Split screen is not a “oh that’d be nice I suppose” thing it’s a requirement for them to continue to redeem themselves. It’s unacceptable and inexcusable to not return it.
Oddly enough, despite it being mentioned as something 343 would look into according to old feedback threads, the lack of split-screen for PC isn’t documented on the halo Support site as a known issue.
I keep getting friends who want to experience Halo but I can’t offer them the classic experience, despite having four controllers and a way to connect it to my TV. Halo has always been such a great party game for a handful of friends and I don’t want that lost in the definitive version of these games. Especially once many legacy 360 Halo functions will be closed in January.
It doesn’t need a lot of depth, it could just duplicate the first player’s settings into three more players. I’m not gonna introduce my friends to Halo Infinite if they haven’t had the classic experience to ease them into the franchise. PC players are losing a major piece of Halo.
In a perfect world, it’d be cool if elements that capped out the split-screen to 2 players due to hardware restrictions were increased to 4, like Firefight, Spartan Ops, co-op, but I’ll take anything at this point.
How strong is your PC? Have you tried Nucleus Coop? I’d really recommend it if you want to do split-screen on PC. I was under the impression it worked with the Microsoft Store version too, but I honestly never checked.
Everytime I see anyone suggest nucleus I feel like they’re a 343i employee just pushing interest in that direction so they get us to shut up. Nucleus is a hacky way of going about split screen. It works but tons of trojan red flags and i just don’t trust it.
I’ve honestly never gotten a trojan from such trusted software outside of bonzi buddy, not everybody is out to get your PC.
Nucleus Coop might suck, it worked when I used it once, but it’s literally the only option PC players have. You can’t play local co-op in MCC any other way. Am I supposed to wait and hope and ask? There are better things to wait for, better things to hope in, and this feature has been asked for from day one. This is the way 343i has sold us the game and we have bought it.
If you have a serious belief that Nucleus Coop is untrustworthy software then I am open to hear it. I recommend it to people a lot, I wouldn’t mind warning them if there is something to warn them about. I’ve only ran it once. There was some command line stuff through an .exe that made a bunch of changes to the game’s config files. Yeah, that’s a little weird because it’s hard to figure out if that’s all that it did. Most of my trust in it comes from it being a frequently used program. I understand if you’re not comfortable using it. I don’t think it’s a danger, but I understand that it’s not a risk that you want to take.
While traditional split-screen on 1 display would be very welcome I’d like to see someone make the move for multi-monitor setups; Let one player use an entire second display. Shouldn’t be an issue on modern setups considering how many displays a modern CPU and GPU can drive at the same time in 4K @60Hz. Rendering the images at 1080p or 1440p should be easy peasy.
I’m pretty sure Nucleus Coop supports this since it’s running the game multiple times on the same machine and connects them over an internal LAN.
Split screen is very much needed.
I refunded the game as soon as I found out there was no local coop. It didn’t even cross my mind that ports of classic halo games would not contain such a staple feature, especially when the console MCC has it.
Just want to chime in to say I too would really like to have split-screen for match-making on MCC for PC.
