Maybe stronger vehicles?

For the TU, I suggest maybe making vehicles a little more powerful. Not stronger as in power, but defense. It’s just not fun getting into a banshee then being destroyed by a sniper in 10 seconds. Thoughts?

The Title Update has so far addressed concerns of small close-quarters battles with Damnation and Beaver Creek being shown as well as Hang Em High being there as well.

We’ll have to see what’s at HaloFest for any big vehicular changes.

It’s something I am hopeful for. I am not wanting much just a tad stronger and I’d be happy.

I think it’s safe to say that vehicles are powerful enough at present. BTB Hemorrhage is a nightmare in its current state with the sniper rifle, plasma launcher or charged plasma pistol being the only means of eliminating them quickly and efficiently if one chooses to do so; which in my experience players often decide not to do.

You forgot the under utilized Concussion Rifles on opposing ridges and that one guy who always uses Armor Lock.

It’s not so much that the vehicles are overpowered (although they do dominate certain maps) as that there are simply too many of them. A BTB game on Hemorrhage features two Mongoose, two Warthogs, a Ghost, a Revenant, and a Wraith - PER TEAM. That’s 14 vehicles in total!

That’s the reason I’m hardly playing BTB anymore. It turned into Big Vehicle Battle.

If vehicles are going to be better protected, they MUST be less powerful offensively.

I don’t think that the Banshee is fair as it is, and to make it even harder to kill is definitely not the right thing to do. If you made it healthier, far less agile (some of the flips it can do are just ridiculous, and allow for some seriously BS kills) and marginally less powerful (the fuel rod is too strong, it doesn’t even need the plasma cannons).

The Warthog could do with being a little stronger, I agree.

The Ghost could be a little too awkward if it was any more healthy: it’s difficult to jump over and it outguns players. Not too much of a problem though, it’s not a massively powerful vehicle in the first place so it wouldn’t ever be too much of a problem.

The Revenant definitely does NOT need to be any more powerful. Stupid thing is basically a fighter jet on the ground, its agility easily makes up for any lack of health it doesn’t have anyway.

Wraith could do with being able to turn a little faster, fire a little faster and NOT be able to splatter people from simply rotating. I don’t think a lack of health is the problem with this vehicle.

The Scorpion is definitely not underpowered, but I think they’d be able to bring it back if maps had more cover.

I think a lot of vehicular maps would be better, and vehicles would be less of a problem, if they had more cover and better anti-vehicular weapons.

The Concussion Rifle is fine for Ghosts and Revenants trying to splatter you, along with Wraiths in medium/close range, but it’s useless against Banshees and of very limited use against Warthogs.

The Laser should be on more maps, and DEFINITELY Hemorrhage. I can’t say it enough, this is a GOOD thing for vehicular maps.

Let’s think back to Valhalla. With a Snipe at each base, neither team is ever completely helpless, and the DMR further strengthens this argument, because it excels at long range combat.

With the side mancannon and cover down that passage, no team is ever completely pinned down. Off to the other side, Shotgun cave is very close by, allowing you to push the hill effectively.

With a Laser on the hill, neither Banshee nor Warthog dominates the map.

With the hill itself, people can mancannon up to it to push for Laser, vehicles can survive without being hit across the map (same problem in reverse: the Scorpion’s ability to fire across Hemorrhage), Sniper can’t dominate with the extreme line of sight it would otherwise have and both Spartans and vehicles have an effective place on the map.

I think Hemorrhage, for one map, would be better with a Laser at each base and Rockets or a Plasma Launcher in the middle, along with the Concussion Rifles it already has. Some added, permanent cover in the middle would be a benefit as well, but too many people are obsessed with Hemorrhage’s nostalgia to make it a worthwhile, playable map.

“Too many Lasers!”

Definitely not. We’re talking four shots for your team against two Warthogs, one Revenant, two Ghosts and a Wraith. You might also want to save a shot for their Wraith or Revenant’s respawn, or the enemy Laser or Snipe. That’s a possible 4/5 vehicles off the bat and 4/8 reasonable targets.

Add in that the Laser could easily miss/not register and that Vehicles don’t take a long time to respawn and you have a decent balance there.

Plus, no matter how much we think about making vehicles stronger, think about it from the other side too. No one wants to be pinned down in their base by a Wraith and supporting vehicles while their own vehicles are blown up, only to make it to the base and realise you have… nothing reliable you can use to take any of them out.

Snipers and dmrs need to do less damage to vehicles.

I agree that Snipe should either not do any serious damage to vehicles (Halo 1-3) or just wreck the Banshee (It’s an air vehicle with ridiculous mobility that only the Snipe and Laser can reliably kill, while doing PLENTY of damage itself).

DMR definitely needs not to flip vehicles, I’ll say that much. A DMR should not be able to flip a Warthog.

If there were more Lasers/Rockets/Plasma Launchers on maps, the DMR could do less damage to vehicles, because they wouldn’t be such a rampaging menace. As it is, I reckon they could probably only be reduced in power by a minimal amount. 0.75x?
