MCC S8 a taste of what's to come in infinite?

In case you’ve missed the new Canon fodder issue chech this link

For a brief overview of what I’m going to talk bout see quote below

> If you’ve been keeping an eye on elements from Halo Infinite, you may have noticed a unique armor type that has been said to sit in a distinctly different “branch” of lore. While we’ll of course eventually be diving into the “Fractures” content that you’ll be finding within Halo Infinite, that chat is still a bit further down the road. However, today we want to talk about a very similar experimental endeavor that’s slated to slide into Halo: The Master Chief Collection when Season 8 makes its way to the game anthology’s shores in the near-ish future.

In the quote they refer to the samurai-ish armor we saw in the MP trailer of Halo Infinite and the fracture cores that are going to feature these types of armor. As understand this means that a fractured core is a specific theme in which you have multiple pieces of armour in that same theme which you can mix and match within that core.

Now in the season 8 update of the MCC we’ll get some knight-ish and viking-ish armour sets for Halo 3 and the helmets can also be used in Halo: Reach (please refer to the link above for images) and I wonder if this is a taste of what is to come, armour style wise, for Infinite. These armours are wildly different from what we’re used to and I see mixed responses in my friend groups and threads on Reddit. So I was wondering: What are your thoughts about these types of armour in Infinite and/or in general?

I meant to post this in the Infinite forums. Can a mod move it there if you see this?

I sure as heck hope not. It’s not lore friendly. Just my two cents though.

Neither was the Haunted helmet, but apparently that passes.

That’s a small detail compared to making an entire suit of armor.

So? You’ve been complaining non-stop about the new armor being “not lore friendly,” and I’m pointing out how H:R already has a helmet that is also “not lore friendly.” But, because it’s just the helmet, it is “lore friendly?” Actually, since the helmets of these new armor sets are also coming to Reach, you would be totally down with them, since that means they’ll also be “small details.”

Now all you’re doing is twisting my words to suit your agenda. ONE helmet is nothing compared to an entire suit of armor and to compare the two would be asinine. Small details are one thing but big details that take a lot of time and resources to create said armors are another entirely.

Totally supporting your opinion.

It’s one thing if it’s just ONE helmet which you also can just get when you get last rank. It’s one object. Not a whole delivery…

Haunted helmet still felt like Halo though.

Haunted and Mister Chief have shown that the lore-friendly ship has sailed. I don’t have a problem with it, don’t use the armor if you don’t want it.

I don’t want these in Infinite or MCC. They don’t fit the game at all and look like armors from a completely different franchise. I wasn’t a fan of the samurai armor in Infinite, but at least it somewhat resembles an exaggerated spartan armor. But the one’s in MCC look completely out of place. Now if they want to remove some of the more ridiculous parts of the helmets and slap a visor on there, I could live with that, but the way they are now… no thank you, sir.

Oh geez I actually looked at them now and they’re wayyyyyy too out there. Not Halo at all. Hopefully there’s a toggle to not see them in matchmaking. I guess it’s cool that they’re taking risks and trying new things, but that doesn’t mean all of them will stick.

This should probably be in the infinite forums, but so long as they are armors I can take somewhat seriously and there is somewhat of a consistent artstyle, then I will be fine with them. I think these knight, viking, ancient Roman/Greek armors will be good for Infinite if that is as wacky as they get. So long as it is nothing dumb like oversized pumpkin helmets or edgy clown costumes or 80s horror movie crossovers, etc.

I think that this types of armor and visual content like customization options may enrich the visual verity for all players, I mean, I really loved all the new kind of armor that we can see that 343 will bring to us on MCC, I was hoping something like that and finally they give us that. The same thing will happen to infinite, there are a lot of people who likes the Yoroi armor, and that left a good impact in the halo community, for that reason, we can wait for get that kind of armor on Infinite, I’m glad they let their creativity flow without limiting themselves to the cannon and lore of the game.

And Hayabusa armor from Halo 3

There’s a difference between a helmet like haunted, which was a fun variation on the pilot helmet, and a literal plague doctor mask which would look more at home in Assassin’s Creed. I actually kind of like the plague mask, and a few others, but I’ll add to the people saying this new armor is too far from Halo’s established visual identity, 90% of them moreseo than any of the Halo online armors, IMO. I mean, the fact that we’re getting knights and wizards before we get any sort of Hardlight armor, or Helioskrill/Prefect 2.0, just seems a little odd to me. There is a ton of untapped, but still wacky, potential to be found in Halo’s established aesthetic, I wish 343 would run that well dry, first.

I feel like MCC is the testing grounds for Infinite. Hopefully the feedback will deter their minds to not bring this kinda stuff to Infinite.

> I feel like MCC is the testing grounds for Infinite. Hopefully the feedback will deter their minds to not bring this kinda stuff to Infinite.

uh yoroi armor says its happing plus I point to haunted and mister chief helms they aren’t canon and your fine with that

The old stuff passes because it’s old.

Anyway I think this new stuff is super cool and I’m very happy to have it here.

I firmly believe that rule of cool should have no place here. There is a well defined visual aesthetic that Halo 3 sticks to very well. I had issue with the Anvil Halo Online helmets and armors and I take issue with these ones too.

“J-just turn it off. You’re e-e-entitled.”
Yeah that would be an option if 343 didn’t openly slap down the idea for season-based filters. There’s items I DO appreciate and that I think fit very well.

As for “X Helmet doesn’t fit here, haunted this and that.”
Those helmets were special, Security has roots in Bungie’s game Marathon, you were a security guard. The helmet looks like his. Duh. Hayabusa is a Ninja Gaiden reference and only a single armor set that before hackers leaked the order in which you jumped through the rings to get the IWHBYD skull, would have been pretty rare considering. Haunted was a reward for “finishing” Reach’s multi-player, a feat that wasn’t particularly easy as it was a grindfest. Plus, duh, skulls? That thing Halo does??? These items have spirit. There’s weight behind them unlike, S8 which is just “heh heh wouldn’t this look epic and cool for the kiddies?”

These new helmets and armors, in typical 343 fashion, feel ham-fisted and way too contentious. I don’t like them and I’ll certainly be turning off everything. Shame 343 is deciding to be so obstinate with the whole endeavor. Especially seeing as the extra, very nice, Reach armors are tied to these garbage ones. Kind of a poor decision seeing as they were in the base game just never implemented. I think a special case can and should be made for them.

I feel pretty strongly that most people’s tunes will change really quickly once 343 adds something that they don’t personally like.

As for Infinite, the gameplay won me over and I’ll be playing it regardless. Plus, to me, Infinite is 343s product. They made it from the ground up. I take more offense with them scrambling Halo 3, a Bungie game, than playing with their own.
