WHY… WHY do you not update the game so it works correctly. It is not fun being a level 9 matching 40 plus every -Yoinking!- game
That’s not fixable at all due to Mccs low player count. If you were to match only lvl 9s, you’ll wait hours to get a game. So you’re stuck playing vs whomever else is playing reguardless of skill and rank.
And I was just about to ask about the player online population… yoink thats sad.
It is pretty poor of the team not to fix the game and attempt to bring back some fans. At the very least, MS could throw the master chief collection out there as a Free with GOLD game.
It’s no surprise that it isn’t populated, 343 completely screwed it up. I would much rather see specific playlists ie Halo 3 Slayer, Halo 2 Big Team ect.

I can load up Halo 3, which never has more than 500 people playing it, and still avoid getting match-ups as bad as the OP’s. I matched a team of 50s as a level 1 in a ranked MCC playlist, while the worst skill level difference I’ve seen in Halo 3 is 20.
Population isn’t the problem. It’s the networking and absence of skill-based matchmaking.

Pop most definately is a problem dude lol. Mcc is also not halo 3. There are many differences in mcc h3 than the original h3 on 360. My issue with mcc grouped or not grouped is taking forever to find games or matching vs people who completely destroy us. Neither is fun at all. What your imposing is they add sbmm? Well I just listed what are already very common issues, adding sbmm which I already think is there but won’t work properly because of an awful pop, sbmm would just make it even worse. Mcc is done. There’s nothing to fix its issues. Fix the searches and people will either never find a game due to low pop and not many people in their range, or you’ll only play vs the same people the next few hours that your on. I too play even the original h3 on 360, it’s gotten so bad with no server support that I just can’t do it as often.

Any differences specific to Halo 3 360 and Halo 3 MCC are irrelevant. Both ranked H3 360 and ranked MCC rely on P2P matching and both use numerical ranks. Low population or not, there are no excuses for such unbalanced matches as OP described. Fast search times are be nice, but they are foiled if you are forced to absolutely destroy or be destroyed. I will gladly take long search times if it means matching people around my skill level in a ranked playlist. If you want no search parameters whatsoever, go play social. In ranked, though, you must have SBMM, no questions asked. Otherwise, ranks are meaningless.
Search times are just as long as they were at launch, maybe even faster. If population was the underlying issue, then by now, it would be next to impossible to find a match in anything outside of team slayer and BTB, and 343 would have consolidated the playlists like they did with Reach.
By the way, SBMM was killed when 343 lifted all search parameters in ranked playlists so that 1s could play 50s. As of now, there is no logical reason to play a ranked playlist in the MCC.

I’m just trying to get into a game.

I would much rather see a custom game browser with join in progress. That is the absolute minimum in online multiplayer. Shouldn’t be hard at all for them to add if they are going to abandon support all together.

This post nails it. Ranked matchmaking on MCC just isn’t enjoyable due to the lack of solid thresholds for rank differences and the lack of party matching.

I sympathize, OP; unfair match-ups are not very enjoyable.
Tried team hardcore. Everyone was like level 40+

This would be good, provided that it showed the ping and location of the person hosting.
The reason you match with rank 40s and such is because no one plays the game anymore.
