It took about 3 days to download the 70GB update, and then another night downloading an 8GB update. I was excited to finally play it but it just stays on the opening static logo with the big space background and then returns to the Xbox home page.

Do you own ODST? If so, could you try installing it to see if it resolves this issue?

Internal.
I’m having the same problem, MCC only took a little under 15 hours to download and now it wont launch
Do you get sound or do you just see the splash-screen you see before a game launches?
Can you logout of your profile and try launching while logged out?
Are you running from disk? If yes - try launching the game and then eject the disk. I am hoping this to trigger an error which hopefully will request you to insert the disk which in turn might load the game further.
Can you try launching the game from its Xbox Live store page? There should be a ‘Play Now’ button on the MCC store page.
Have you power-cycled your console? (https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/power-cycle-console)
Can you try setting your system to Offline mode (https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/networking/using-xbox-one-offline)

I uninstalled it already before I read your post. I’m reinstalling it now. When it’s reinstalled (and if it’s still not working) I’ll try your ideas and report back.
