MCC 20 Year Halo Anniversary Feedback

I’d love for more assets to be supplied for modding tools (Halo Online weapon variants and armor abilities, support for the other Halos, etc.), but when all that’s pushed out of the way, it’d be REALLY cute if mod tools were then created for Halo games outside of the Master Chief Collection. Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2 have a pretty active modding scene that has to work around awkward restrictions. Halo 5: Forge is basically solely creative content and would really benefit from lifted restrictions in modding. Spartan Assault and Strike don’t have much of an audience, but if modding was available for it, I’d definitely look into it. It has neat assets that I’d love to play with and it’s so inexpensive that I imagine players would love to mess with it. Especially if modders could use raw assets from each game, like reusing the model and animations from the Spartan Strike’s Kestrel in a Halo Wars mod, for example.

Just noticed this weekend that Jackal death animations are glitched and broken in Halo 3 and ODST. When they die, their legs always cross and the feet clip through each other.

In the original 360 versions this wasn’t the case. Something in the porting process caused their death animations to glitch. Would be nice to see this fixed!

I wouldn’t say always. It seems to only happen if they die and fall a certain way.

Edit: I checked legacy in H3 and it does happen there, but not nearly as much.

The lack of online population outside of 4v4 games has been a recent problem, especially considering the game-specific achievements that can’t easily be earned outside of larger sized games. I’m not sure how the logic would work, but allowing players to choose multiple player sizes in their search queue would be very nice. I prefer free-for-all and infection games, it’d be great if I could search between both of those.

Just fyi you and any other chill folks who are classic Halo fans can feel free to add me. I play MCC a lot lol.

  • Please add female body type options to H3.

  • Please add both a Woodland(like the weapon skin) and Avalanche weapon skin style camo versions of the Gen 1 H3 undersuit., along with fixing the hand models. And ideally, please also grant the ability to apply these skins to armour pieces, probably the most ideal way to do that would be granting us the ability to apply a pattern/skin, in this case camo, for each individual armour section or at least the entire suit if that’s too hard and then we can change the colouring ourselves.

  • Please allow us to change the colour of armour lights and give us the ability to select where the primary/secondary areas on armour is.

  • If you significantly increase the H3 Forge object limit and add new objects particularly stuff that would allow me to make believable remakes(doesn’t look like it was made in Forge) of Beaver Creek, Coagulation, Backwash, District, Timberland(think H3 graphics and denser foliage), Elongation, Ivory Tower and Sanctuary I will love you forever.

This is the thread where the team wants us to put requests and feedback, correct?

ALL GAMES: I’d really like to see an option introduced for adjusting reticle size. Would be just as well if it automatically adjusted according to FOV as it does in Infinite.

  • Please enhance Theater mode. At the very least return the ability to take photos and record clips.

Some fixes I want for future MCC updates on both Xbox and PC:

  • Halo 1 plasma grenade sound in campaign is still anniversary when classic sounds are turned on. It’s the sound that happens right before it blows up. (MCC’s Halo 1 plasma grenade sound is correct for multiplayer though so that’s good, it just needs to be fixed for campaign.)

  • Please add original Halo 1 text size on top left of the HUD, and original Halo 1 weapon icons on the HUD for picking up weapons. (Both campaign and multiplayer).

The top left text size for MCC’s classic Halo 1 HUD is still smaller than original Halo 1’s text. (When it says “Loading… done”, “Checkpoint… done”, “Hold X to swap for”, “Picked up an assault rifle”, campaign objectives etc.)

And MCC’s Halo 1 weapon icons for picking up weapons aren’t the originals.

(Only the top left texts need to be changed. The “No Weapon”, “No Grenades”, and “Reload” texts in the middle are already correct.)

Apparently Firefight was at one point considered to be added to Halo 4 before being replaced by Spartan Ops. Depending on how far in development it got, it’d be neat if it was implemented to Halo 4 onto the Spartan Ops maps. Even if it had bare bones functionality all hard-coded in, like how 3: ODST was before 343 overhauled it.

More than that though, I still think adding Halo 4’s Spartan Ops as an option in the Firefight matchmaking menu would be incredible.

Honestly i’d love to see firefight or invasion added to Halo 4, especially since much of the functionality should still be there/easy to bring over from Reach and H2A.

Back when the Master Chief Collection was starting to add updates, especially around ODST’s release, I always thought it’d be awesome if they followed the path of Team Fortress 2 with aggressively themed updates, Invasion focus being one of them: Invasion being offered for 3, 4, and 2: Anniversary, being added to social matchmaking, casual Forge variants of existing maps, the Beta’s green vs. purple colors offered outside of ranked gametypes, and Elites in Halo 4 using assets from 2: Anniversary.

Absolutely unrealistic, especially now that Infinite is taking the spotlight and development focus, but it’s fun to pontificate. It would have been such a cool marketing move.

*Put the missing OG Forge World maps into the Slayer rotation (Affinity, Chateau, Eden Minor, Enclosed, Midas, Precipice, Pulse, Renova & Treasury)

MCC HALO GAME: Halo 3
FEEDBACK: Today and yesterday, there must be a server issue. When the map is loading, it takes substantially longer and kicks 1-4 players on average. And the players that get kicked are getting penalized with bans.

With each Halo game in the campaign list, it’s easy for a new player to be lost. It’d be nice if their release years were listed next to their title since there’s a lot of visual room in that specific view. Then a player can choose to start with game chronology, or with release chronology. And, likewise, since the order of the menu is based on game chronology, Halo 3: ODST should be placed before Halo 3.

I know we are about to get a new update very soon, but even so, while waiting, this is my routine copy-paste of things I’d like to see changed in MCC (in order of how much I want to see each one being implemented)

Lift the “Team Size” limitation for Social Games in Matchmaking.

From a discussion between me and my friends, we really miss the days where you could search into a 4v4 matchmaking game as a full on 8-man lobby, or even 6 of us and have 2 of us being paired with 2 random players.

I don’t see a reason for this feature to not return to the games. If player toxicity, malicious behavior, or other forms of griefing in general is of concern, we now have easy access to reporting players for such behavior.

We think it’s great to allow for the Match Composer to decide what games we play, what teams we end up into and so forth while at the same time also getting the benefit of a dedicated server.

The CGB was an excellent addition to MCC, but it doesn’t solve this problem as we cannot complete challenges meant for matchmade games in the CGB.


MCC HALO GAME: Halo: Reach/Halo 3: ODST

FEEDBACK: Allow ‘Firefight Doubles’ to complete firefight challenges.

This issue stems from the fact that doubles only play “One Round” while challenges generally requires “Full/One Set” which is only available in 4-player Firefight.

As a player, I would like to be able to restart campaign missions, or quit campaign and go back to the main menu, directly from the post-mission score screen.
It’s a minor thing, but it’s really annoying having to way for the next mission to load before I can save and quit back to the menu, even if all I wanted was to play the same mission again.

FEEDBACK: Adjust MCC LASO playlist requirements to better match that of Infinite.

Put at the bottom since I find this the least important but with the Infinite LASO including skulls to make things a bit more bearable like Bandana and removing Iron since it’s just an annoyance more than an actual hinderance, could we please see these skulls being included/excluded for the other titles here on MCC?

LASO is already a rediculously difficult challenge to overcome (huge props to anyone who has already done so, I’m working on my 2nd one as of writing) and while we have no Tank Gun available to us in MCC, perhaps including Bandana and removing Iron can make things a bit less obnoxious.

Please make changes to these “weights” regarding map and gametype picks.
Some maps almost never appear. HCE Gephyrophobia & Death Island are two that comes to mind, the former being one of my all-time favorite maps. I have no insight in what these weights look like today, and because of that my only wish is for all weights to be set equally, so that every map and gametype has an equally fair chance of appearing in matchmaking.

The quantity of maps that aren’t used makes me incredibly sad. The game is advertised as having more than 120 maps, yet most of my games are Midship, Heretic, and Zealot. All made worse that I almost never find Waterfall, Edge, and Icebox, all special for the Master Chief Collection. I believe there are also small Forge variants back in the 360 days that are excluded, though I’ve only played online during the life of the Master Chief Collection on PC so I wouldn’t know. Many maps weren’t made explicitly for specific gametypes, but nearly every one functions. I’ll take 10 decent maps over the same great 5 maps any day.

well the update did a buncha solid stuff, so I guess all I can say is this:

ODST

  • Restore the unused Stealth Elites as Enemies, the wave variety for Elites would benefit from there inclusion since Spec-Ops Elites have been added as allies only for Floodfight
  • Restore the unused Spec-Ops grunts as allies for Spec Ops Elites
  • Recreate the cut ranks from the early builds of Halo 3 (Ultras as the rank up from Majors, Zealots as bosses like chieftains, etc)

Halo 3

  • Revert the changes to the Hands in Halo 3, as it broke the Hand armor of nearly every set in the game, especially Warrior and COS which featured armor on the fingers
  • Update the Gen 1 Mark VI armor and permutations using the H2A Mark VI armor
  • Add the FTR/CEA Mark V to Halo 3
