MCC (PC) Causing Intermittent Wi-Fi Blackouts

Hi,

I recently bought the MCC for PC on Steam due to the release of Halo 2: Anniversary. So far it’s mostly been a blast. Unfortunately, like the title of my post says, I’ve been having intermittent Wi-Fi blackouts while playing it on my PC. For clarification, by Wi-Fi blackout I don’t just mean “I randomly disconnect from a match”. I mean that the entire wireless functionality of my PC stops and I disconnect not only from the game, but also Steam, Discord, my web browser, and any other online application I happen to be running at the same time as well. When looking at the taskbar tray on my desktop, I completely lose connection to my home’s wireless network and once I close out of the MCC it usually takes about 20s or so for it to connect back all by itself.

The issue is not constant or even predictable. Although I’d say it seems to happen once every 10 or so matches that I play on average. This is very frustrating because aside from these brief, seemingly-random disconnects the game runs perfectly. I have no lag whatsoever when in matches and my ping is always 80ms & below.

These are the troubleshooting steps I’ve already tried:

  • Reset & power-cycled my entire modem/router several times - Rebooted my PC probably 50 different times - Made sure my PC and every possible driver for it were all up to date - Verified the integrity of my MCC download via Steam - Made sure the MCC was whitelisted by my Windows 10 firewall - Played the MCC by itself with no other programs running alongside it that might potentially interfere - Played other online games (Final Fantasy XIV, Path of Exile, MTG Arena) for several hours at a time each to see if any of them suffer from the same issue (they don’t) - Followed basically every generic suggestion for “Windows 10 Wi-Fi randomly disconnects” offered on Google - Rolled back my Windows 10 PC by two weeks (long before I bought & installed the MCC) using System Restore to test if a recent update or software change was the causeUnfortunately none of the above steps have solved the issue. The Wi-Fi functionality of my entire PC continues to briefly cease once every 10 or so matches. Again, I want to stress that this happens ONLY WHILE PLAYING THE MCC. No other online game I play (or online application I run) causes this issue.

I’m at my wits end. I just can’t comprehend how this issue only plagues the MCC in particular and not any of others I tested. My only hope is that someone here might’ve had a similar issue and been able to solve it. If so, any suggestions are welcome! I’m desperate. The only recourse I feel like I have left is to completely wipe my drive and then reinstall Windows 10 from scratch to see if that fixes it. I doubt it will, though, considering this issue seems to be isolated specifically to the MCC.

And before anyone asks, no, the layout of my home does not allow for the option of using a wired Ethernet connection.

Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Me and my friend suffer the same issue and both of us are on wired and not wireless.

We completely lose connection to everything for about 10 seconds and then reconnect. It only happens on this game and it kicks the entire Internet out when it does it. We can’t hear each other and our discord server friends also cannot hear either of us.

Although for some reason, when I alt tab out of the game and try and load a web browser, I am able to do so. This may just be because ethernet is faster at assigning itself an IP address than wireless but I’m not sure.

Either way, this game cuts all Internet every so often. This isn’t the first xbox live game that has done this either. I used to have the same issue with gears 5 but that fixed itself after an reinstall of windows.

This bug persists even to this day and microsoft need to sort this crap out.
