Cause I spend more time in lobbies waiting for players than actual gameplay.
It’s been a while but whenever I play MCC, whether it’s ranked or social even BTB, it’s just slow matchmaking players. I allow crossplay on and all the servers, even the ones with bad ping.
Ranked I’ve heard has had a drop in numbers but I think it just mainly depends on what game and mode you’re trying to play. Even before Infinite I’d have times it would be searching and not find anything until I backed out and searched again and it was almost instant.
Granted this is just Steam so not the total number of players but from what I’ve heard Infinite has been seeing a decline in players while MCC has started to gain players.
Don’t get obsessed with Steam. Majority of pc gamers use Windows store / Gamepass for Xbox games.
Steam numbers mean nothing.
But yeah looks like despite fanboy forum comments, MCC is dying. Everyone must be on Infinite cause the wait times on the majority of modes is getting slower. Sometimes 10 minutes, i just give up and play a different game.
What’ve you been playing? I can get slayer matches and action sack games within less than a minute for more or less all of the games in MCC reliably, and that’s after work at like 2 am-5 am EST- when you’d expect it to be the most dead. I’m not trying to start an argument, this is just a legitimate question as to what games and game modes you’re trying to queue into.
I haven’t been able to find a squad slayer match since Infinite. The only game I can reasonably find ranked matches is H3. Social playlist is still relatively quick, but if you try to search CE or H2C exclusively you might wait awhile especially if it isn’t precision slayer or SWAT.
When MCC came to Steam, I found some play in the MP for Halo 3 but I played the campaigns though several times which is why I bought the package in the first place.
MP was largely stuck with one map and efforts to try Reach or Halo 4 MP was dead
I can usually find a game within seconds, but it has taken up to a minute to find a game before.
Sometimes I can’t find a game in any mode though, I restart my game and its back to under a min to get into a match.
I think the matchmaker glitches and loses track of the player or something because it randomly wont find any matches, sometimes custom games wont even show up but there are ALWAYS custom games.
Same getting caught in a queue loop thing happened to me when I tried Halo Infinite, to point I had to restart 3 times before finding a match the first time I tried to play it, so I am fairly certain I am not imagining things and 343i just has wacky servers and matchmaking.
(crossplay is on, regions set to NA only, and relays are on)
I haven’t been able to get into Ranked on MCC in weeks, not a single match. I think everything is as open and unrestricted as I can get it. Social is better mostly, but it depends on the time of day.
I play on an OG Xbox one… Yeah match making can be slow if you are really trying to be specific in the match composer. I love playing FFA and I used to be able to find games in just H2A pretty easy. Now I have to select a few other titles sometimes when match making gets really slow. Heck sometimes I have to bite the bullet and try 4v4. In ranked I usually only find games in H3 team Slayer… Hopefully more players will filter back as Infinite really isn’t that good of a game. Most of the complaints I see about Infinite aren’t an issue in MCC. You can choose between precision and auto starts, you have input based matchmaking, cosmetics are earned via in game credits, and xp is medal based and challenges are just bonus xp… I wish more players would just play MCC. Anyways I also have to wait to find games late afternoon and night time EST zone.
In social I get games almost instantly and a minute at most. US servers, relays OFF, input based matchmaking disabled. Ranked all I play is H3 and that can take a minute or two. Sorry you can’t find matches but that doesn’t mean the game is dying lol
Edit: Just connected to a full lobby in 4 seconds in the middle of a US workday. Been running Google stopwatch while connecting and this is consistent. MCC is not dead at all lmao.
MM times are even worse if you are in Europe like I am, you either never get a match with good ping or get thrown into a US server with 100+ ping, good times.
MCC got screwed twice by 343 on both launches and the game has never recovered. It’s a miracle the game even still has some semblance of population.
It’s probably because everyone who used to play MCC Social and Competitive modes now play different games, like Infinite, or they just play on the CGB for MCC. I’ve found around 100 Players on average, with about 1/3 of them full with 14 - 16 players for CGB. But yeah, it doesn’t surprise me that Social and Competitive for MCC died when Infinite came out. It was only a matter of time…
Infinite split the player base (again), now what’s left of the Halo fans are split between 5, MCC, and Infinite, but there aren’t enough of us to keep 3 games alive.
The casuals have mostly dipped from all 3 (except Infinite, which is limping along by virtue of being new). I expect MCC will keep going through customs, but MM will be gone, similar with 5.
Infinite will probably linger like a bad smell for 2 or 3 years.
I legit can’t get any games of Halo 3 ODST Firefight, infection on Halo 2 and Halo 3 which is super weird, legit been sitting here for half an hour and can’t get a match, I’m on a Series S on US servers BTW, just pisses me off
MCC was never a solid foundation to begin with, rather an experiment that should have stayed a relic from 2014 while they ported and rereleased the real standalone titles to PC as a 10 year plan.
Not to say its bad or its dead or anything like that (its not even close), but it was already hard to maintain a playerbase since the playerbase for mcc is itself divided amongst the titles contained within, none who can be 100% satisfied with the matchmaking experience.
