After sinking a decent amount of time into this game, it’s just not the same as I remember it. Here’s the main issues I have with it, that aren’t about it being broken.
-Theater is basically worthless.
Like seriously, what the -Yoink- is even the point of it? I can’t watch anything other than 3 campaign games from last month. I can’t record. I can’t take screenshots. I can’t do half the -Yoink- I used to be able to do in H3 alone.
-Lack of playlists and too few players per game in them.
If this is part of the matchmaking bugs then alright, I’ll wait for it to get sorted. But BTB is not a 5v5 game. I’m sick of playing Halo CE 2v2 and 3v3 and that’s it. Where is the Team Objective playlist? Where is the Action Sack or anything else? Remember when Bungie would put up double EXP playlists for weekends?
-No Custom Game Lobby
I don’t know why they bother doing anything with Forge when they won’t add something like this. It’s impossible to get custom games going like they used to because the player base is so much smaller.
-Limited Armor Customization
I really don’t get why we are limited to entire sets as opposed to being able to mix and match like we could in 3 and 4.
-No Overall Rank
I know there are playlist ranks but I really miss in H3, Reach, and H4, having some overall rank that shows how much you’ve been playing. I Don’t see how hard it would be to add an EXP thing on this, in addition to the Skill ranks they plan for each playlist. I’ve been feeling like I’m playing a game and it just tries to be a snapshot of what Halo was. I don’t feel like this is a full game that properly mixes them together.
The reguler Halo ce list is 2v2 so get used to it lol
Ranks will be here eventually…
But who really cares about armor customization? Is that really a big thing that enhances the game that much? No offense intended that’s a real question

The Armor customization isn’t a huge deal to me, especially since it’s not even lacking in half the games. But the rest of the stuff really does bother me a lot and takes away a tremendous amount of what makes Halo memorable to me. I’d say 90% of the time I booted up Halo 3, Reach, or Halo 4 in the past 2 years was to just show friends clips and screenshots I had saved. And recording them through the Xbox record thing is really limiting.

I can give a little commentary on the armor customization. Really, it’s a simple technical compromise they had to make. Previous Halo games that have allowed us to mix-and-match pieces by body part and armor color have rendered in-engine the player model in the menu. For some reason, this isn’t something they can do across multiple game engines in the unified user interface, so the compromise is to reduce us to armor sets that only display in gray colors in the menu. This way they can still use pictures to show us what armor we’re selecting, but they don’t have to have upwards of tens of thousands of pictures to account for each potential little variation of armor. It’s not a fun compromise for us players, but it’s understandable for them.

I absolutely agree about Theater. They completely butchered it. Such a small temporary memory (what is it, twelve games?), the inability to save film clips in-game to review later also in-game (thus allowing the detachment of the camera), the inability to take and store and share screenshots, and the asinine decision not to implement Theater into Halo 4 Campaign and Spartan Ops for this collection are all really perplexing decisions. Theater’s integration with the Upload app is a really cool concept, but it definitely should not have replaced to pre-existing Theater functionality as it was already in these games, because it really limits us players. The thing about Upload is that it erases the film clips you save if you don’t then go into the app separately and save them there. And, of course, having us go only through the Upload app with Theater clips means we have a time limit of five minutes - we can no longer save entire matches for posterity or speed runs of entire longer Campaign levels. The Upload app gives us the cool perk of being able to share our film clips with anybody who owns an Xbox One, but gutting our previous Theater functionality was a huge price to pay for that relatively minor consolation. They really need to bring full Theater functionality back.
