MCC matchmaking, what is going on?

So,

As the Infinite is what it is, been trying to play MCC. I just can’t do it because every single match is a one-sided stomp. The enemy team is always full of professionals and my team not so much. It is very tiring to be honest and I uninstalled the game because I can’t take it. Something is broken here - Steam charts show that MCC has about the same amount of players as Infinite plus the hidden console population so it’s not completely dead either.

Matchmaking takes a long time for me and often I get to play with the same handful of people who rotate in and out of my matches. I’m not crying about how bad I am but the matchmaking itself doesn’t make any sense here. I remember playing Halo 4 back in the day, coming home after work and it was always pretty casual experience but now I can’t do anything before I get instantly lasered down and the fact this happens every match I go in.

Has there been any talk about it - is there known issues or is this the experience 343 wants people to have?

Halo 4 is a much more casual game.

The truth is, while the populations are similar, people still playing the games in MCC have likely been playing them for decades at this point. So you cant compare the two population sizes.

Add people who perform well and play together - thats how to prevent what you’re describing. Good luck!

Halo population is relatively low compared to previous years. Moreover, the majority of them are regular players. Therefore it’s most likely to get matched against regular players (and considering they normally play together)

My advice is to play together or play FFA games.

Only Halo CE has been out for more than 1 decade.

Easy on the hyperbole

You all missed the point here. My question was about the matchmaking and the team balancing in the said matchmaking.

I have played FPS games for 20 years now and Halo is not a new thing for me either. The issue is about the team balancing and why it is so lop-sided every single time I play MCC.

But anyway good luck because I’m out of this s-hole.

I noticed this too, even made some threads about it (where people said they experienced it too).
MM has always been pretty poorly balanced overall (weight on maps, team balance, etc.) since at least 2019, but it seems especially bad now.

Yes, there have been talks about it. Apparently I cannot link posts like I used to in the old waypoint, but I am sure you will find them if you look around a bit here. Some are relatively recent.

That said, yeah, I am with you here. I have not touched the multiplayer in 4 months and I am proud of it. I know it is dumb, yet here I am…

Because MCC matchmaking isn’t where people are at for casual play. Take a peek in the CGB.

Halo CE is 21 years old

Halo 2 is 18 years old

Halo 3 is 15 years old

ODST is 13 years old

Reach is 12 years old

Thats 5 games over a decade old.

OP, Halo MCC isnt even in the top 50 on xbox. On top of that, you have 6 multiplayers in the collection splitting up that small group of players. The reason you’re getting matched with the same people is because they’re the only ones searching. If you arent playing with a group, then itll be you and randoms vs stacked teams.

Youre right, its not the Halo you remembered back in the day. Those days are over. MCC doesnt have the population to support casual matchmaking.

If you want a casual experience, the best place for it is the custom games browser where things arent taken as seriously

matchmaking broken again just like it was 2 months ago

You can call MCC and 8-9 year old game. You can call CE a 20 year old game. You’ll be able to call 2 a 20 year old game in a year and a half.

But you don’t get to add 5 years to Halo 3 because you feel like it.

You said only ce was over a decade old

A decade is 10 years

H3 is 15 years old

Thats a decade and a half, which would make it more than a decade old.

I understood what you meant. The only Halo game that anyone could have played for “decades” (two 10 year periods or more of time) is Halo CE. The rest aren’t ‘decades’ old yet.

Depends. Are you only playing certain games in the collection.

Personally its better to give all the multiplayers a chance. Most clan based players tend to go for reach or 3.

I totally understand, the matchmaking back in the day was way better. For example, Halo 3 on 360 only shut down in January this year. I still played this version many times per week till the last day. The games were full of experienced players like you and me but it was never this sweaty and ridiculous. People nowadays cheat way more and try to find and use any glitch to win their games, its a problem in many todays shooters imo but the other FPS games do at least have a good matchmaking system where teams are way more balanced. The matchmaking in MCC is way worse compared to Halo 3 for example. You easily get thrown into games where the enemy team has 2 cheaters and 2 guys with a 5000 Dollar pc setup, they don’t seem to balance the teams like Halo 3 did. So my conclusion is, the matchmaking is in a terrible state on MCC combined with cheaters and players who have their eyeballs touching the monitor.

I would be ok with matching teams against other teams. I don’t care how long they have to wait. Mcc feels like it’s nothing but stacked teams farming solos.

Could not agree more with this statement.

What you’re experiencing is lack of party matching. They claim the MCC is an authentic Halo experience, but the old games are anything but. It’s not your fault. We all have to deal with it.
