Matchmaking

I think 343 needs to take a relook at the matchmaking system just earlier today i was matched against an onyx and a champion even though im unranked 4. My mmr cant be that good and this definitely needs fixing

I agree, I’ve played probably about 8 hours of Halo this week so far, mainly in slayer and I’ve had maybe 3 or 4 close games, the rest are blowouts, either my team dominates or the other team dominates. The matching is crazy, I think it was Tuesday, I had the same situation as you, Champion 75 and high level platinum, I’m Gold 4, the highest we had was an Onyx, the rest of us were golds. I get that on paper it might look even, but the skill gap between a gold and a Champion isn’t just that they will get more kills, their movement, their weapon choice, their shot, their knowledge of spawn locations, are all astronomically better than a gold level player, 90% of the time you are dead before you even know where they are coming from. I want to get better and improve and I know the only way to do that is to play people who are better than you but what chance have you got if you face a Champion who racks up 25+ kills and dies once? There is no learning to be had there really. That’s the most extreme example but the same keeps happening, where I’m facing a mid level diamond and a couple of high platinums. I did something last night that I have never done with any previous Halo games, I stopped playing, not because I had to to be able to get up for work in the morning, I stopped playing because I wasn’t having fun. Its a real shame, I am as competitive as they come, if faced with a level playing field and I lose, I can take it, but when the teams are that lop sided almost every game, it takes the fun and excitement out of it, you could literally perform the exact same 2 games in a row and win 50-29 on the first one and lose 50-29 on the second one, its entirely random whether you will win or not.

Read through the pinned MM feedback archive threads and you’ll see the system explained by Dr Menke.

Then if you have questions, you can use the current week’s to ask.
