I finished Halo: Reach for the first time in MCC last night and maybe the 14th time overall. I thought we could share our feelings about this version.
The game is great and looks gorgeous in 4K HDR. Nostalgia came hitting so hard on me. Still is the best game in the series imho.
I feel like they reskinned the textures so they would look 4K compliant, or maybe it is completely original material and the old resolution just couldn’t allow us to enjoy it.
I just love this game.
BUT I feel some things are not quite as they used to be…
Allied AI is the same, can’t argue with that. Kat almost threw me off a ledge multiple times and they won’t really help in combat. Except maybe for a few times where they would surprise me by surviving (one civilian in Nightfall and some marines in NA hospital).
I feel like the Legendary difficulty is way easier than what it used to be. I survived many elites melee attacks and I remember they used to kill instantly. The enemy AI seems a bit off too, with them standing still too often not even avoiding grenades; or the complete opposite where they would dodge even the slightest MA5B burst.
Vehicles sections were somewhat broken imo. It feels like there was too many seraphs and banshees in LNoS and they were a loooot more aggressive than what they used to be, attacking me 2v1 or even 3v1, depleting my Sabres energy in two seconds. Same thing in New Alexandria. I don’t remember taking down thirty banshees in the whole mission in the 360 version. The falcon’s health can take great damage from banshees but mounted turrets reduced it to dust in a matter of seconds.
The destroy two vehicles with the target locator in Sword Base achievement may be glitched too. Destroying both wraithes when getting the tl didn’t unlock it and I did it twice.
In the Package, impossible to get the secret Easter egg room. I just can’t get low enough to activate the switch, I constantly get killed 2 meters too high.
The list could continue but I didn’t want my post to be too long. What do you think about it?

Definitely agree with the seraphs being way too aggressive I know this is legendary but come on they were not like that in the original 360 version.
I too agree with the seraphs/banshees in Alexandria, I practiced entire campaign on legendary again on 360 and going back through now on MCC, solace has been a pain (less so on LASO because of tilt and mythic) but I just keep saying to myself “they feel way more aggressive on 360”
as for some of the other stuff I think the campaign is still good, AI allies were never helpful to begin with damage wise, all they do is distract enemies so you can get behind them for assassination. And for elite melees not killing in one hit, they seem like they kill in one hit because they kill when you have only lost a certain amount of shields, if you have full shields you can always survive an elite melee. As for achievements stuff some of them I can’t comment on yet but MCC has always been glitchy so it may take time for stuff to unlock.
Is it just me or is the AI (enemies at least) really stupid or something? Like I don’t remember them being this mind numbingly stupid, they all just walk towards the player. You got halo on the OG xbox (CE and 2) where the AI will actually take cover and engage in fun firefights. Reach AI just walks towards you not caring if they live or die. Especially with elites, they just run in a perfectly straight line to you makes them kinda boring to fight. Was AI always this stupid or did something change (I don’t remember how they was that well). Only time they ever don’t come straight to you is when they just roll left, then right, then left again, then right again endlessly till you kill them (to the point it’s pretty much predictable when and where they will roll) Idk but of all the halo games on MCC, I feel like this one has the dumbest AI. If they come straight to you it’s literally no challenge, they don’t even try to dodge your shots.
Lol its like they took a page from old humanity and how we used to fight wars forever ago. As in forget cover, forget tactics, just walk straight towards the enemy shooting.

I remember plasma pistoling a lot more on the 360 and prohibiting any sort of melee action (even energy sword) as they would survive anything and laugh at me with their five frame elbow hit or high kick.

They weren’t at all like that. Reach enemy AI used to be the smartest. Seeing them dodging was annoying but predictable as they would avoid grenades and look for cover when their shields were worn.
But from my last playthrough on MCC, none of them ran at me. Even the sword elites (maybe once or twice?)! They were so full of hesitation that made me wonder how much they actually wanted to invade the planet.
