May I ask a serious question?

I really want to buy and play the new DLC tomorrow, but I don’t want to feel like I’ve been scammed again. I’m being serious.

I feel like that with every new DLC, I have been scammed. I never get to play the DLC in which I paid for for this game because the maps never come up, EVER.

My question is, if I get this next DLC, am I ever going to be able to play these new maps ever again after the first couple of weeks? I’m just getting a little tired of never being able to play the DLC in this game. The fact that I will most likely never be able to play these maps like what happens with the current DLC is making me want to pass this next one up this time.

I hope 343i decides to make a DLC required playlist after the Champions Bundle DLC

If you’re looking to ACTUALLY get to use the maps in general, without the dedicated DLC playlist, the answer is likely yes, you will feel scammed again (assuming that’s how you felt about others).

Don’t jump on me people, I’m a huge fan and I will buy every DLC on day 1 to support the game I enjoy playing and its future. I’m simply answering a question without bias.

With it being a Pit remake, I would assume a lot of people will buy it. I get Majestic games that come up a bunch.

When you give smaller playlists good maps, people actually buy them and you actually get to play them.

First of all saying you never ever play it is wrong. Rarely play it would be more accurate. Maybe it’s the playlists you’re playing in or you are teaming up with people that don’t have DLC. I get them in BTIS and IS. Not as much as I’d like to see them but they’re there. The problem is there isn’t enough players in the 20k people playing that have the DLC. Restricting playlists will drop that number even lower.

So far, Halo 4 is the best Halo game at getting DLC without restrictions and that’s a very sad thought. Hopefully it will get better but there really isn’t anything you can do other than party up with other players that Have DLC to increase your odds. Not buying the DLC will most certainly make 100% sure you never see them.

I think they’ll probably come up as much as Majestic, if not more. I think there’ll be people who buy it just for Pitfall.

I would like to see a real DLC playlist after Champions has run its course. I hardly ever see Castle or Crimson anymore.

They will probably make a dlc playlist like in halo reach.

Even if you don’t see the maps you can still wear the armor and use the weapon skins. plus the more people buy the dlc the more it will show up.

Forcing people to buy DLC is bad, but now Regicide is in Rumble Pit we should have a playlist for Majestc/Bullseye DLC

How is it bad? I am not saying make “ALL” the playlist DLC required just one like the one you mentioned “Majestic/Bullseye” and then another one for Castle/Crimson. I paid for the maps and I get to play them like once a or twice a week and thats not good either.

The problem is, not forcing DLC is also somewhat bad.

Frank O’Connor addressed the topic on an old Bungie Podcast I was listening to - I think it was for the Legendary Map Pack (Avalanche, Lockout, etc.) They were discussing how some playlists, like Weekly Double XP, and Frank essentially said (Not word for word)

“There comes a time when you have to look at the majority/minority split. If most of the community is purchasing these maps, but they aren’t seeing them routinely in Matchmaking, that’s a problem.”

And he has a point. If you’re buying these extras for the game, you should be able to play them as you wish. It’s sucky, yeah, but these players are paying premium for new maps. So, if the majority of players were to have Majestic, but on average only see one of those maps pop up 1/10 searches (With even less times being played), something needs to be done.

It’s a no win situation though. We can’t have one DLC playlist because each Map Pack is optimized for different player numbers. Majestic was 2-4, Pitfall/Vertigo are probably 4-6, Castle/Crimson were closer to 6-8. Splitting into two DLC playlists, which usually have the lowest population because players don’t want to have to go to a separate playlist for the maps, won’t work because the numbers will be far too low to sustain.

Yes, it sucks that not everyone will be able to play every playlist if they were to go the route of making some playlists DLC mandatory. Perhaps 343 should make one playlist Double Credit every weekend and have that as the one? Who knows, but it’s not like the DLC is extremely expensive. You want players to get it, you can’t keep allowing for it to be optional and not giving incentive for it. Why would a new player buy the DLC if they don’t see it ever?

You’re not looking from the viewpoint of, maybe the minority of the players actually have the maps.

I concur, who would not go for the Pit, lol. However, your right, smaller playlists equals good maps, such as Pit, most likely that map will pop up a lot.

> You’re not looking from the viewpoint of, maybe the minority of the players actually have the maps.

The Majority/Minority split that Frankie discussed/I used is People Who have the DLC Maps (Majority), People who don’t (Minority). He was saying, when the Majority (People who have the maps), start to outweigh the Minority (People who don’t have the maps), they need to focus on what is better for the majority of the Halo players at that time.

Like I said, it sucks. DLC is always a no-win situation when it comes to maps and playlists. But like I said, the people who have the DLC are paying premium, more money, for these maps that they intend to play more than a handful of times a month.

I never said it isn’t bad, but I think holding the multiplayer at ransom is worse, some people can’t afford to buy map packs, so they are extremely limited in what they can do, while people with the DLC can encounter the DLC in matchmaking, however I think now Regicide is in Rumble Pit we should get a 4v4 playlist for Majestic/Bullseye and then put BTB Skirmish in the BTIS Playlist and then we can have a 6v6 playlist for Crimson and Castle

> I never said it isn’t bad, but I think holding the multiplayer at ransom is worse, some people can’t afford to buy map packs,

Again, that sucks. I know some people can’t afford it. But you can’t, as a company, say “Because this select group of players can’t afford this, we can’t do DLC required playlists, even for just a weekend”, et. isn’t right.

Fact is, between Marketplace Sales and the Map Pass, Halo 4 DLC isn’t that expensive, and is on par with what Halo 3’s DLC was (I believe it might actually be cheaper by a few bucks, but I’m probably wrong there). Like I’ve said, it sucks that not everyone can or will get the maps. But you can’t let the people who did pay the extra for the maps not play them regularly.

> they are extremely limited in what they can do, while people with the DLC can encounter the DLC in matchmaking,

Again, it’s slim. If ONE person does not have DLC in the lobby, you can’t play the maps. How is that fair to the players who do have it?

> however I think now Regicide is in Rumble Pit we should get a 4v4 playlist for Majestic/Bullseye and then put BTB Skirmish in the BTIS Playlist and then we can have a 6v6 playlist for Crimson and Castle

Like I said, you CAN’T have two separate DLC only playlists. The last DLC map pack playlist averaged about ~350-400 players at PEAK times. Why the hell would we split that in half?

If you’re paying with the expectation of playing the maps frequently across most of matchmaking (and not just DLC-only playlists) then yes, you will be sorely disappointed. Each DLC fragments the population all the further, and it simply doesn’t have the critical mass to overcome this when finding matches.

IMHO: Not until maps are free will we really be happy with DLC maps in matchmaking.

If you can enjoy stances, armor, weapon skins and other non-map goodies then I suspect yes, you will get your monies worth. If I pay for the bundle, it will be for these items. Any map play will be gravy in my mind.

Same thoughts running through my head, OP.

Chances are, you’ll be scammed again. But hey! At least you get cheesy armor and weapon skins that to the intern on the dev team 10 minutes to do! So…yay!
