Just a wild theory but what if MC attains the Mantle of Responsibility while ONI has it head in the sand. Then the Flood returns and MC sets off to do what has to be done. ONI gets mad for all the wrong reasons and sends Locke on an misguided assassination mission. So in the end MC nukes the completely overran Flood infected colonies and Locke just throws a hissy fit, gives up, and walks away.
I really like this idea. I can get behind it full heartedly.
You’re going to need more than a nuke to stop the Flood overrunning a colony.
How b’out an Infinity

More than that. Try about a couple dozen Infinity-type ships, if not more, and one large orbital bombardment by all of them.

If he gets it fast enough it could work, but it’d have to be really quick. It’d also parallel the Ancient Humans glassed Forerunner worlds and inciting their wrath, the same as MC nuking that city and inciting the wrath of ONI.

True, but the Flood aren’t known to be slowpokes. Heck, the Elites had to do a lot of glassing just to contain one Flood ship in Africa.

Just thinking…maybe he found some sort of ancient ship forerunner or human, maybe even a ship that was on the ark when he went to find MB
This is a very nice idea. Draws up some very nice parallels between Chief and Forchentho as well. I can definitely see this happening.
And yes, the UNSC do have planet-busting nukes. They’re known as NOVA bombs, and use several small fission bombs to compress matter and create a much larger fusion detonation. In one of the books (can’t remember which) one destroyed a colony when detonated, whilst it was in orbit, no less.

There were never that many NOVA bombs, however. I would think such power would do more damage than what we saw in the trailer.
Covenant glassing is the only thing that could stop a Flood Infection.

I wasn’t talking about a NOVA being used on that specific planet, but yeah. I think Locke and ONI would be more questioning of the situation if it was the first and only incident, though. You don’t throw out a perfectly good blender immediately after it jams once. Sounds like MC’s made more than one slip up.
I still maintain my theory that the newly digitized Didact gained control over Infinity’s Forerunner components and was able to spread his “Didact virus” throughout the ship and gain full control. Chief caught on and tried to stop him, but Locke caught up to Chief and inadvertently prevented Chief from stopping the Didact from blasting the city with Infinity’s guns. Chief would be mad at Locke for getting in his way, and Locke would be mad at Chief for not telling anyone else what was happening.
Thing is though Lockes going to search for the Chief in order to bring him back, not assassinate him

That’s what he told Thel anyway. He’s ONI so I wouldn’t trust him to be honest. We are talking about trust, as he says.
Nuke would have done more damage, especially in a future setting. Something attacked. My guess is on the big bird, that or the big bird ends up being some kind of wisdom owl.
