MCC must be maintained by interns and clowns

Original post. Click at your own discretion.

Two fatal crashes back to back, with the error “FATAL”. Real informative, I can totally determine what that is and how to fix it. Oh and both result in a ban.

Revolutionary concepts, can’t wait to see this in Infinite.

I suspect most of the attention will be on Infinite right now. Hopefully things will improve once Infinite is out and more dev time and resources can focus on fixing some of the bugs.

It’s maintained by 343 so you aren’t far off

Yeah same, I still get kicked out of games before the game even starts. Results in bans. CE and H2 are nothing like the original. Instead of fixing the game, they go off and fill it with clown’s play toys.

Same but it’s still no excuse for 7 years of this. They likely diverted resources when developing Halo 5, too.

I managed to find that MCC does generate minidumps and WinDbg blames DirectX 11 (for a PTR deference). Other than that, this would have to be read by 343. Still no excuse for the “blam” style error message.

Hopefully a full reinstall does something.

Even if a game is developed by highly experienced game devs, it’s still extremely difficult to make a game completely bug free. This do especially apply if the game has to support a diverse set of devices that are slightly different.

In this case, I would suspect that you are playing the PC version of MCC. When it comes to PC games, it’s probably a true nightmare to develop due to the fact that set of PCs are diverse and the settings used may also be highly diverse. Some issues may simply be so specific that they are extremely difficult to detect due to the issue only being induced under some extremely specific circumstances where it’s hard to imagine that such circumstances would cause an issue.

My post obviously was made out of frustration; however, I am a dev too and have been for close to 10 years. I can tell you they can do far better with error messages. At the least, there should be a telemetry option to send crash reports. I realize there are unexpected situations where “reason” would be unknown, but all my crashes are unknown.

7 years and the game still crashes with no explanation is simply not OK.

Update: I ended up with three back to back crashes that night. A full reinstall seems to have stabilized it. But again, I’d love to know why.

Not to invalidate the post because I’ve had the FATAL error once or twice, but with 100’s of hours in the game, crashes have never occurred with me, and that has been through hardware changes as well - I’ve always hoped they can get the MCC 99% stable for everyone though, it would be good.
