removed party matchmaking. So you’re literally going up against a team of four or three the majority of the time who are basically sweats and general level. Then your own teammates are probably true rank 1 or so. I can also pull similar K/Ds as you, those are the games where your team are bots generally and the other team are mostly bots or nowhere near your skill level. The word bot just means poorly or unskilled player. But the biggest issue with matchmaking is definitely the removal of party matching. It’s very easy to lose 100% of your games against teams. In fact, it would be rare to win against them and I have won solo but it’s still close to impossible since they usually are running with four people at a rank of 50 when it comes to true skill.
After a week of basically sitting out, this problem has not got better. After seeing my brother play, Its still the same issue of players quitting out of the gate, players not even playing or playing extremely poorly and people skunking him, despite positive performances
Its not a matter of the better team won, i get that there are players who are better than me, but theres also another point where your constantly being put in unfair situations.
Its more than a recurring thing, almost a normal thing now and its disgusting and unfair to casual players.
Just played three games of KOTH. First two were against two separate 4-player parties. The last one had one enemy have a 41-0 KD, because apparently every enemy team has to have that ONE player who grabs a sniper, and gets a Running Riot in about 25 seconds.
So yeah, make of that what you will.
Just played three games of Big Team.
Game 1: 100-21
Game 2: Game crash, rejoin, over half of team quits.
Game 3: 100-35
So how long until MY team does the steamrolling?
If we ignore the team matching issue (which I agree is an issue) the main problem we’re running into is a lack of population.
You have a game from 2007 with a few thousand players online at a time. Its not 2008/2009 where you have a million players online to pick a nice balanced team every time.
Even if teams of 4 match against teams of 4, I can assure you’ll still see mismatched teams because there’s a limited population and the games have to be picked from the two ends of the skill curve.
The removal of party matching is what drove everyone away from the game. I know large chunks of actual good players and none of us touch social for that reason (not to mention the majority dropped the game altogether and most just watch people stream the game instead). Bottom line -matchmaking is a miserable, terrible, not fun experience and none of the good players are going to bother with the game in the current state. You are left with teams and minimally skilled players or completely unskilled players playing the game in social for the most part (if there are any good players searching social solo they’re in an overwhelming minority).
