MCC 20 Year Halo Anniversary Feedback

Like everyone, I really want as much content from Halo: Online to be preserved as much as possible. Maps and armor are pretty easy, since they can just be added to Halo 3, but everything else falls into a tricky category of ambiguity, though great as official open modding assets for the community, they could really throw out game balance for each title, or be redundant with each game’s other assets.

I realized, though, a good way to implement armor abilities could be through Halo 3: ODST, as alternatives to the night vision. While they make no sense in lore or canon, they wouldn’t harm the game balance as they’re not at the expense of other players, but NPCs instead, all while being in a similar engine. They could be exclusive to custom games, but I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing them in matchmaking. These would include

  1. Night Vision
  2. Halo 3 Flashlight
  3. Sprint
  4. Concussive Blast
  5. Hologram
  6. Lightning Strike
  7. Vehicle Cloaking
  8. V.I.S.R.

The only one I don’t think could benefit the gameplay experience would be Reflective Shield, which returns Melee Damage to the sender.
I don’t know if Halo Online featured Reach-like loadouts, but that could be a neat optional addition that would compliment these armor abilities as well. Then purists, who don’t prefer the addition in potential matchmaking, can still use the classic Silenced SMG and Automag, while others can choose new MCC exclusive features.

Also please I’m begging you guys please port Diamondback to Halo Reach, gosh it would be so fun and so cool in the Reach engine with its vehicle pool and Big Team Battle-focused gameplay oh man.

One thing I’ve recommended is modifying the the Bonded Pair and Envy skull multipliers to .5, so they don’t nullify challenges nor achievements as they’re not as intense as traditional 0 modifier skulls, like Bandana, Scarab, or Acrophobia.
However, adding to that, Bonded Pair is absolutely useless in Legendary difficulty because when one player dies, it resets to the last checkpoint. It’d be nice if the skull either disabled this, or, in the Options menu beneath scoring and visuals, was an option for Teammate Respawning that could disable this, so that if a teammate dies in Legendary, it behaves like in lower difficulties and other titles where the player can respawn if in a safe area. It’d be a nice way to throw a bone to people trying to push for those difficult Legendary-based achievements due to the lack of mercy in Halo 2, without taking away from the core experience.

Campaign Feedback

i like to see audio options for the campaign mode that you can turn of the voice autio’s and autio effect’s off in halo MCC campaign mode.

I would definitely like to see a slider for the MCC music as it is too loud at times and drowns out the audio effects and voices.

  • MCC HALO GAME: Halo 4
  • FEEDBACK: Plasma grenade sticks in Halo 4 don’t count toward the stick around challenge, which seems to be intentional. Please update the challenge to include Halo 4, it seems arbitrary to exclude it.

Halo 3 was definite a controller challenge

So I did a bit of number crunching: There are 17 skins for the Battle Rifle, and 13 weapons that have none (excluding the 7-Wood). If development for the Battle Rifle was put towards giving these weapons just one extra skin instead, this would leave the Battle Rifle with 4 skins. This is still more skins than what 5 other weapons have. I know development is slowing down for the Master Chief Collection to make room for its younger sibling, but I really hope skins are given to other weapons. My favorite gun is the mauler, so it makes me a little bit sad it doesn’t get as much love as the other weapons, especially since even Halo Online had a skin for it.
Halo: CE was really good because the only item that didn’t get a skin was the Shade Turret, which is only featured on three maps. All players should have the opportunity to customize their favorite weapons.

While some players might be tired of Halo 3 content, that would absolutely be different if these lacking skins (or other cut skins) are added while Halo 3 skins are incorporated into Halo 3: ODST. It’d make for a great content update, even if it’s not a traditional season.

Also, while it’s trending, it’d be cool if the cut wildlife from Reach were all restored.

Among the cut content from Halo Online, is the inclusion of a tutorial level: https://www.halopedia.org/Cut_Halo_Online_levels#Tutorial
Unlike preserving the rest of Halo Online’s content, this level wouldn’t fit well in the multiplayer world of Halo 3, but still has room to be included.

The Master Chief Collection includes an overwhelming amount of content for people who’ve never touched it, so it’d be REALLY cute if, in the Campaign selection above Halo Reach or for players starting from absolute scratch, was this tutorial mission. Clicking “Halo Tutorial” would simply lead to a menu with the single mission, no options for time, difficulty, or skulls, and just the “start” button, spawning the player in their Halo 3 armor set with an Assault Rifle and Automag.

The tutorial could then focus on mechanics featured in every Halo game:

  • Shielding,
  • Grenades,
  • Grenade Swapping,
  • Melee,
  • Zoom,
  • Firing,
  • Weapon Swapping,
  • Vehicles,
  • and Secrets (with a single skull to be found in the level)

It might take more work than porting the other Halo Online levels to multiplayer, but it’d be very welcome since the giant game can be overwhelming to brand new users.

You guys need to fix multiplayer. I have over 640 hours playing this game so I have noticed over the past several months as multiplayer has only gotten worse and more frustrating. Tonight your server drops us during a great game and takes me back to the main menu where it freezes. I am then banned from matchmaking despite doing nothing wrong. When I can finally join a game, we have a team mate destroying friendly vehicles with team mates in them. After not being able to play (big team battle/heavies) because of the team mate destroying all of our vehicles, I get so fed up I have to quit and you ban me from playing for a while! You punish the wrong people, and yet d-bags like this can sabotage his own team and his behavior goes unpunished. The past several months have been filled with people like this destroying friendly vehicles and quitting early. You need to moderate your multiplayer, and start punishing those who only wreak havoc in it. And by the way, just make it so people cannot destroy friendly occupied vehicles…

In the “Extras” section the credits tab brings you to a dead page. Sucks seeings all of the credits removed from the end of all the games, and the purpose made credits tab dosent even work.

The Legacy Chest is using the wrong chest in game. It has the E.O.D chest with lights along with the flames, when its suppose to have the lights missing like how the original Bungie Chest was in the original game on the Xbox 360. Also the Kantana doesn’t appear in game when switching to Legacy ever since it became a back accessory.

I’ve lost track a bit of all my feedback over the months/years so I’m sorry if I’m repeating myself, these are some skins and a few sandbox items I want to see added to Halo 3:

  • ‘Woodland’ for EVERY UNSC weapon and vehicle.

  • ‘ONI’ weapon skins for all UNSC weapons and vehicles. Fully black except for ONI branding and brown leather for vehicle seats. Brand new appearance(not worn out) as a unique touch and also this would make sense since ONI gear isn’t something that’s used every day all the time by everyone. Blacked out one way glass for windshields.

  • ‘Banished’ and ‘Heretic’ skins for EVERY Covenant weapon and vehicle.

  • ‘Gojira’(Godzilla) skin for Spartan Laser, making it look like Godzilla.

  • ‘Big’ole Johnson’ Sgt Johnson themed Spartan Laser skin.

  • ‘Tiki Totem’ skin for Missile Pod(makes it look like it’s made of wood with decorative tribal painting on it.

  • ‘Origin’ gloss white CE style Magnum skin.

  • ‘Grifball’ sponsored by Fronk’s pro-sport style skins for Gravity Hammer, Energy Sword and Bomb for use in Grifball.

  • ‘Floodified’ Flood themed Energy Sword skin/model for use in Infection.

  • ‘Floodified’ visor that makes it look cracked open with those Infection Form tendral things sticking out and quivering. For use in Infection.

  • H3 Arbiter armour for Elites.

  • The rest of the Halo Online armour particularly its version of EOD and that Samurai armour.

  • Uniquely skinned armour pieces. This could simply be changing the area of primary/secondary colouring or doing something more unique like a ‘Rat King’ version of the Scout helmet that makes it look like a H3 rat head. Rat King Tail as a back accessory. These could maybe be unlocked via a community challenge like kill X number of rats perhaps.

  • NEW WEAPON: The gold Sentinel Beam from H2.

  • NEW WEAPONS: Silenced versions of the AR, BR, Sniper Rifle, Shotgun and Magnum. Make firing these and the Automag and Silenced SMG not appear on radar. Maybe place all newly introduced weapons around the campaign as easter eggs.

  • NEW WEAPON: ‘Scarab Gun’ make a unique model for this so using it in H2 campaign isn’t the only way. Maybe make it a Monitor that’s being held.

  • NEW WEAPON: Repurpose that nice looking yellow Plasma Rifle from Halo Online into a non-dualwieldable CE style Plasma Rifle.

  • NEW EQUIPMENT: Repurpose that cool looking Radar Jammer from Halo Online into a H3 Hologram equipment.

  • Implement all H3 gear and skins into H3ODST.

  • All objects from H3 and ODST campaigns added into H3 Forge.

  • Rocky, muddy, grassy, sandy, icy, urban etc terrain chunks added into H3 Forge.

  • All H3 flora added into H3 Forge.

  • Chunks of water added into H3 Forge.

  • H3 Forge object limit significantly increased.

  • H3 Forge quality of life improvements. Tools from H5. Duplicate, prefabs, magnets etc etc.

  • New big blank slate H3 Forge map

  • H3 skyboxes.

  • Custom H3 map thumbnails and avatars.

Can you please fix the issue with the announcer not shouting Perfection at the end of a Reach Slayer game when you achieve one already. It’s been over 2 years now. It surely can’t be that difficult to.

Why where the 20 year anniversary challenges removed? we keep getting the same challenges over and over but some of them are physically impossible.
This game has been neglected since the arrival of infinite, don’t let this halo die please.

I think the celebration was only ever meant to last for a couple of months or whatever it was, so that’s why they’re gone. What current challenges are you struggling to complete most weeks?

I love you guys so much, please put a flashlight in Halo 2: Anniversary’s multiplayer or reduce the contrast. I get wanting to stick to a specific art style and the game is very pretty, but I keep losing weapons in the shadows. There’s a hallway underneath the structure in Remnant that I can’t even see in because it’s a black void.

For more players to join the fun I looked up Proton support. Easier than before (first announcement), can only imagine to play Halo MCC on a Steam Deck:

(Posting this here also since it’s the feedback thread for the devs)

How playlists & ranking should be handled:

Recon Slayer, Recon Assault, Headhunter, Escalation, Invasion, Hardcore etc should be added to Halo 3 - actually, all possible gametypes into all titles - and be available at all times by being implemented into Social Matchmaking playlists and of course customs/CGB.

The weekly hopper should not be rotating default modes in and out but instead be ‘The Weekly Fan Features’ a playlist comprised of a selection of cream-of-the-crop fanmade maps and/or modes. Myself and others too I’m sure, would be happy to assist in the process of managing this if necessary.

As stated above Hardcore, Invasion etc etc should be implemented into Social Matchmaking and at the same time, reset everyone’s rank and the number of ranked playlists should be reduced to just one FFA ranked playlist for each title. These playlists should each be comprised of FFA Slayer, FFA Hardcore, FFA SWAT, FFA Snipers, FFA Oddball, FFA King of the Hill, FFA Headhunter and FFA Escalation.

Display each title rank on the player’s player card which should also be revamped with much deeper info/stats, showing the player’s custom Spartan or Elite that they’ve picked for their playercard and the ability to make custom avatars. Also, perhaps allow even greater customization of the player card with fonts, frames, colours and backgrounds - also do this for the main menus.

Implement Veto and Party Up.

Implement the ability to Quick Search for any and all Social playlists at once that your party size is compatible with.

Have Double EXP across the board every weekend and public holiday.

P.S. Recon SWAT weighting should be reduced and Swatnums weighting should be heavily reduced.

Adding to this, Halo 2: Anniversary should have Recon Slayer support, having both the Silenced SMG and Pistol.
I’m honestly surprised weekly playlists are as restricted considering their goal is to keep players wanting to be involved each week, yet only targets 4v4 audiences. Having free-for-all, big team, or even infection support for recon slayer wouldn’t be that hard. Even more broad map support would be great, I rarely have an opportunity to play the Halo Online maps, and they’re absent from Recon Slayer despite being a 4v4 size.

Unrelatedly, it’d be nice if smaller map vehicle palettes for Halo 3 gained the Chopper. The chopper is narrower and slower with a larger turning radius than the ghost, giving it a different dynamic on various maps.

Agreed.

Adding to what I said regarding The Weekly Fan Features, ideally this would include not just custom gametypes and/or Forge maps(provide a supporting blog each week highlighting the week’s featured content and how to download it from the creator’s fileshare) but if possible, also a way of introducing worthy mods and mod maps that are being implemented into the games for both PC and console. And each Weekly Fan Features playlist should attempt to feature content not just for Halo 3 - I say this as someone who primarily plays Halo 3 and hates 4 - as a way to encourage trying all the titles and to cater to everyone and to also make it so people providing content aren’t left out if they’re focusing on a title that isn’t Halo 3 so they too have the incentive of trying to get their content featured and added into the games officially.

Like I said I really am keen to help out anyway I can, with Forging, testing, selecting or even with the blog. I’ve played MCC for like 1300hrs lol and I’m probably gonna keep playing it for the rest of my life. I actually love the publishing team and have faith in them, I’m just suggesting that if needed, utilize the players like me to lighten the load.
