Matchmaking

Question, why is it difficult to get a fair and balanced game anymore? i mean no ones likes losing but if the scores are close 100/200 points you can accept it and move on. 7/10 games losing to teams when solo or 3 friends is becoming the norm. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? PLEASE keep it clean and respectful, thank you.

The games are as fair and balanced as they can be. The exception being any ranked playlist in MCC just because that algorithm is broken.

Question: Is a game where the score is close the only indicator of a fair and balanced game? If my team blows the other one out or vice versa, should I automatically assume that the game not being a fair and balanced match is the only reason it turned out that way and nothing else? Should we only be matched against our mirror images to guarantee fair and balanced matches?

Anyway, whether people are teamed up or not, there’s always going to be people who are better than you, either by a lot or a little. Every so often, you’ll end up matched against people who are better than you, either by a lot or a little. So every so often, you’ll either have to play a lot or a little better than you usually do to get the win. And it also helps if you have teammates who are quite decent too.

Much good food for thought here, but I want to take paragraph two a little further.

For some players I think you would have to replace the phrase “every so often” with “quite often” or even “almost always” when it comes to the frequency of mis-matches. I could have the wrong end of the math on this one, but my guess is that the closer a player is to the extremes of the skill continuum (bronze/silver or diamond/onyx) then the less likely they are to be able to get accurate matches most of the time. This is a function of bell curve distribution which ensures that those extremes of rank are very few in number (all four of the tiers I mentioned probably represent less than 20% of the player base). Add on top of that a game with a very wide skill gap and you can now have players who actually are not that far apart in rank, but who are still miles apart in ability. Add on top of that a low population. These factors all combine to make a perfect storm of matchmaking dysfunction, and the farther you are as a player from the average then the more numerous and dramatic will be the bad experiences.

So yes, it’s a part of the unwritten player contract that we accept a certain amount (“every so often”) of bad matches. But what is the amount of bad matches that are no longer acceptable? What is a player justified in doing in response to unacceptable matches? Does the responsibility reside exclusively with the players to “take it or leave,” or does the developer have some obligation to address the problem? If they do, will it be constructively with more restrictive searching (and the higher wait times that brings), or will it be punitively with harsher quit bans? Or would it be ultra-contructively by reducing the absurd skill gap this game has?

Thanks for your input, i dont blame the teams that play and match up in warzone/arena in a legit way. It’s when you get matches as a ramdom or friends and 8/10 games you get this it becomes frustrating. ive heard young kids crying as they were dominated and spawn killed in games over team chat. Players quiting will happen due to frustration and ive done it myself when spawned into triple capped games. i play alot for fun mostly, ive no answer to it but as player numbers are down and restrictions on fireteams are off
, warlords seems to not be about ect it would be now a case of hoping H6 addresses some of it.

I dont think fair enough to new players in the game for long

It’s as fair as can be though. The only other way would be to add a “Basic Training” playlist for the truly new players that will allow them to play against other Green players

if a champ, onyx and two bronze tags are on a team it should match off the higher ranked player. im tired of having to face a team with smurfs. bc the game wants a “fair balance” i get stuck with the bottom of the bucket players. i don’t even know why i post anymore, i call out the cheaters and my post gets removed. i called out a 343i afiliate for being boosted and it gets removed. no rank is safe in h5 we need a 1-50 with a 10± search preference and on slow nights 15.

we all know the problems but can we do anything??? suggest anything??? the player list is shrinking we know that too i always tell newbies to play campaign first just to get used to movement and some weapons.

Its almost like MS/343 are trying to kill the franchise (or at least the competitive/multiplayer aspect of it)

When you say 100-200 points as “close”, I assume you are talking about WZ games.

I think you (and many WZ players) fundamentally misunderstand what makes a WZ game “close”. There are 400 points worth of legendary and mythic bosses during a 20-minute game (200 point mythic and 2x 100 point legendaries). That means a game can swing 800 points total based on the millisecond timing of THREE trigger pulls during the whole 20-minute game. Moreover, the early bosses are especially important because they give your team REQ energy and make you more deadly for the remainder of the game. Likewise, mid base can be quite important (though not always essential) to a win.

A game could start as a pretty close match, but two small mistakes by one player on one team can cause you to lose both mid base and the first 6:00 legendary, then the game “snowballs” into a rout. But if those key moments had gone the other way, the final result could have been the opposite. Warzone can be a game of a few key moments that decide the game. Overall score difference isn’t a great indicator of “how close” the game was. A much better indicator is how contested those key moments were.

The best way to have fun playing WZ is to keep trying, even if you’re losing. Keep pushing for bosses, keep pushing for bases, but try and stay alive too, to cause distractions. Don’t quit out or simply hide in your base. You’d be amazed how many stunning come-from-behind wins I’ve pulled off. e.g. Losing 800-350 while triple capped on ARC, then we reverse trip-capped them to win. Or try winning 1000-999 on a clutch last-second base cap or multi-kill. If you quit out early in a game, you rob yourself of a chance for those comebacks. Even if you feel like you’re over-matched in a game, you may have awesome teammates who can carry you, as long as you keep trying. If you quit or hide in your base, even your really good teammates can’t do anything cause they’re fighting 1v12.

Also, pro tip - don’t try and kill or weaken bosses alone, unless you are an expert at stealing the kill shot. If you don’t know what to do and your base isn’t currently under attack, push a base the enemy holds. rinse and repeat.

I Have 66 days in WZ i know how it playes and key moments and objectives but it can still boil down to ability and matchmaking as well as connection quality which in turn brings me back to the higher quality players being matched against ramdom solo queuing players wh alot of the time fail to communicate or are able to match skill. Again i have nothing against teams no matter their sizebut where is the challenge?

obviously my posts have too much truth. its been dead in the matchmaking aspect. swat, snipers, slayer and dubs are full of boosters. this ranking system is being abused so bad.

Ive noticed

It’s gotten much worse since the holidays and the answer why is obvious - many people have simply moved on to other games.

This system ranked this very unbalanced this very bad play solo

Or maybe something called Christmas noobs.

Btw- OP- I hear a new MMR system is being implemented. Things might get better.

lets hope so. noobs or not they are not going stay if they get battered every time . just played a game where we triple capped and 4 of our team
quit out and we won and the other team were no pushovers

If you want to get a high rank in a sweaty playlist you gotta team up with other people. Most people who are serious about ranking up in any playlist usually team up when playing on their main, and play on an alt when they’re flying solo. That’s what iv’e noticed anyways.

Its not going to stop unbalanced matchmaking. WZ ARENA ect need to better balanced to get fairer games.
