I get why Forge as it’s come to be known won’t make it for launch. Honestly, while I love the concept and have always wanted to be the author of a nicely designed map or fun action sack mode, I just don’t have the talent. So it’s the other side of the coin for me- we won’t be able to try out other’s forged maps or experience those awesome custom games for months after launch.
But to remedy this and maybe soften the blow a little, I wonder if they considered implementing a watered- down version of forge while the true version sits in development. No big building blocks, no scripting, nothing fancy- just the ability to edit weapons, vehicles and small objects ala Halo 3. In my opinion, just doing that opens up enough variety to hold the majority of the community over for a number of months. Thoughts?
People will complain anyway. There’s a lot of good reasons of why co-op and forge won’t be at launch, but it seems nobody can understand what means to make a game under the problems of pademic, new engine, director’s change and more.
As much as this would be intresting and helpful, it would potentially delay the inclusion of forge even more. They would have to allocate time to creating a smaller version, and make sure that it functions, which will take time away from the more complete version.
But, I could be underestimating 343’s ability, and maybe this would be easy to make. I’m no game developer, so this is just my conjecture.
I think there should be a permanent forge lite. halo 5’s forge was fantastic for complex builds but not very intuitive for casual players

I’m thinking exactly like this but maybe a Lite version of Forge, intented for making small edits and teaching basics to the beginners could work until we get the real one. But if that means we have to wait more we don’t need it.

This. As bitter as I am about the state of things now, trying to push this out now would create a ton of extra work and testing.
Yeah i feel the same way.I like forge and all the unlimited possibilities that come with it I just never have the time or the patience to really make a map or take advantage of forge like I should so it doesn’t really affect me but it sucks because this game has been in development for awhile and for things to be missing at launch in 2021 shouldn’t happen.
They already do Flighting and when you launch on Steam you can launch it regular or with mods. I think something like opting into a Forge Beta or something would go a long way, with pretense that it might be buggy and it is indeed unfinished. I dont know how realistic this is though, as you dont want to potentially brick someone’s console/PC cause they opted into a test mode.
Extra modes wouldn’t help, it would create more work for the team who are probably already fighting thousands of bugs in Forge.

Interesting, it is a very real possibility there will be forge or co-op flights. Hadn’t thought of that.
Didn’t they mention that Forge testing will be a thing, like in a flighting sense?

Development wise I can imagine that this would be quite hard because it would mean they would have to suddenly make a “separate” forge to make this possible. It’s not like you can just trim the current program of all all other functions.
I can see how the Halo 5 forge looks intimidating but the things you mention here are actually quite simple if you just know to find them so be sure to look up some guide online and try it out.
For me the main thing I still want for release is the ability to be able to create custom game types. With those you can already give so many new flavours and replayability to maps and the basic game types. Halo 2 didn’t even have forged yet but we could still play days of just lockout with all the game variants we thought around it.

In the development video they released on Friday they specifically said they’ll be Flighting forge before it releases. It’s less of a possibility but probably more of a must do scenario.
With the scale of what forge is likely to be now I can only imagine that testing the scale of that mode is going to require a lot of work. Having the commit t jump in and get hands on is going to make all the difference.

It’s not really the same thing though. Yeah, some people will get to experience the basics of forge maybe a month before it actually goes live, but it’s gonna be launched within the Insider App, so it’s gonna exist in its own little bubble outside the actual game, and I feel like once the base game releases, a lot less people are gonna bother to participate in flights. I suppose I could be wrong through. I don’t really see how Forge Lite as I described in my opening post can really waste more time and resources- all they would have to do is cut out a WIP forge build with a lot less features than the anticipated final build, attach it to the base game, and do a little bit of bug testing.

The thing is, you’re assuming there’s a solid foundational version of forge already in existence. If forge is set to release 6 months after launch, which is just under a year from now, do you think there’s actually a version of forge out there that’s even worth putting out.
Even if it’s a very basic version of forge I don’t think it’s worth putting out. To me, it’s all or nothing. Putting out a half baked version of forge isn’t really ideal, it’s giving out the wrong impression to what the mode is about to new players.
I’d much rather wait for a more fleshed out version of forge than have a forge that’s barely worth using - which more people will be mad about anyway.
