Hello all.
I recently built a gaming PC and have tried to play Halo MCC on here and it is basically causing my PC to reboot every time. Every other game works fine so I am confused as to what is causing this problem
Specs:
Ryzen 5 3600
AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 X 8GB) DDR4 3600
ASUS Prime B550M-A WiFi AMD AM4
EVGA 110-BQ-0600-K1 600 BQ, 80+ Bronze 600W
Thanks to all. Any help is appreciated!

So what is happening when you play the MCC? You click on the icon to launch the MCC, and your PC instantly shuts off and reboots, or do you make it into the menu or even a campaign level/multiplayer map then the problem occurs?

I can get in the menu and actually mess with the settings and the my PC will just crash and reboot.

Is this happening when you go into your player armor customization screen, or when changing resolution/graphics settings/etc.? Can you get into a campaign level or multiplayer map okay if you don’t touch the settings menu?

Even if I leave it on the menu and don’t hit anything it will reboot my computer after about 5 mins.

Okay, it sounds like there is a serious problem happening if your entire system crashes and reboots. Are all of your GPU power cables connected firmly into the power pins? A long time ago on one of my previous PC’s, I had incorrectly hooked up my GPU power cables, and when a demanding moment occurred the system would crash due to graphics card power starvation. Also, is anything overheating in your system, such as your CPU, GPU, or memory sticks? Your PC could be shutting itself down to protect against excessive heat damage.

I don’t know if it is that because I can run the new Call of Duty just fine and it is more demanding than Halo.

Do me a favor and check all power cables within your PC case, making sure they are all firmly connected. Also monitor temperatures of all major components while gaming to make sure they are within normal limits. If all of that is okay and you notice no changes, then you may have to verify your game files integrity via steam. If there is still no improvement, then you may need to try reinstalling your game.
This is basically an OS or hardware issue.
Under modern Windows it’s mostly impossible to crash the system with bad software because software can’t access hardware or memory like it used to.
Even GPU driver issues can generally be recovered from these days.

Is this like a bluescreen crash or does the computer randomly shut off like someone unplugged it and then reboot?

Shutting off like someone unplugged it.

But why is it only Halo giving me the issue?
It could be anything, we don’t have access to your PC. For all we know Halo uses a specific instruction more than certain apps and it’s causing too much stress on a component.
If your PC is hard rebooting that’s almost certainly a hardware issue.

I mean to me it sounds like it might be some kind of thermal issue (maybe the CPU), if you’re having it shut off like that and only when you play a specific title. I think something might be getting toasty in there. I had this happen to me exclusively with Halo 5 Forge a while back. After I’d play for a little while power would just get randomly cut to the computer and after a few seconds it would start back up. What I did was take canned air and clean out my CPU heatsink really good (it was caked with dust). I would start by making sure that your heatsink isn’t dirty and your cooler is actually running.
I don’t know if this helps or not (how long ago did you build that computer?) I’m also assuming you’re using the stock cooler. The only other thing would be to do some hardware troubleshooting, like testing with a different power supply, testing with a different GPU, just to rule out those components and narrow down the scope of the problem. It would be ideal if you had extras of those components or could borrow them from another computer.

Different games can leverage the hardware differently. If it is shutting off like someone disconected the power (like you described in the earlier post) then I’m leaning towards some kind of heat problem but at least a hardware problem. Usually if Windows goes down you at least see a bluescreen or the computer immediately reboots without shutting off.
Hey, checking in on this, did it ever get resolved? I recently built a PC and am having the same problem - except I am watching my processor heat and wattage as it happens.
I’ve managed to play one match fine, and then sometimes it reboots the whole machine in the menu.
AMD Ryzen 5 5600x
Nvidia 3060 ti
Gigabye 650w PSU
Asus x570 Gaming plus wifi board
16 gb of Oloy Warhawk RAM
I’ve done the ram test (passed), and GPU stress test at 1080p which is all the monitor can do and it’s passed.
Thoughts?
Sounds like a hardware instability to me. What programs are running in the background? I’ve heard rather mixed things about EVGA power supplies, it could be causing the issue.
From what other people were saying, I think it might be a problem with Easy Anti Cheat. Its the only program in Halo running on the Kernel level. Do you have any other games that use Easy Anti Cheat? If so, do they crash also?
Exact same thing here. I just built my system and played hours of Cyberpunk 2077 and Battlefront 2 without any problems. As soon as I get to the menu in Halo, my pc reboots.
Ryzen 5 5600x
MSI RTX 3070
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32gb 3200mhz
Asus Tuf X570 Pro
Gamemax 850w Gold
A BIOS update solved this for me.
Asus Tuf X570 Pro
Sorry I just saw the replies to this. I ended up switching out my Power supply and that seemed to fix alot of my issues. I Haven’t been playing Halo as much but I still feel like my graphics card was the issue. Glad to hear a Bios update fixed it for you though Gapzi11a
