Maybe It's Just Me

Does anyone else think the Master Chiefs shield is pretty weak even after fully upgrading it

Felt that way to me. I was playing on easy, and even with a fully upgraded shield it drained pretty fast, especially when facing multiple enemies.

You just need to get good if you think it’s weak on Easy difficulty, I think it was okay, it felt weak when not upgraded but I priorised my upgrades onto it and the game went fine, maybe on higher difficulties like Heroic or Legendary it can feel that way at times but nothing too unfair imho…

Out of curiosity did you ever play Halo CE the Shields in that game although they don’t recharge as fast seem stronger than what we have in Halo infinite I thought as things upgraded they were supposed to get better and not become weaker even the fully upgraded Shields in Halo infinite are weaker than the ones in Halo CE I believe it says something like the amount of damage the Shields can take increases by 15% with each upgrade to me it feels like with each upgrade the strength of the Shields only increases by 2%

Nah. Felt pretty tough once fully upgraded.

I guess stop getting shot so hard.

You can tank a brute hammer strike with fully upgraded shields.

Brutes almost always killed you in one melee strike before. I felt tanky.

Edit: Wow, when I first read your post OP, I completely missed the word ā€œshieldā€ and thought you were referring to chief being weak in general when fully upgraded.

The drop wall in conjunction with fully upgraded shields makes chief a powerhouse.
/edit

  1. Enter combat space
  2. Deploy 2 threat sensors to cover most of the space
  3. Deploy drop wall
  4. Destroy anything and everything in front of you
  5. Use thruster to escape once your position is too compromised to continue holding
  6. Grapple to new position
  7. Repeat

If you use every fully upgraded equipment during an encounter, Chief is the most powerful he’s ever been

It almost feels like entire weapon sandbox has a faster time to kill compared to previous halo games.

It has be confirmed that shooting the body is the same as shooting the head when it comes to shields, but a headshot is fatal whereas a body shot is not.

i am playing normal with lvl 1 shields and I have never noticed this. maybe you can try hide+shoot?

One thing I’m not sure anyone has mentioned, is that your shield upgrades aren’t really giving you an advantage against opponents as you progress
through the campaign. It more just helps keep you in parity with enemies you face.

Usually, the more shield upgrades you have on indicates your progressing further through the campaign. As you progress further through the campaign enemies will start carying bigger weapons and having tougher ranks/armor.

At the beginning of the campaign, most enemies have things like plasma pistols and Manglers. By the time you’re running full shields with other equipment upgrades, you’re facing disrupters, snipers, hydras, rockets, etc.

Of course I played H:CE, even on Legendary, you might be right about the shield being stronger in H:CE but not all games have to feel like CE to be good and I think that 343 has thought that over a lot before making that decision and in the end I don’t think it’s a bad decision because the gameplay is balanced for it, it’s not like H2 on Legendary or anything totally stupid like it…

Depends on the difficulty

I’m referring to on heroic. The supposedly ā€˜canon’ difficulty. The way Halo is meant to be played.

If you read the books chief as much much much stronger the version we have in the game is weak compared to the one in the books I think the chief should be able to survive a hit from a gravity hammer on legendary

I think the game should be balanced, I don’t care what the books say…

Apparently you play games for a challenge you don’t know how to play them just for fun Dishonored was an easy game but it was still fun I don’t play games to give me aneurysms

I play games to have fun, Halo is fun on normal too but after playing it on normal if I want to have an equal or better fun with it I have to play on Heroic and then Legendary, that’s how it has been designed and that’s why I like it…

Then why, in the first three Halos, can I play on easy any way I want without my shields getting quickly drained? For me, that’s the whole point of easy. Just messing around with the weapon sandbox without worrying about playing optimally. I shouldn’t have to ā€œget goodā€ if I’m playing on easy. That’s just bad game design IMO.

Campaign on Heroic is a great way to play the game. It brings a nice challenge that is typically easy to achieve.

Oh I’ve actually heard the easy the cannon difficulty because that’s the difficulty where Chief actually feels like bad -Yoink!- super soldier
