MCC Season 8 Feedback

Here are some features I’d like to be added:

Add the option to remove motion blur in Halo 3 (I find it pretty distracting)
Add third person skulls to the games that can support them (also add it as a custom games option)
Add a rent a server program
Add firefight to the custom games browser
Add more Grassroots/event nameplates to the exchange
Add Rhine back to the exchange either in individual pieces or entirely
Do more 2xp events please, we haven’t had any since March 18, 2020 (According to Steam News)

We have not had a challenge event since Recon Slayer in October 2020 and fan favourite events like the Yappening have not returned this year, I’d really like to see more events return in 2022.

I’m trying to play social BTB and I don’t understand why 343 let’s parties of 8 go around stomping on teams of randoms.

That is absolutely not fun to play!

I hope 343 doesn’t let parties of 12 go around stomping teams of randoms in Infinite’s BTB because that would be even worse!

MCC (ALL HALOS)

  • PC Splitscreen - Ability to run a custom game with out Anti-Cheat (Modded lobbies for Custom Games Browser / Splitscreen mod)
Hooking my PC up to a TV and playing with 4 friends on Custom Games is my dream (without using the NucleusCoop Mod)

I agree, it’s like, are they going to be political? If so that makes me vomit and takes SOME of the fun out of MCC for me. (Not being Whitney, just saying the views of a company can tarnish the enjoyment of a product for sure)

> This post has been edited by a moderator. Please refrain from making posts that do not contribute to the topic at hand.*Original post. Click at your own discretion. Looks like 343 decided to go woke this season. You know what they say go woke you go broke won’t be playing any mcc during season 8 if this is the case. Don’t bring wokism into my video games.

And I just want the helmet they showed was coming.

While I appreciate bug fixes , generally speaking 19gb updates of texture packs or any of that stuff don’t interest me. I just want to be able to play multiplayer on Linux via proton. Can we please get the EAC API changes merged ?. Please

> This is super silly and super niche, but if Halo Reach gets weapon skins, *here’s an obscure Assault Rifle skin from a promo that was never implemented.*In line with the more silly helmets of Season 8, the eagle featured on the Commando helmet in this render would also make a cute addon.

Wow that looks great!!!

Reach was my favorite (came out at the right time, ya know) and I reallllllly want Reach to get skins before they stop support and hand it over to modders.

Played some H3 btb earlier and some sniper shots that should have killed didnt, so i went to theatre and checked. This is what happened at the enemy’s position https://youtu.be/wd-Bruoj99c

Well, just FYI, the update was large so it could cut down on the total storage of MCC on your HDD. Can’t remember by how much though but that’s why.

My feedback is simple i Don’t like that changes made to Customization in reach. Change the gender selection back to how it was. Don’t try to change the older halo games just preserve them and add to them with new content on top of the original game. But leave the original game intact underneath the additions. I don’t care about it being a new thing for infinite. But please just preserve these games as they were on the original consoles.

could you just tell us if the tearful blackguard bishop helmet was axed or not i dont want to get my hopes up

I agree. I want the old body selector thing also and the Bishop helmet, pelase!

Yes, tell us why it wasn’t here and please add it in.

Two bugs I encountered, I filed a support on the latter.

Installation of update: My xbox required FULL installation of the game again for some reason. I had played days earlier so it was definitely already installed (e.g. my update was 113GB). This was a huge inconvenience for time and the hit on my internet!

Halo 3: ODST Firefight: In matchmaking on Lost Platoon, we were unable to progress past the first wave. Spent nearly 10 minutes searching for an enemy before enough people quit that I could do so without penalty. This is the only ODST firefight game I have played since season 8 dropped, and Reach firefight worked properly for me

This is the (revised) text of the letter I sent to DICE about bots in Battlefield. It’s a different company, but I’m sure the same concepts apply here:

Hello! My name is Christian Bethel. I am an -Yoink!- college student who lives in the USA who is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Application Development. I am a huge fan of your company, as you have created the seminal Battlefield series and two successful revivals of the Battlefront series. I have derived hundreds of hours of enjoyment from these games over the past nine years, from the gripping singleplayer stories to the explosive multiplayer. I am glad players can experience everything the Frostbite engine has to offer, along with true realism and authenticity in each game. Truly, Battlefield is one of the quintessential first-person shooter franchises on the market.

Unfortunately, for those playing the games on console, this gives rise to a crippling issue that has plagued the franchise for years.

I am referring to the lack of offline multiplayer support in every release since Battlefield 2142. There is neither Splitscreen nor Singleplayer Offline Bots to ensure the titles’ longevity. This is a problem for players on console, as many have voiced their displeasure at having to repeatedly pay an online subscription to play the multiplayer component of the various Battlefield titles. The issue is for me a taxing one- I come from a low income family and live off of disability checks issued by my government’s Social Security Administration. This check is used to pay for taxes and utilities, so it is often a rarity for me to afford even a three-month Xbox Live Gold subscription (I play on Xbox). Ironically, I am able to enjoy matches by myself or with a friend on the two latest Battlefront games, as they support both splitscreen and singleplayer offline bots. I am writing this email to request that the teams at DICE responsible for the inclusion of splitscreen and singleplayer offline bots in Battlefront and Battlefront II, as well as the team at the Search for Extraordinary Experiences Division tasked with developing the self-learning AI for Battlefield 1 come together and collaborate on an overhaul of past and present Battlefield releases so that they support Offline Splitscreen Play, Singleplayer Offline Bots, and Offline Bots in Splitscreen. I have several reasons why I am asking this of you, and as such I will take the time to explain them in detail in this email.

Bots/Splitscreen Keep Games Alive
It is a common fact that the majority of gameplay modes that feature bots and splitscreen are often played offline. This is vital for players who grow an attachment to a game and wish to continue playing it even after its life cycle has ended. As with the Battlefield franchise, the early PC titles have multiplayer that can be played indefinitely despite the shutdown of their servers due to the inclusion of bots. Many players still have games such as Battlefield 1942 installed on their PCs due to bot support, and game franchises like Halo are highly successful due to its Splitscreen support. With full Offline Bot and Splitscreen support, the longevity and immortality of the title in question is ensured.

Bots/Splitscreen Enable Play For Those Without Internet
As mentioned before, most bot/splitscreen-friendly gameplay modes are played offline, which is a much needed boon to those who are for some reason or another unable to utilize an Internet connection, though bot support is more ideal, as only one player is required to play with bots (in most cases). These reasons can vary, but two main reasons involve the strength of the Internet signal itself and the cost set forth by the respective Internet Service Provider. The latter reason is especially problematic among players who live in rural areas of the United States of America. With Full Offline Bot/Splitscreen Support, players from around the world can play a game at anytime, with or without a connection to the Internet. Players who play offline with bots also enjoy games free of lag, cheaters/hackers, and obnoxious players who barrage other players with profanities, racial/homophobic slurs, and maternal insults.

Bots Positively Affect How A Player Learns How To Play
With the addition of bot support, players will be able to effectively learn the basic and core mechanics of the game. In many cases, bots are present in a game’s tutorial (e.g. Battlefront II) to show a player how to play a game. It should also be mentioned that many games with bot support have a ‘Training’ mode for practicing against bot opponents in preparation for online play against real people. A significant portion of players cite this feature as a positive aspect of Offline Bot Support and affirm that Training modes which feature bots allow beginners to smoothly transition into playing the online multiplayer aspect of a game.

Bots/Splitscreen Allow For Extensive Cutomization
Many multiplayer-centric games permit customization, mainly alteration of built-in game modes. ‘Custom Game’ modes in which this is performed are played both online and offline, however offline custom games are typically played among in-person friends. Bots are no exception to this customization, albeit the only options available for customization are often the amount of bots present in a match and their difficulty. Players who speak in defense of offline bot support make a point to indicate this capability and offer praise for it, as built-in game types come off as restrictive.

Bots/Splitscreen Are Fun!
This reason on my list is easily the most critical of them all: playing with offline bots is fun. *It allows players to undergo a reprieve from the seemingly endless grind and fight for first place that is online multiplayer. Bots give players who struggle with the game’s mechanics to fully experience chaotic fast-paced multiplayer games in such a way that they can know what it is like to significantly contribute to a team or accumulate kills, dominate the enemy, and achieve victory. Various players report the online portion of games like Battlefield are ‘toxic’ due to the overabundance of cheaters/hackers and ‘tryhards’. With Full Offline Bot/Splitscreen support, this problem is eliminated almost immediately and more people become interested in buying the game.*With these reasons listed, I hope the proper parties will at least read this email and take what I – and scores of other players- have said into consideration for future Battlefield titles. As the aforementioned Battlefront and Battlefront II have bot support and utilize the Frostbite engine, I would assume the same resources could be applied to previous and future Battlefield installments. That being said, I eagerly await the announcement of the newest Battlefield title and anticipate it will garner much success. Thank you very much in advance for your time and consideration.

343 Industries, please consider devising some method of implementing singleplayer offline bots into each of the games in the Master Chief Collection to allow for singleplayer offline multiplayer. Thank you.

After posting my Season 6 and 7 feedback, as well as flight feedback for Season 8, it’s been really cool to see all of these community requested features make it to the game! The Halo CE classic HUD comes to mind. However, with what Season 8 brought to the table, I still have some old ideas, and now some more new ones on what could be added in the future:

Campaign

  • All-When playing with campaign scoring or timing enabled, make it so there’s an option to exit out of the campaign after playing a mission. Currently the post-mission stats will force you into the next mission after exiting the post-game stats
-While it’s not necessarily feasible right now, dedicated server netcode for all campaigns
-Restoring all original credits sequences (all of them are part of the original identity of each game, whilst Reach gets completely gutted by a really early cut)

  • Halo: Reach-Use Halo 3’s Time/Scoring HUD element instead of Halo 4’s as it fits more stylistically
-Elevators like in Sword Base and New Alexandria cause the player and AI to float when ascending unlike in legacy Reach

  • Halo: CE-Have a real-time music toggle between anniversary and classic just like sound effects as they were added in the last update
-The last bit where the monitor is shown leaving the wreckage of the Installation 04 doesn’t play
-Official support for 3-4 player coop campaign

  • Halo 2-Official support for 3-4 player coop campaign

  • Halo 3: ODST-Change the HUD for campaign scoring/timing to be the yellow HUD color instead of the blue one

  • Halo 4-Allow use of skins in campaign like in Halo: CE and Halo 3 (it might be best if the behavior works like in those games when picking up a weapon, but just for campaign)

Multiplayer

  • Halo: CE-There are still issues surrounding many of the weapons’ performances in this game i.e. Magnum, Shotgun, Plasma Rifle, etc.
-Magnum spread is still tied to framerate

  • Halo 2: Classic-There are various hit-registration issues that I’m sure the community would love to see fixed
-Display player emblem on armor like in legacy

  • Halo 2: Anniversary-More developer made maps are probably best made for this because this game only has 7 total

  • Halo 3-Make default custom game option Team Slayer or Slayer instead of 2v2 Hardcore TS

Misc/Other

  • All-Display player emblem on Ue4 Customization preview and not just in game
-Allow a toggle between HCE and HCEA (H2 and H2A also) for the menu music
-Allow different service tags for each game as H3 and ODST only allowed 3 characters when Reach and H4 allowed for 4
-Change the UI for Campaign mission selection/multiplayer map selection for each game to match the custom game browser UI for selecting maps (vertical lists are much better for missions/maps in my opinion)
-The ability to matchmake campaigns with something like a match composer
-Customizable menu backgrounds as potential unlocks for achievements or something similar
-Since poses are a planned feature, allow players to choose one of their games’ customizations to show as a preview on their profile
-In the menus, background music customization could be really cool as the main menu only has 3 tracks that play in the same order and it gets fairly repetitive
-Game by game loading screens, where there is an option to use legacy ones
-FOV behavior option - what I mean by this is changing FOV affects how you see your legs differently per game. In Reach, 3, and ODST, changing your FOV to a higher number won’t change how large your legs appear when you look down. In Halo 2 Classic, Halo 2 Anniversary Multiplayer, and Halo 4 changing FOV drastically affects how large your legs look when you look down. What I’m proposing is that there is an option per game to how FOV will make your first-person legs look when you look down

  • Halo: Reach-Spartan Height Increase in Ue4 Customization Menu to match all other player preview models
-New Visor Colors + Weapon Skins
-Red Visor Color ala Jorge and Jun from campaign
-Smoother, less rigid wrist attachment like Carter’s right wrist in campaign
-Left/Right Utility + Wrist option for customization
-Piece by piece Elite customization and elite light customization because some pieces wouldn’t match at all
-Some weapons like the DMR, Concussion Rifle, and Fuel Rod Cannon don’t fire at the same rate they used to in legacy Reach
-Since stances are a planned feature, add the player settings DMR stance from legacy Reach

  • Halo: CE-A secondary color option (or even tertiary) to show in team games or something similar to the other Halo games

  • Halo 2-Any kind of customization update for either classic or anniversary. Visor colors, weapon skins, new armor if possible, more elite customization from H2 campaign
-Have the Heavy Price Paid/Punishment menu track play in all Halo 2 menus rather than just the Cross-Game Playlists menu
-The Halo 2 map editor for classic (with this, some assets like the cut Falcon, GPMG, SSMG, Shadow, and more could also be implemented)

  • Halo 3-Add the Movement music track back to the Halo 3 menus to mirror the legacy game
-Allow an option to have Halo 3 Mythic menu tracks play on Halo 3 menus
-In forge, increase object cap and make object cap visible as there’s no way to tell when you’re out of objects - currently you will run out of objects before getting anywhere near your budget
-All in all, I feel like Halo 3 has had the most attention with the amount of time in resources spent on it, I think any other game in the collection at this point should see this level of attention going forward

  • Halo 3: ODST-Any way to use the plethora of H3 skins in customization
-New skins for SSMG, Automag, and Brute Plasma Rifle
-Ability to change helmet, shoulders, chest, arms, legs, back accessory, visor, character, and voice independently
-Add fireteam raven armors and/or characters to ODST customization
-Since the flood are a planned future addition, it could pave the way for the classic Halo 3 magnum and SMG to work in ODST

  • Halo 4-A proper Ue4 view for weapon skins rather than an image
-Techsuit customization (maybe gen1 or just gen2 untinted)
-More standard visor colors (it irks me that there’s no golden middle ground like in previous games
-Add shortened Green and Blue and To Galaxy music tracks that were in legacy H4 to the H4 menus
    -Spartan Ops matchmaking
-A scoring system for Spartan Ops
-Weapon skins for power weapons/non-loadout weapons
-Implement Champion’s bundle forearms and shoulders into first person viewmodels as they get defaulted to Recruit arms and Warrior shoulders in first person (strangely they get defaulted to the Master Chief’s armor in Spartan Ops)
-Since poses are a planned feature, take stances from legacy Halo 4

Since this is the last major season for mcc, I figure this is the most opportune time to give my feedback on the overall state of MCC during season 8 not to be confused with season 8’s changes, that bother me in particular and would like to see updated in the future smaller patches to come:

  • Game: All - Mode: CampaignThe new campaign customizations toggle is neat and all, but I’d like it to be brought to the next level. A majority of the fun in customization is customizing your character, but the toggle only enables weapon and vehicle skins as it is. Especially with all the new customizations that have been added lately, it would be awesome to have officially supported character customizations in campaign. If halo 3 is an obstacle for this, just force the players’ spartan customizations if they’re the host, and their elite customizations as guests. Halo 3 has gotten the most customization, as of late, but this is bittersweet for pve players, since halo 3 has no pve modes that use custom characters like Reach and 4, that have similar levels of customization.
Yes, I’m even referring to halo 1 and 2. They might not have a lot of customization available, but using the custom colors in campaign would be neat. (also we dont have a toggle for odst, and that would be lovely)

  • Game: Halo Reach, Halo 3 - Mode: AllA while back we were teased with a hint that reach elites would be getting mix and match customization. Us elite fans haven’t forgotten. Additionally, the fantasy themed armors introduced in season 8 would look incredible on elites, whose culture is much more fantasy-esque. I know it’s not just a copy and paste deal, and the armors would need to be drastically altered to fit on elites, but personally? I think it would be WELL worth it. A knight armor and chainmail clad elite would be badass.

  • Game: Halo Reach, Halo 4, Halo 2 Anniversary MP - Mode: AllHalo 3 got all the love whenever a new update introduced a new armor or skin. The rest of the games featuring customization got little to no such attention, despite having the same format of per body part customization. I think these new additions should be universal. Season 8 showed that some pieces could be converted to other games, as Reach received the new season 8 helmets, but giving reach the rest of the armors as well, and for 2A and 4 also, and in addition, releasing the mark 7 helmet universally, adding undersuit options to 4 like there are for 3… Basically, there’s a ton of new additions made to specific games that would also be a great boon to every other game that didn’t get the same updates.

  • Game: All - Mode: AllIt’s great to have viewmodel customization at last. It’s great and i dont want to try and downplay the fact that it’s great, but at times it feels a little too broad. Many weapons in the same type have wildly different viewmodels and settings that work for one weapon may not necessarily work for others. My advice to solve this is to add an “advanced” button under each weapon category, which brings up seperate options for each individual weapon within that category, so you can, for example, change the shotgun to be farther from the screen than the assault rifle.

  • Game: Halo CE Anniversary - Mode: CampaignEver since launch, the game has had an issue with shadows, which was less noticeable on the 360 and the screens we had available at the time, but now it stands out a lot on PC monitors. Especially on the first person viewmodels. The shadows get very pixelated and unnatural looking, as if the shadow is being cast through a grate. Some lighting fixes for the anniversary graphics would be very welcome.

  • Game: All - Mode: AllMouse and Keyboard controls have always been flawed in a few ways in the MCC. They have DEFINITELY improved by a significant margin as its gotten updated, but there are still a few nagging issues worth fixing. First, vehicle controls are still incredibly lacking. Almost every single control option specific to vehicles has 5 other functions tied to it. Meaning you can’t do things like seperate “secondary fire” from “boost” so if you want to have a natural feeling boost on a ghost you’ll bind it to shift, but then in a tank shift becomes fire the coaxial machine gun, which is not great. This is especially bad on air vehicles, where each game has wildly different controls, and in each of those games, the flying vehicles have drastically different controls from land vehicles, which makes setting up key bindings for vehicles where transitioning between land and air vehicles, or between different games is very difficult. Another big issue reloading dual wielded weapons in halo 2 and 3. In halo 2, the reload button reloads both weapons. In halo 3 there NEEDS to be both a left and and right hand reload. For people who prefer one method over another, this is pretty frustrating. It would be great to be able to bind left and right hand reload to the same button in halo 3, and to seperate left hand and right hand reload in halo 2.

  • Game: All - Mode: CampaignI understand the idea of the vehicle’s driver determining the skin that is applied to the vehicle, but in campaign, with customizations enabled, if a marine drives after a player has applied their skin to a vehicle, it will revert back to the default skin. If there isn’t a way to fix this so it retains the last applied skin, maybe the friendly AI can be changed to use the host’s skins.

  • Game: All - Mode: CampaignThis might be a long shot, but I’m hoping that, some day, the original game specific loading screens for campaign can be reintroduced. The original credits sequences would also be amazing, but there’s probably some legal reasons they aren’t there, and modders might slap those in once mod tools are fully realized.

I’ve seen this a few other times with challenges, but the headshot challenges not including all games is kind of infuriating. The challenging I’m talking about is the Montage Starter Kit which you need 500 headshots to complete. The only games allowed are H2, H3,and H4. Personally I love all those games but leaving out HR and HCE doesn’t seem far to people that enjoy those two games more.

It’s because you have to use a BR for them to count.

In the seasonal challenges, my “Montage Starter Kit” challenge is not tracking my headshots. I’ve checked multiple times, and even after restarting my game it won’t count any of my headshots.
